if you're in Hattiesburg, and you want beer.. come to the keg and barrel! They have THE BEST BEER SELECTION IN HATTIESBURG BAR NONE!! in my personal opinion, The Thirsty Hippo has the best bar food selection in town, but The Keg is a close second and they definitely have a wider variety of foods to choose from on the menu. You must get the hangover burger when you come. It's delicious!!
I've been to alot of beer specialty bars, and I've often caught myself badgering the bartender for a drink, and that doesn't happen here.
Bingo nights are on Wednesday & there is a dart room in the back :)

Crooked Letter Mystery Romp - a nifty name for a nifty chocolate-hopped porter pulled from the drafts at the aptly named Keg & Barrel.  The "old house" vibe thats is going on there makes it even easier to relax if you weren't already excercising your elbows.  So as the most interesting man in the world says, "Stay thirsty my friends" and when in Hattiesburg, take that thirst to K&B and set a spell.

WTF is IPA.... dont worry just drink it!!!

Drink it all... Theres all the brands you know and love...But if you wanna be a little adventurous go for the in house brews.
    FOOD... EAT IT ALL
I had the OG burger with the Jalapeno and cheddar bun!!! Its what chain restaurants strive to be.
But lets get into the perfectly retarded marriage of beer and food... CHICKEN AND WAFFLES, maybe is due to the fact I never had it. THIS WAS AMAZING. The chicken was perfectly seasoned, cooked and crispy.

This little house... or house party. Its really a comfortable spot to sit back and relax with a group of friends and/or family.

Excellent.  My favorite place in Hattiesburg for so many reasons.  Bottom line, this is a beer bar, and they excel at that.  The recent law change in Mississippi has allowed K&B and other places in the state to serve some of the world's greatest beers that were previously verboten in the State due to an unfortunate combination of high abv and nervous moralists.

They have around 30 taps, and they've become quite adventurous in their offerings.  They provide a good sampling of the local Mississippi/Louisiana/Arkansas brewers, along with renowned favorites such as Rogue, Sierra Nevada, and an assortment of Belgian breweries.  K & B has jumped into the world of exotic craft beer offerings with both feet, as opposed to some of the more cautious offerings I find at places back home (Middle & East TN).  K & B proves that If you bring it, people will drink.

It's in an old Victorian style southern home, tucked along a main street that looks to have formerly been rather quaint and residential.  There's about as much seating outside as in, but since my time in Hburg is generally in high summer, I tend to enjoy exclusively the deliciously conditioned air indoors.  The lighting is a little bright and flat, taking away from what could be a cozy intimacy, but it's still a comfortable place to hang.

The menu is quite good, but from what I recall (I haven't eaten here recently), the food is a little hit or miss, especially for the price.  It's heavy on sandwiches and a small list of entrees, and notable for the all-day breakfast dishes, including chicken & waffles (!!).   The service is a little less than diligent, but at least they're knowledgeable, and never rude.  Like most places in the 'burg, the clientele is pretty eclectic, although skewed towards USM upperclassmen, grad students, and faculty.

An addition (I'm not sure how recent . . . ) is a . . . nanobrewery (I just made that word up...it's certainly smaller than any "microbrewery" I've ever seen) in the back room behind the bar.  They have what amounts to a largish, very nicely equipped homebrew setup for making ales served in-house.  I've tried two of the three currently available, and they're quite nice.  Definitely better than quite a few things I've tasted from larger, better-known brands (*ahem* *yazoo...abita...?*)

In sum, this is the place to hang out in Hattiesburg if you're a beer lover, and/or want to get a feel for the pulse of the town.  I'll certainly be back, probably this week, but definitely no later than next summer.

Best place in Hattiesburg to be able to enjoy a conversation in good company with a wide selection of drinks.

My boyfriend and I live about 30 miles away and this is the only place we'll go for a guaranteed great evening. We love the selection of beer plus the food is always great. They brew some of their own beers, which has been good. And as for food, my favorite is their Chicken and Waffles. Nom nom nommm....Great atmosphere and always a good time.

To expensive. Food is trash and service is trash.

They get extra credit for being pioneers. MS's beer laws are archaic yet they have dozens of drafts and more than 100 in bottles. Food is good as well.

Great find in Hattiesburg! This place would be a hit anywhere, but finding it in an old house, in a quiet area, with most of the parking on gravel, makes it really unique.

Chilly night, so the great looking patio (porch) wasn't an option, but the inside is very homey.  The beer selection is second to none.  Great menu with everything from salads to wasabi crusted tuna. We started with the chips & homemade salsa, which was spot-on, then I went with the buffalo chicken salad, based on server's recommendation. It was awesome, but I'll ask them to add red onions, next time. It was perfect with a good local brew!

Great setting, awesome food, good service ,world-class beer selection and very reasonable prices, will have me returning when I'm back in the burg!

As far as bars in MIssissippi go this is the place to go.  This is THE best beer bar in the state.  Not that I have been all over the state of Mississippi but I'd wager big money that this is it.  Tap selection was very nice and great as far as MS goes.  Food was also amazing.  I had the club.  A couple of people with me had the chicken and waffles which looked so good.  Service was top notch and owner John Neal does his best to make sure Mississippians have a place to drink good beer.

Each year they host the Outlaw Homebrew Contest which is a must!

I absolutely love this place and want to live closer to it. I will open it's twin where I live when I win the lottery. Small, unpretentious with great everything. I enjoyed the house beers, their other beer selections and all the food I've tried. I was able to talk to the waitress about the beers I had not seen before and she was knowledgeable and helpful. The only thing was it was a bit crowded and loud, but it was a Friday night and they have darts and other "hang out" items so this wasn't surprising. I just wouldn't go there for a romantic dinner.

Great food.  Great atmosphere.  Great beer selection especially now that they have some IPA on tap.  Love Love Love the waffle cut sweet potato fries.  Definitely the place to go in Hattiesburg if you consider yourself a beer guy/girl.

Keg & Barrel holds a  place in my heart, for sure. The outdoor atmosphere is absolutely wonderful. There is a huge wrap around wooden porch, and there is lots of outdoor seating all around the front of the property that is warm and woodsy.

I would give them 5 stars if their service was 100%, but once in a while the food comes too late, or the service isn't the best. The food is always excellent though.

They also have a fabulous selection of beer and custom blends as well!

It's a great place to enjoy a game of darts inside, and there is always events going on...from wine tastings to live shows.

It's a really great place to hang out with a group of friends and share good times.

I know this was a while ago, but I watched World Cup (that's for soccer, y'all) here a while ago and was very impressed with the setup. The bar had put tents with giant screen tvs outside, so everyone could watch the game! We got 7 beers for less than $20, which is quite amazing!

Best draught selection in town, great food, nice outdoor seating.  For me, Keg has always been a hometown favorite, and has only improved over the years.  The only place in town I'd call a pub, Keg has had a dramatic effect in civilizing the region's drinking culture.

Other than making your way through the beer list, make sure to try a Fried Green Tomato BLT with waffled sweet potato fries.  Or, just get the wings. I know, who really recommends the wings?  But they are uncommonly good; succulent, fried crispy, with a spicy sauce that is more seasoning than drenching wing goop like you'll get at BuffaloHooterWings.  And nothing goes better with hot wings than a good IPA.  Keg does in fact stock a number of excellent IPAs, as not all these brews run afoul the state's moronic beer laws.  They just added Tallgrass IPA on tap, and it's a new favorite.

I don't know when I'll ever be in Hattiesburg, MS again, but I would gladly make a trip to Keg & Barrel.

This is what every small college town should have: a pub in an old house, big porch, tons of outdoor seating, Christmas lights, 40 beers on draft, and a slightly drunk waitress.

I would venture to say every person there after 11pm is a student or professor at USM. I loved the selection of beers: lots of local MS stuff and great microbreweries from around the US. Food looked and smelled good, but I was only there to imbibe heavily.

Perfect place to spend a hot summer night (there are a lot of them!) in Hattiesburg.

Build inside an old house, this place is more of a pub than a bar.

The crowd is often recognizable in groups by what department they are in at USM. Friends congregate here on a regular basis.

The burgers are actually quite tasty and while it may surprise you, the plain ol' turkey sandwich with mayo dressing is good and not bad for you.

I love the selection of beers that they have on tap. Save a Rogue's Chocolate Stout for me!

Also take advantage of the late afternoon happy hour and free wifi. During the week there are free movie screenings as well.
