Food is HORRIBLE! Would never recommend, and will NEVER go back! The only thing my Husband and I got out of this experience was food poisoning!

I wish I could leave 0 stars! The worst place I have ever eaten, and we are in Big Bear quite a bit as my dad in law lives up there. I was on special diet and had to order a hamburger patty...that's what it was all right. Straight out of the freezer and on to the grill. No seasoning and barely cooked. The service was ok, but I just can't get past the food or how messy the place was...

I went into the restroom and didn't want to sit down! There was dust and dirt in the corners and it smelled like bleach...obviously nobody had bothered to clean the floor. It seems like all they did was dump a bunch of bleach in the toilet.

If you know what is good for you stay far, far away from La Mulita...really, really, really horrible food and just a dirty little place.

This place is so good! I ordered the green cheese enchiladas and OMG so yummy!!! If you are ever in Big Bear you have to eat here! The chips and salsa are also excellent! We liked the food so much that we ate there twice while we were in town!

Worst food I have had in Big Bear, not only was the service slow but the food was terrible. I remember a couple came in and sat next to us and asked us "what was good", I really had nothing good to say, but I did say "ask for something fresh" because my food was horrible. It is obvious this is a family run restaurant, I could see the mom doing her book keeping on the table next to us, the younger family members were our servers and only god knows who was in the kitchen. I thought about Chef Gordon Ramsay in the show Kitchen Nightmares, not sure if I want to see this kitchen and what's behind the stove, not good and not professional in my opinion.

This family-run restaurant is so friendly and welcoming that I wish I could give it a better score, but their food was just horrible :(.

We came in a group of 14 people and basically took up over half the restaurant.  The waitress there was super accommodating and even agreed to take 14 separate checks for us.  Throughout the meal she was constantly coming by to check if we wanted anything and re-filling water cups.

Unfortunately, that's where the good comments end :(.  We tried the carne asada fries(bland and almost no meat, soggy fries), tamales(TINY, and almost no filling), Chile Rellano and Cheese Enchilada(tasteless, with extremely salty rice), Hard-shelled Carnita Tacos(tasteless, and stale taco shells).

Basically, all our food was pretty bland, and pricey at that. Also, the chips that came as an appetizer were only free for the first round, and we had to pay $2.00 for more :(.

Oh La Mulita, How I want to like you, but you make it oh so hard :(.

Our family was up in Big bear for the weekend and we had breakfast before we headed down.
The food was excellent. We had a little bit of many things
Try their Menudo ( ask for the Pata if you like it)
Their Carne asada burrito was goooooood.
    their taquitos were also good.

Our kids are picky eaters and they enjoyed thier food.
The experience was also great the owners and staff were very hospitable and made us feel at home.

We will definietly go back when we are back to Big Bear.

As we pulled up, I expressed my concern about the "look of the place" to my husband.  His response was, "Might as well try a place that actually looks like it is in Mexico and hope for good Mexican food." I am so glad I gave in to this theory!  This place is good . . . REALLY good.  My children were happy with great quesadillas and tacos, my husband was thrilled with the "hotter salsa" that he requested (soooo good, with layers of flavor- not just heat for heat's sake, but well-crafted kick), and I absolutedly loved the Carne de Jugo, which had so much flavor and the perfect amount of kick as well.
As a native San Diegan, and a frequent visitor to many spots in Mexico, I would like to think that I know what I am talking about in the world of Mexican cuisine- and this is some of the best Mexican food I have ever had.
We were there on a quiet Tuesday.  Service was attentive and helpful with suggestions.  Loved the beer selection (anyone who serves Bohemia and Negro Modelo get a thumbs up from me).  I am surprised at the negative reviews- but they were written some time ago.  Perhaps the restaurant has improved, or the reviews were written by people who expected something different.  No question, if you are looking for an "El Torito Restaurant" American-Mexican food experience, this is not it.  If you want authentic, you will not be disappointed.

I have a cabin in Big Bear and am here about 1 week a month.  I have been in the area for years and just saw this place a few weeks ago.  Tonight was my 2nd visit and like the 1st time a few weeks ago...it was great.  I really don't know what the issues are in the other reviews.  Yes, it is family owned and very casual.  All the food is homemade.  The place is clean, low lighting, about 12 tables and they serve beer and margaritas.  I had the fish and shrimp tacos....both really good.  I ordered them slightly special and they made them perfectly.  Last time I was here we had breakfasts....all were great then too.  The service was fine... fast and nice.  Parking is right in the front for easy access.  I have gone to the other places in the Village....poor parking, long waits, smaller poortions and higher prices.  This place is so worth the drive to Big Bear City.  If you are heading up or down the 38 it is a great place to stop in.  They also make food togo and their menu is printed in the local phone book.  How convenient is that.  They hjave lots of specials that are not oin the menu listed on this board in the front, tonight was spicy shrimp soup and homemade tamales.  Give this place a try.  It really is good.

Dirty place, tasteless food, bad service, husband had frozen moth in water. Tacos in store bought cold shells.  Way too many signs out front - when you see them, keep on driving!

It was the absolute WORST dining experience I've ever had. Aren't there child labor laws?!! Oh, and the Mother was the worst part, I ordered their (Margarita,
(which was sweet and sour on the rocks with salt) after taking my first disgusting sip I asked my sister-in-law and husband to try it, making sure it wasn't just me. They both tried the foul "Margarita" and agreed there was no tequila in it. I politely asked our 12 yr. old waitress if I could maybe switch it for a corona instead. In the middle of our meal, the huge Mother comes up to our table to tell me she actually "Over poured the legal limit of tequila" in my Margarita (which is somehow my fault??) and that she was going to charge me anyway. I was completely shocked at how rude & desperate these people were. It was my Husband's birthday so we didn't make a big deal about it and just tried to enjoy out last night in Big Bear but I still just can't believe how horrible this restaurant is.

I would give negative stars if possible.

Came here to get some grub off of a recommendation from the guys at Mercer Auto.  I hit a boulder on my way up to Big Bear and needed to pick up my patched car before the snow came roaring through town.

We had an amazing Mexican lunch for being up in the mountains.  Puts the taco shops in my San Diego neighborhood to shame, the beans and rice were FANTASTIC, best rice I have had in a long time. I got the "Veggie Crown", basically a taco salad in a large tostada, very, very good.  Buddy got the menudo, which he polished off, husband got a Carne Asada burrito, also destroyed, girlfriends got a torta and chile relleno, which were all fantastic.  You can tell this is a family owned business, the main papa came out and asked if we wanted to try some HOT sauce, well of course!  He brought out this smokey habinero sauce that had a great flavor and the heat kept coming, in a good way.  The salsa was fresh, homemade, and you could taste the freshness in everything.  I will highly recommend this place when looking for Mexican in Big Bear.  Hands down, one of the best Mexican places I have eaten at in a long time, not overly greasy, as can be done...but not health food, either.  We got some salsa and hot sauce to go so we could relive the flavor when we cooked in our cabin.  Beers very nicely priced, too, washed it all down with some Modelo Negro and Tecate.

Service a bit slow...had to ask several times for extra salsa, but other than that, great.

really bad. first of all, they are doing too much. they have a nail salon next door, adjoining, and their kids are doing their homework at the other tables in the restaurant. we were the only customers in there. the chips were stale, the waitress came in from the nail salon to wait on us, the tamales were old, the beans were watered down, the rice was old, the ground beef was really dry. not going back.

This place sucks! How can all them stars come to this place; I was waited on by a 12 year old and treated very rudely. The food was terrible; This is got to be the worst resturant i've ever been to. How can a mexican family cooking everyday mexican food screw up mexican food. Anyways, go there if you wish, but don't say you weren't warned. You can get a better meal from Stater Bros. Seriously....

have to agree with some of the other yelps; it looked like this restaurant was in somebody living room. The staff was nice enough, but it seemed like not enough people come through the restaurant and the food is just reheated. The settings were pretty spartan, beans rice and main course, and the sides were not too great. Wife also made me promise never to bring her here again. I was disappointed especially compared to all the great places here in so cal.

I wish I could give them more stars because the food is pretty good, but there are a few reasons why I can't:

    1. The service is pretty slow. I understand that this is a family restaurant, but the owners' kids need better training. They are very forgetful, and tend to forget that they have tables until for some reason the waitress or waiter would go out to the dining area, and were met with our hungry stares, they would take one look at us, usually a hand would fly to their mouth to muffle an "OOPS" and would run back inside to the kitchen.

    2. Coffee was terrible. I'm not sure if it was really the coffee or lack of skills when it comes to washing dishes. But each time I ordered coffee, there was a thin film of grease floating at the top of it.

Look, my dad owns a restaurant too, and he made every single one of his daughters work there as hostesses or waitresses, he would not let anything slide. At some point I remember him telling me that he was making an example out of me to prove a point to his other employees!

The place is not bad, other than the bad coffee and slow service, when my boyfriend and I go we have enjoyed the food very much when we finally receive it. I just think the kids need better  training.

six reviews and lots of stars??? must have been reviewed by family members....We went there last night me, my daughter, her hubby, her 2 yo son, her 4yo daughter and 9 yo cousin........no cars in lot,, (bad sign)  door closed....(good A/C on)    open door,,,,swelteringly hot,,, go  in anyway,,, supposedly yelped highly.......unhappy looking young girl takes our order, brings previously described stale chips and great salsa.......flat sodas, water and ice cold beer........eventually brings food order......wrong food order...brought two orders of taquitos rice and beans.......only ordered one...........unhappily takes one back.......out comes my three tamales......pretty good, tender, authentic,,,,,,,out comes two quesadillas,,, only ordered one........son in law finally settled for the quesadilla instead of the carne asada burrito that he had ordered........i don't know if it was the language barrier.(we speak english,,, i think she did too).......no one ever checked to see if we wanted more cerveza or drinks.......other wise the four meals would have cost more than 50 bucks with another beer.........check finally comes, written on note book paper..........quesadilla with carne asada was like eating chopped up rubber between flour tortilla.......At least I kept my word.........I had told my son in law that I would take him somewhere memorable for dinner.......didn't say good,,,said memorable...........one of the few yelper let downs..........oh , i failed to say, the original waitress disappeared and we were served by another equally inept waitress.

Raw food anyone? Don't get me wrong, the food that is cooked, (except for the fajitas) is actually ok.Chips were stale, sanitation did not look as a top priority, as you will notice by the environment. Main problem was when my food arrived the chicken was raw (not cooked fully); the worst part was the waitress who first said I could NOT have Chicken and Steak Fajitas b/c she was a nurse- and could not mix both. (hmmm) would not admit the chicken was not fully cooked...

Either case, mistakes happen- just admit them and remake the food. I would think twice before going here, or least before digging in- as it may not be ready to eat.

This is a great little family restaurant in Big Bear City.  Definitely worth the drive from Big Bear Lake to avoid run of the mill Mexican food found in most restaurants. Looking at the menu gives little indication of how great their specials and house specialties are.  Each of us (party of 5) ordered a different special and the food was great.  Don't miss this if you want good Mexican food in the Big Bear area.

Not far from Big Bear we were delighted to find this delicious, warm, fun and friendly little joint on a very chilly Saturday night.  The service was casual but prompt, the food was flavorful, interesting and accommodated our  groups varying degrees of need for "heat".  The tamales are light, the spice shrimp soup delicious and marinated beef earthy.  We all wished we'd left room for dessert.  One more reason to head to Big Bear.

This very modest family-run restaurant might scare tourists away with its lo-fi decor, but the food is terrific.  This is not Mexican food from a can.  They had a long list of specials not on the menu, and everything my party had (5 different entrees) was very well received.  The cooks came out personally to check on us, and made the experience really fun.

If you're looking for Chili's, this aint it.  If you want real food made by real people, La Mulita is the place (and no wait on a Saturday night, something Hacienda can't claim!).

This is a great little Mexican restaurant- family owned and family run.  It is worth the very short drive from Big Bear Lake (less than 4 miles) to Big Bear City.  The place is small but has great authentic Mexican atmosphere.  The food is delicious.  We all had chicken fajitas (4 of us).  Know that the fajitas come with tomatoes and you should request guac, sour cream and cheese if you want it.  This place is MUCH BETTER than El Jacalito in the village.  You can't even compare.  Our fajitas were flavorful.  The margaritas were great and I had a Piña Colada which was delicious.  The food is fresh and you can tell a lot of care and pride goes into making it.  The kids had rice and beans and liked it.
