Went here twice while we stayed on Kauai. Good cheap food - much more reasonable then anything you will have at a resort. Definitely try the brie cheese, garlic, and rasphberry jam appetizer - amazing!!

$0.25 Wings during happy hour cannot be beat! Everything in Hawaii is very expensive, and you will not find a better deal on Kauai. Do yourself a favor and order the wing sauce on the side to dip instead of getting them tossed. Trust me! When you see the texture of the wing breading, you will understand that I just saved you from soggy wing syndrome! I tried the $3 fish tacos as well, and although the flavors weren't that bad, they were very runny and messy. I had a hard time keeping them in the tortilla.

This place is not a gourmet restaurant, so don't expect it to be. It's a sports bar. The wait staff consists of cute girls, who go from being nice to a table with a family of four, to razzing you at the bar because you are drinking alone. It's not pretentious, so leave your attitude at the door. And be ready to flirt a little bit with the waitstaff if you are up for a challenge.

The loaded nachos are huge and worth the money by the way. But watch out for the jalapeños on them! They are fresh, not canned, with seeds-in, and they are hot!!! Extra sour cream may be needed! Definitely an extra beer!

Fine for the price but don't expect much except mediocre bar food. Service was fine, food was okay but nothing great, and price was decent. Nothing memorable. Portions are HUGE.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. Food and drink was REALLY BAD. Group of 4 ordered appetizers, beer & fish tacos. The service and location was good but the fish tacos were not fresh, tasted like chicken! and the tacos were in flour tortillas - yuk. And the beer was not cold. Good grief, the draft beer should be ice cold not warm. Will not return!

Great Happy hour! Everyday from 3-6pm! Which includes wonderful fish tacos, chicken wings, and much more! Great service too! We came here 3 times during our vacation in Kauai. Plus the view is great!

Went for happy hour our first night in. Good Mai tais, good selection on beers. Great fish tacos and sauce for wontons. Decent prices and good service. We will be back!

We hung out here for a mai tai before dinner at Roy's. It was... fine.

We crammed ourselves in at the end of the bar, had to fight a little to get a bartender's attention, but all that really did was make us not order appetizers.

If you're looking for a standard, happy-hour type place, this works.

There was nothing that really.stood out at this place. They have mostly burgers, sandwiches, & a ton of appetizers. Not much Hawaiian food if you don't count throwing teriyaki sauce on things. That have a whole lot of drink selections. They even have beer cocktails which was cool. I had a beer cocktails with longboard beer, passion fruit juice, & mint. Yummy! Our table settled on two appetizers, calamari, & Avocado & Ahi poke. They were both ok. If I had not been hungry I would have just had drinks there. I really enjoyed the view from the outside patio. The service was really great too. Very friendly & attentive. They also had awesome patio tunes playing the whole time.

Great 25 cent tasy wings we order them extra crispy & sauce on the side.Good hand pour on the cocktails. Great lobster tacos. Overall good bang for the buck for the area. It's bar food. Keep that in mind when you go. It's not fine dining by any means. Been here in November of 2011 and Feb/Mar 2013.

Now this is Hawai'i. No fancy schmancy prices or decor. Just a fun sports bar!

I was here for Sunday morning football, service was slow because they were busy and understaffed. In my opinion number one they really need to keep the bartender behind the bar and off the floor. Second they need 1 or two more waitresses to handle the crowd. Food presentation was great, good flavour just delivered cold. Bloody Mary was good but overpriced. After being here a few times at both locations you will notice the absence of a manager. I bet a lot of these issues would be solved with a manager working the floor. Two stars for cold food and slow service.

Good place to drink beer and watch the game. My husband and I came in the middle of the day after a morning at the pool at our hotel. Good times here!

This place is only getting 3 stars because we had a nice server and she was cool enough to make up for the terrible food.

In short, don't order the calamari - its a greasy mess. Don't bother with the grilled portobello burger because it's made with bad pesto sauce and oily mushrooms.

NY flank steak sandwich? Nope. It's fatty meat and tasteless sauce. My brother, who usually eats anything you put in front of him couldn't even finish his food.

The only thing worth mentioning were the lettuce wraps. The peanut chicken filling was the only edible thing in our meal.

Even though this place is literally 500ft from our front door we probably won't be coming back.

Again, I stress that out server is the only reason this place is getting more than 1 star.

This is where the locals go - I know because we saw the concierge at the hotel we were staying having a drink (or 5) here.

Service was good, once we got seated. I found it odd that the hostess had to check with the servers if it was OK to seat someone in HER section. Hmm. Maybe that's how it's done here, but the hostess should be well-informed of whose section is open, which sections are closed, and where to seat someone. I would think the wait staff wouldn't communicate in front of a customer "Oh, just put them in [so-and-so's] station, I'm tired".

Had we not been starving, and in need of drinks, I might have said something. Instead I just let it go, and was pleasantly surprised that the server who ended up serving us was actually really great, attentive. The food was really good, any burger can be made vegetarian, and many items on the menu are marked vegetarian and/or gluten-free.

Okay, second review here as I was in the area and tried the spot while watching the Pro Bowl. I am upping to another star for the rating as the service tremendously improved and the Cobb salad is better than 'average' here.

Spinach Dip - average, creamy but a bit strong on the white cheese that is mixed in... Seemed like it was mixed with sour cream almost. The spinach was fresh and strong, which is a good thing g when ordering "spinach" dip. Different than what I am accustom to, they a light cheddar and mozzarella mix on the top. The dish was extremely cheesy it just wasn't a great memorable one.

The Cobb salad - Hmmm mixed emotions about this one. The salad was HUGE! The lettuce "fresh" but I think it was fresh due to a recent bath in lots of water and didn't get a towel towel to dry off. Joe's Cobb is loaded with vegetables (more than your normal Cobb) one fruit (tomato), Blue cheese, and the blackened chicken. Let's see the veggies... This gigantic plate contained green leaf lettuce, red leaf, romaine, mushrooms, cucumbers, red cabbage, green cabbage, onions, avocado, black olives, and radishes. All ingredients were clean, crispy, and fresh.

Joe's ranch dressing is homemade which is a plus bit honestly it was just an ency-weency bit thin. The taste was spot on for a nice ranch and I would order it as a dipping sauce for hand cut fries or chicken tenders any day of the week. The salad was topped off (actually on the side) with real bacon crumbs and hard boiled eggs.

So, is why wasn't this a home run??? I am still pondering that thought! Maybe because the chicken was cubed and not in long strips? Maybe the black olives turned me off? Maybe the ranch dressing was too liquidy? Or maybe something you didn't even think off that was missing....... the croutons! The croutons are not the reason but you missed the fact that they were not listed?!

I believe that it is just the fact that I am spoiled with the best Cobb Salad in my home area... Truly the best. If your in Western Fairfax he'd to the Bungalow Billiards and get it.. ask for blackened chicken when you do. The spot is not a 5 star but the Cobb salad is indeed!

We were looking for something low key for breakfast, since we were staying at the pricey Sheraton. We walked there and found a very down-to-earth place, friendly service, and decent food. It is definitely more of a bar, and the place was pretty full already with foodball fans at 8am on a Sunday. I had the biscuit and homemade gravy. It wasn't the best - I think the gravy was made from a powder, and the biscuit were a bit dry, but after paying close to $20 at the surrounding hotels, I was happy.

Good deals on drinks. We had a few mimosas while we were there.

Went here today (01/10) for happy hour, which is from 4-6pm daily. They have a large variety of appetizers to choose from and that's great. My friend and I got fried calamari and steamed clams and they were both great, and I'd say that the prices were reasonable. We also got seared ahi sashimi which tasted good, but I'd say that it's not worth paying so much for. But I guess it's a bit pricey since fish prices are expensive.
The waitress was also nice, took her a while to check on us from time to time, but a bit understandable because she was busy.
Overall, had a good time.

Really bad. I went with a group of 6 and we sat in the middle of the restaurant right in front of the bar. We we're completely invisible to the servers. 20 minutes went by before we could order a beer and another 40 minutes before the beers made it the whole 6 feet from the bar to our table. In the mean time we ordered 4 appetizers, which took about 30 minutes to receive. The restaurant was about half full, so I wouldn't say they we're slammed.

Frankly, when I walk into a sports bar I want a cold beer right away and good, cheap, quick eats. If you can't pour me a beer in less than one hour, you should just call it quits. Shut the doors.

Food was tasty. I devoured the ribs.

Terrible! We walked into this so-called sports "bar" looking to continue building up on our solid night of intoxication. It took us a fair 20 minutes from being sat to even receive an acknowledgement that we were present. Apparently the staff was a bit confused about who was taking care of the party of six sitting right in the middle of their restaurant.

Finally someone came around and took our drink orders and we ordered food as well. Another 20 minutes passed and we received our food. Meanwhile, I could see our beers going flat sitting on the bar.

I just don't get it. We wanted to drink at a bar and get some food, and we pretty much couldn't accomplish either of these things, which renders this place completely not worth your time.

I like sports bars, so I enjoyed Kalapaki Joes.

After trying a few of the fancy places nearby, this place was refreshingly fun and casual. The drinks were strong, which again, was refreshing after the measured pours of the $15 drinks nearby. I had the fish tacos, which were tasty.

Our server was Malia, and it wasn't just her name that made her great. :)

Yeah......it's true. They probably should take the "epic service" off their sign. Oh well. They just didn't have enough staff this morning, so there was a wait to get seated and then lots more waiting.

Their loss.....I imagine on a football Sunday morning, when everyone starts drinking at 8am, you could sell a lot more alcohol if you had enough servers. The breakfast was ok, not worth a detour or anything, and the atmosphere was lively with fans of many teams having fun, and the view of the ocean was nice.

Not bad for a sports bar, not exactly an animal I'm familiar with but I appreciate the genre.

Save your money and tastebuds - this place is a complete dud. The 'seared ahi' tacos were supposedly a house fave/specialty; this dish was disgusting (~$10). The fish seemed steamed and not seared and the slaw inside the taco was gross. The burger was ALMOST ok (~$10) and the onion rings were ok (~$6; thick, crunchy, sweet, oily, and panko-ish). About the only good qualities of this place are the beach view, many TVs to catch sports, outdoor seating, and nice staff.

Other important info: inside Harbor Mall, across from Dukes and Kalapaki Beach, validated 2hr parking, limited parking, and upstairs.

Decent beer & wine specials during happy hour (-$2 on draft beer or house wines http://www.yelp.com/biz_…). We didn't partake in the $0.25 wings (2 drink minimum) or -$2 on appetizers.

Many happy hours in the area end at 5pm. Kalapaki Joe's goes until 6pm. It looked like a fun crowd enjoying the NFL game on Thursday night.

Went to watch some college football here on a Saturday late afternoon. Awesome atmosphere and plenty of TVs. We were lucky to be here for happy hour, daily 3-6pm. We had several appetizers. I had the Ahi poke & avocado (SO fresh and yummy). My husband had the wings, mozz sticks and edamame which he liked all. They have great beers on tap! Wish there was something like this on Oahu!

We were hungry and had just gotten off an 8 hour flight from Salt Lake to Poipu. Granted, I wasn't expecting anything mind blowing but I was very dissatisfied. The service was mediocre at best. Our waitress was far from attentive and did not watch our drinks closely. (something I think is important when being in a restaurant.) The restaurant was filled with a lot of drunk old men getting kicks from UFC fighting. There was also a group of drunk teenagers next to us wandering around the restaurant aimlessly. They were locals, and because of this the staff found it more funny than anything their behavior. It didn't bother me, I still ate my meal in peace but it was a bit odd to see people that drunk wandering around babbling.

We started with the nachos which I absolutely hated. I could have probably made them better myself. They tasted store bought with a bunch of shlep piled on top of them to distract from how disgusting they were. The chicken was a nightmare as well, and didn't taste fresh whatsoever. That was strike one for Kalapaki Joe's.

I ordered a chicken caesar salad, (after looking at a very poor choice of seafood) and a side of onion rings. I don't know exactly what my waitress was thinking but she brought a GIGANTIC plate of onion rings. At least 30. In reality it wouldn't bother me, but I guess I was amazed at what she considered a side to be. Needless to say it turned in to an appetizer for the table, and we did just fine. The onion rings were fairly decent, and I liked the cheese melted on top.

The chicken caesar salad was bland and missing any sort of flavor. The chicken tasted awful just as it had in the nachos and at this point Kalapaki Joe's had simply gone down the drain. There was nothing about that meal that would ever make me return or make me recommend it to anyone.

If you like MMA fighting in all its bloody glory on eight television screens while you eat a mediocre Ahi Salad and have a brew than this is the place for you. The smell of old beer spilt on the floor is a bit on the rank side for me, but the fellas find that really appealing. And if you are a hula gal looking for that type of man (or woman, wink wink), then you have found your hunting grounds. Lock and load!

K-Joe's was a good stop for dinner one night. We were tired of overwrought, expensive, restaurant food and figured that Joe's bar would be a good place to check out ,and we were right. Nothing dramatic or pretentious, just regular bar food.

We both ended up with the fresh fish of the day - Ono - with tropical fruit salsa. The side salad was bountiful, but I wish they had 1. dried the lettuce thoroughly, and 2. ripped up the pieces so they were bite size. It's kind of hard to eat a piece of lettuce as big as your head! The poppy seed dressing was delicious and went well with the rest of the meal, especially the fruit salsa.

If I lived in Kauai, this would be my choice for a happy hour or even a Sunday football game. The bar menu is huge, the cocktails and beers - OMG. They had about 50 beers on tap - no lie! And TV's for days and days!

Friendly service, good prices, make this a definite return spot for us.

See you next time!

The sign outside says "Epic Service". Not quite, my friends. We went on a Tuesday night, so it wasn't very busy, but the service was slow and often mixed up. Also, the food was nasty. Not just bad, but nasty. Calamari like rubber bands, steak was mostly gristle, cobb salad was 95% lettuce. Drink menu was okay, but they didn't have the faintest idea what some of our drink orders were (i.e. Peach Bellini and Rusty Nail). My family had been to the place before it was Kalapaki Joe's and said it had a nice ambiance, good food and little geckos playing on the walls. We were all extremely disappointed with the way it is now.

Looking for a place on Kauai that actually gets lively? Stop by early on a football Monday or fight night and grab a spot at the bar. The overworked but awesome bartenders Laura (or Ashley) will take care of you. I'm pretty sure Laura is psychic because she one time asked me what beer I wanted as she was pouring a drink and then set it in front of me as I answered.

If you get a table, hope Malia is your waitress; cu-tie-pie. But don't let her serve you too much tequila because you'll stay up all night. ;)

Everyone who works there is really friendly (Cici) so you're bound to enjoy your visit.

Happy hour was awesome. Drinks were awesome, our server (Naomi) remembered us from our previous visit. The pupu appetizers are awesome and hot wings for under .30 cents a wing you can't beat!!!! Flat screen TV's galore and sports to watch on almost any of the TV's.
Drinks are strong!!!!!!!
Out of all the foods we tasted we loved all of it but the Calamari, our server deducted it from our bill because we did not eat it. So since we were given the deduction, we paid for some extra drinks.
Stand up place. The $3.00 fish taco's at happy hour are really, really great!!!!

On my recent trip to Kauai for the Labor Day weekend for the Kauai Marathon festivities, we stumbled upon Kalapaki Joe's for lunch on Saturday with a few friends, whom were also running the marathon and half marathon. Kalapaki Joe's is a sports bar in the heart of Poipu, so you can't really miss it. Really nearby the Sheraton Kauai resort and the Grand Hyatt Resort and Spa, so it was the perfect choice to come here after going to the Grand Hyatt for the Kauai Marathon expo and packet pick up.

I didn't use Yelp this time around to find Kalapaki Joe's, which was a first. My marathoner friend actually recommended it since she saw it on the way in to meet our group at the Grand Hyatt. So, there we went. This place reminds me of Big City Diner, but not so much of a diner, as it is a sports bar and in Kauai. I dig the set up and enjoyed the ambiance of it all. The service was decent, since our server was kind of a dizz, but that's alright. A couple of friends just ordered drinks since they had a big breakfast, so they just hung out with the rest of us ordering lunch. The Saturday college football games were on as well, so we got entertained while waiting for our orders and talk with each other.

I actually ordered the mushroom and swiss burger, which came with a small pouch of seasoned fries. The burger itself was decidedly decent and smaller than I had hoped. I could have went to McDonald's and had a better experience and value than that of a restaurant atmosphere.Thankfully that the burger and fries combo was not as pricey as I thought it would be, but it was decidedly pricey anyway @$11.99. Pretty darn expensive, but I guess it's once a year deal and I was with friends. I wasn't impressed with the burger, but the fries was tasty. Thankfully, I didn't get any alcohol to increase my tab, but I was running the marathon the next morning, so I didn't want to be hungover either.

Disappointing, but adequate to say overall, but we all learn from this.

Support local.

Decent cocktails. Waited at the bar til our table was ready. Hungry by the time we were seated. Ordered spinach artichoke dip. Choke is right. Definitely heavy and disgusting. One of us ordered the rib eye and the other ordered a burger. Neither was impressive and on the level of a Denny's or a Coco's or worse.

Totally unimpressed and would not ever return. Subpar bar.

Stopped in for lunch. Thought I try the lobster burrito. It was served cold. Cheese wasnt' even melted. The lobster itself was funky smelling. My wife had the fish salad. Small piece of fish on a pile of onions and not much else. They didn't have a bartender working so the waitresses were struggling to keep up. They were pleasant but the place is just a mess. $60.00 for sub par food and a couple drinks.

Don't get lured in by the .25 wings. You have to buy to overpriced drinks.

GO TO KEOKIS. Right around the corner. Happy hour 3-5. Wings are 5 bucks for pile of tasty wings! Service and a traditional Kauai experience you will love!

Oh they have some nice TVs though. :)

Was very pleasantly surprised with this place. I thought it was another typical big restaurant with mass produced food but it was actually pretty tasty and big portions- including their beers. They have a huge menu with lots of selections. TVs everywhere on almost every sports popular sports game you can think of. Seating is indoors with open air, very pleasant on those nice breezy nights. Also appreciate that they close a little later at 10pm while most other places close at 8 or 9pm and it becomes slim pickins.

This is what my group ordered:
BBQ Ribs- huge plate and can be shared with two people
Burgers- very yummy and juicy
Salad- not quite freshly picked as said in the menu but also big portion and delicious sesame dressing
fish and chips- yum
quesadilla- very cheesy but pretty average
Kauai coconut pie- with such large entrees, best to share this with the whole group but is a must get

Went here on Christmas day for lunch w/ my sister in law, nephew, cousin and daughter. The food is really good here! And a very fun atmosphere...

The service is slow beyond belief, but the waitstaff were all really friendly.

I would not go there for the food, just went last night. Although we just tried 3 appetizers, and 3 drinks, they were 1 for 6. The only thing that was ok was the beer, but that was from the keg. Probably an ok place for beer and football, but after 3 bad appetizers we couldn't risk trying the dinner there. If you can't beat wings, chips, fries, etc that come from a bag please don't bother trying. Tasted like i was back at the frat house eating stale chips off the sofa.

Despite some not so good reviews we had to go here because I was in desperate need of a good beer selection which is highly lacking on this island. The first night we went the service was mediocre despite their claims that they have "epic service" but the girl was nice and as helpful as possible, I just dont think that management estimated how busy they would be on a Monday night. Yes the football games were over but it was still monday night and its a "sports bar." But despite that the food was VERY GOOD, delicious burger. They also have a good beer selection and decent prices.

We went back a few days later at lunch which was much slower so the service was better. The bartender was actually our server this time. Service was more attentive. I had the ahi salad this time which was HUGE! The ahi was amazing and the wontons it came with here yummy!

I would definitely go back and recommend this to my friends.
