After being somewhat disappointed with a nearby snowball stand's offering, we happened to drive by a "Just Chillin" as we headed back to the Causeway. Â I said we might as well try this place too since we are going to drive right by it. Â
My wife stayed in the car and told me to surprise her so I took a chance on a new flavor they just "invented" called honeydew melon. Â I've never had honeydew melon either so I was curious about how it would taste. Â After the obligatory Yelp photo was snapped, I took the inaugural bite and was pleasantly surprised. Â The color was visually appealing as it was almost neon yellow green sort of like a Mountain Dew. Â The ice was super smooth and definitely had that velvety texture I love. Â The syrup was very light and refreshing with almost no syrup after taste. Â Clearly, what we had here was the makings of a fine snowball.
Just Chillin had inside seating for those who want to enjoy a little climate controlled air conditioning. Â However, they also featured covered outdoor seating that featured a huge chalkboard and chalk for the kids to play with. Â And trust me, they were playing with it. Â In fact, one girl was actually licking the chalk like a snowball. Â (yuck).
They also offered at least 14 stuffed snowballs; and I'm kicking myself for not trying one while I was there. Â I seem to recall that they also serve shakes and malts, but I was so wound up over the honeydew melon, that everything else just faded into the distance as I headed home.
I wouldn't call this a traditional "New Orleans snoball", Â but all in all a good snoball. There's something different with the consistency of the ice compared to what I am used to.
Great service wit a smile. There's a few tables outside in shade to sit and enjoy your snoball. On the day that we visited, there's was a breeze that kept things cool.
we will visit again.
