What is with the crappy reviews!? Â I am from Chicagoland and I am one who hates chain restaurants; therefore, I am quite picky and know good food. Â In Chicago there is the best culinary choices one could think of.
I also have lived in downstate Illinois for 3 years of my life, and I will say the restaurants are just awful in downstate Illinois, yuck! Â Food at restaurants in Western IL, Southern IL, and Central IL is just downright either gross or just edible at best. Â This place; however, tickled my fancy. Â The food was surprisingly good! Â I think I had a burger that was just awesome. Â I had low expectations, but this place worked for me. Â It was not just edible, it was pretty good! Â If I am ever in this area again I will be back!
They need to expand the menu or re-do it. Â It's been exactly the same for years. Â There are TONS of fried options, and not a lot else. Â There healthy section is pretty boring. Â It's a choice between totally unhealthy and totally no taste. Â
The cheese soup is good. Â
The service was fair. Â
HUGE crowd around the holidays, the lobby is too small, we had to stand next to tables while they were eating, which is pretty uncomfortable.
If I could give half stars, I'd add one. The cheese soup is off the charts good. Perhaps one of the best things in all of Quincy. I could almost rate the place a 5 on that alone. But they do have other food that, while fairly good, is highly priced for what you get. They've started putting weird stuff on the salad bar which even the waitress was unable to identify. I've yet to eat off the salad bar without egg shell in my salad. And it's so cramped in there that I hate trying to even reach the salad bar.
Review Source:Went on a Friday night with a group. Â Cheap drinks and okay food. I was on a quest for a good tenderloin sandwich so I gave it a shot here. Not bad but it wasn't quite what I remembered the tenderloins being like in this area (thin and dinner plate sized). The fries were a little tough and completely lacking in flavor.
Friendly enough service and decent atmosphere. Â Clean restroom and ample parking.
This is a solid choice in Quincy, pretty near the mall and about halfway between downtown and Interstate 172. Â The space has been improved over the years with brighter paint, better light, and Illinois' non-smoking laws (thank goodness the state got SOMETHING right). Â Kelly's claim to fame is a large salad bar with above-average choices of salads, greens, and toppings, including a few hot choices which rotate, some dessert items, and their beer cheese soup, and usually one other soup. Â Very good salad bar, and good servers - and when I went today, being Labor Day and the "end" of summer, decided to have a burger, and it was very good - beefy, well-seasoned, and reasonably priced - as is the rest of the menu. Â The place can get very busy, but usually is not too noisy. Â Good casual mid-priced place in Quincy. Â Recommended.
Review Source:I went to college in Quincy many moons ago and Kelly's was always one of my favorites! It is true that at night it is a full fledged bar but lunch and dinner are great!
My suggestion is the salad bar, not only do they have the BEST cheese soup you will ever experience they also have Cinnamon rolls on the buffet that are fresh and the size of your head!
* * * So I just went to Kelly's for the first time in a while and it was excellent. Everything was as good as I remembered plus I had forgotten that they have the best Chicken Nachos in town. But you just need to order the half order- 3 of us couldn't finish it!!
Kelly's used to be better.  The tables are placed so close together that you basically cannot get out to use the facilities unless you move several people.  The wait staff cannot get through without bumping chairs.  At night time, it becomes so crowded with bar patrons that  I am just not comfortable trying to eat at a table.  I don't normally recommend competition, but you are much better off a litlle further out Broadway at Lakeview
