I remember this building when it was an old-timey hardware and variety store called Fenstermachers, with wood floors that creaked as you walked along. Now there is brewery equipment in the front that results in a decent selection of beers, though not edgy choices. Â In the fall, the pumpkin ale is nice, but light. Â The wine is from the local Vynecrest winery, and my pear-y Chardonnay was perfectly fine. Â
Nothing special on the food menu EXCEPT the fluffy soft giant pretzels, fresh baked with a delicious creamy mustard. It's worth going here for these along, and they are quite good with a beer. Â
The place is huge and nicely renovated with an open feel, plenty of brick, cute booths, a parking lot in the back, and different areas for hanging out. It is probably the nicest restaurant in a town where there are few upscale offerings (nothing against the town, but it is geared toward college students).
I LOVE THEIR DRINKS!
I am not a big drinker, a total lightweight and I don't like the taste of alcohol. Â While stating that, the Tavern has THE BEST mixed drinks I have ever had! Â I even go as far as to try and recreate them at home (with near success)! Â Their food is also pretty good, but I mostly enjoy the drinks :D
Oh and my husband enjoys their beers.
This restaurant holds a special place in heart, my (now husband) and I met at Shortys and had our first date at the Kuztown Tavern, although we graduated a few years ago we still like to visit. Â We planned an afternoon lunch date a few weeks back and sadly it will be the last time we ever visit the restaurant. Â We had terrible service from our waitress, I couldn't have been more disappointed with our food and service. Â Food was lackluster, we ordered a panini for $10 dollars and split it and it wasn't any special, the buffalo egg rolls were good but that is all that can be said. Â We received the wrong bill and the waitress acted like it was our fault, just tossed the new bill on the table. Â This establishment has gone down hill since we lived in town. Â I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone, go to Basin Street, they have much better food for a better price and good service!
