Good family diner with helpful service. Â This place has 4 food and service, but the decor inside is not good. Â Some people might be turned off by the plain dark wood paneling that is all over the place.
Enough about the decor..the food.  The omelets and pancakes some of the best  that I had a long time.
A nice family oriented place. It is the type of place where everybody knows each other. They serve dutch food as well as American food. They have decent size portions but I love larger portions. All in all their food tastes good and their service staff is always friendly. If you love eating in quaint places then the Kumm Esse is the place for you.
Review Source:I will usually ALWAYS pick a hometown diner over any big name restaurant. I've wanted to try this place out for quite some time now because it's always packed and it looks inviting from the outside. Well. Glad we got that out of the way.
Pretty sure the parking lot is always full because the towns 80 year old crowd hangs out there and most the the customers are regulars.
The uniforms. Oh no, what were they thinking?! The whole family was completely weirded out by their nurse scrub uniforms. Not joking, legitimate nurse scrubs for uniforms.
Overheard our already terrible server announce to another server that they "just don't care anymore". Well that was obvious from your frumpy appearance and drab waitressing. Asked for a refill halfway through our meal, got it with our check and only after she asked 'did I get you your coke yet?' The empty glass in front of me would probably prove that you infact, have not.
Nothing special about the menu. Very regular items. I've never looked at a menu and thought 'I don't want to eat any of this. Is it rude to just leave?' I really felt like the menu is guided toward 80 year olds.
The guy sitting behind us with the most disgusting smokers cough on the planet, almost made me lose my dinner. Not the diners fault, but it didn't help our experience any.
We really appreciated that they made a lot of there own meats and whatnot. (fresh turkey/ham for sandwiches, etc) but both of our sandwiches were on regular hamburger buns that made the bottom of our sandwiches soggy. The ham on my sandwich was also extremely salty. Our 6 year old got a heaping pile of soggy, bland spaghetti. However, overall, we left with full, satisfied bellies. They just need to work on their food quality.
So, because we're not completely heartless and I couldn't just leave an empty table (even though I really wanted to) we ended up leaving a $1 tip. But believe me when I tell you that even that one dollar was undeserved. I wish I could have recorded my experience to show people how poor it actually was.
My in-laws live in Myerstown, and there are not a whole lot of dining options available in this town! Â We truly love coming to "the diner" as my kids call it. Â We have now enjoyed dinner, breakfast, and sweet treats here, and all were very delicious. Â Our service has always been friendly and prompt, and I love that we got to see my daughter's banana split being made right in front of her. Â We happened to come in once on the day that they had baked fresh peach pies - YUM!
