We just left Lawson pub and the food was good. We had the special fish which was like swordfish, the fish could have had a little bit more sauce but just a little. Overall the fish was perfectly cook. The soup was good, right balance of cheese bread and onions. The flavor was right on with the perfect about of salt.
Dessert for $3.95 was just a perfect for the amount of money, except DOnt advertise gelato and serve beyers ice cream.
The wine list is not amazing but for $22 you can't go wrong, we returned our first glass of wine it tasted like box wine.
We had a toddler with us and the hostess and staffed looked annoyed and not happy to have a toddler but hey our daughter is used to dining out so the staff should get over that.
Overall we would go back for the food but the staff could be friendlier and more engaging.
It just BLOWS my mind that this establishment is still going strong for over 35 +++ years. I used to go to this place when I still lived in Oceanside, the town I grew up in.
The best garlic bread, mozzarella steak sandwich on the freaking planet. Well it used to be served as tidbits, like 12 two bite mini open faced sandwich's. Always had great food, and I cannot believe that this place still rocks out really good food. Way to go Lawson Pub.
After dragging my parents to several of my favorite dining spots throughout the years, my mom told me she wanted to bring me to a place that they thought was "cool." Â So, along went my sisters, my parents, my bf and myself to check out my parents' "cool spot." Â While the crowd is mostly older adults and families with children, I had to agree, it was "cool." Â It was probably the most crowded restaurant I've been to in a while. Â We ordered off of the appetizer menus so that we could save room for deserts... except for my sister who couldn't resist ordering a "pigs ass" because she wanted to say the name. Â Everyone enjoyed their dinner and deserts!! I'm pretty sure I caught a few of the people at my table (who shall remain nameless) licking their desert plates. Â Of course, I would never do that-- I have manners ;-) and since I ordered the creme brulee spoons, no plate licking was necessary. Â I did take my finger and smear it around the plate to get every last bit of the sauce that was drizzled for decoration. Â Heavenlyyyyy.
Review Source:Great Place for any occasion for sure! The owner tries to keep the prices down as much as he can but he certainly does not substitute the quality of his food. Entertainment is always good too! Especially Terence and Company from Witches Brew. A great place to have in your neighborhood for sure!!!
Review Source:Was visiting from out of town and we went with family...it was okay...I would probably go again...however...
We started off with some appetizers...with the price they charge, my 3 yr old should be able to polish off the entire plate of calamari...okay, maybe not the whole cup...but all the rings (which there weren't many)...we are used to an appetizer that cost $13 be more than a cup of tentacles. Â
The short ribs were delicious. Â I had the lp burger...yum. Â My husband said the angry home fries were okay, but not the spice he was expecting. Â
Pretty decent kids menu....which they would have had a different pasta than orrecheta, as most kids do like either a spaghetti or a ziti and the orrecheta is a bit of a choking hazard for younger children. Â I usually check out the kids menus before agreeing to go somewhere, and Lawson's online menu doesn't match what they have. Â
Dessert was pretty good...we had banana pops, a few gelatos and creme brûlée.  The gelato was served on tiny cones and my daughter loved it! Â
The restaurant is pretty noisy and tables are tight together...bar was hopping, so there was no convenient place to wait to be seated. Â My daughters meal came out 10 minutes after everyone else's and there was no apology.
All in all, the food was enjoyable. Â A bit expensive for the portion sizes and the restroom lacks a changing table...yes yes I know, it's a pub...but if you are going to have a 7 item children's menu, there should be a changing table in the restroom.
Food was good. Ordered the tid bits.....6 slim slices. Tid bits are usually on 2 halves of bread, very skimpy. The Beach House in Rockville Centre has the same filet tid bits but you get more, try it! The desserts were good, not big portions but that's ok, it was just enough. Service was awesome. Would I go back, maybe, but NOT for tid bits!
Review Source:Good times!
Lawson Pub can get very crowded, so beware: we tried to go for my birthday back in January, and the wait was over an hour with no place to stand (the bar was packed). Â We ended up at Walk Street in Garden City that night, but we tried again this past week, early on a Friday (around 6:30) and had no problem getting a table. Â
Instead of bread, Lawson serves both flat and round hard breadsticks with hummus. Â The hummus was very good but the breadsticks were very dry; they would do better to serve something softer to accompany the hummus. Â We ordered onion rings as an appetizer, and though I prefer my onion rings thinner, they were nicely fried and tasty. Â I ordered the orrechiette with broccoli rabe and sausage; it was a little soggy, but it was decent. Â I can't recall what my friends got, but I remember everyone liked what they ordered. Â I tried one of my friend's french fries, and they were crisp and delicious. Â So dinner was pretty good, overall.
Then, dessert.
The desserts at Lawson Pub are all $3.95 each, and they are supposed to be smaller than your average dessert. Â My friends and I decided to order a bunch and split them; after all, they're small, right? Â
As it turns out, three of the desserts we ordered (the creme brûlée, the nutella, the tiramisu) all come three spoons per plate.  So those arrived, along with the bread pudding and brownie, and we had like, a ton of dessert.  King of embarrassing (soo many plates!), kind of hysterical.  Our waitress kept saying we were here heroes, which was funny, but the best of the best (and I should know) was the creme brûlée spoon, nutella spoon, and chocolate chip bread pudding.
Speaking of the waitress, service was good. Â I'm never in Oceanside, and I wouldn't make it a point to go back, but I had a pleasant experience eating at Lawson Pub, and I do recommend it highly.
I liked this place..bar in front...nice size restaurant. Â We went with a large group and also as a couple and both times it was very good. Â drinks were also very good! Â Saturday night it was packed!!!! Â so i suggest you make a reservation. Â I also went on a sunday and we got a table right away. Â we are definitatley going back!! Â great place for larger groups of people!
Review Source:Big fan of this place. Â It is not a "pub," but moderately priced casual restaurant with really good food. Â the only criticisms i hear of it don't make sense, as people are comparing it to a former version of it 20 years ago! Â we love the breadsticks and hummus starter, with the carafe of water, moderately priced decent wine list and dishes ranging from good burgers to excellent pastas, to great fish. Â in fact, the "garnish" that accompanies the fish dishes i've had here are among the best i have ever had. Â we have not had a disappointing dish yet.
Review Source:I stopped in here for a quick bite with my parents at the recommendation of a friend. Â The food was good pub fare; however, the meal took a hard left very quickly.
My father ordered a diet coke with his burger. It arrived in an 8 ounce highball glass. We figured it was a mistake made by the busboy who brought it, but our waitress confirmed that was the how they served soda there. She also then informed us that they charge for refills. I then proceeded to order a beer (Shock Top, if you were curious). After looking at the glass for a minute, my father commented that it looked small. We filled the 8 ounce highball glass with water and poured it into the beer glass. This led to the discovery that I was served an 8 ounce beer. THEY SERVED ME A $6 8 OUNCE BEER...just wanted to make that clear. In case you were wondering, we were charged $2.25 for the 5 ounces of soda that we also received.
Despite the pretty good food and the decent service, I will not be returning to Lawson Pub. It really is a shame since I live so close to it. I'll have to tell my friends not to go there either. I was very disappointed with my experience here. Avoid the Lawson Pub if possible.
We went for my dad's birthday, a few months ago. Â They were very accommodating for our large group, and even let me bring in cupcakes! The food was amazing. Â We started with the homemade potato chips, which were SO good. Â I got the lobster pasta dish, which was very rich and well seasoned, and my sister got the branzino. Â The rissotto was so delicious. Â But the thing that we all were envious of: my husband's short ribs. Â They were so tender and delicious. Â We went back a few weeks later on a double date with my friends, and we all ordered the short ribs! highly recommend! (Worth the wait for a table!)
Review Source:What a sleeper! If I didn't live very close by I might not know about this restaurant, but honestly, more people should head there. Delicious. My grouper (special) was cooked perfect, and the black beans and mango were great complements. I love the idea of the mini desserts, and the $20 wine menu selection is decent! Attentive and friendly service, and as long as the train station parking lot isn't too full, decent parking. Three of us, with a bottle of wine, totaled about $130, with a shared appetizer, 3 entrees, and 3 desserts. Without the wine we're talking @ $30 a piece, very fair considering the high quality.
Review Source:I was a HUGE fan of the old Lawson Pub....back in the day. So needless to say I was soooo excited to see it re-open and very much looked forward to trying it.
Well the new Lawson Pub is a 'horse of a different color.'
Not much "pub" type food on the menu.
Food was good, service was great. Portions are small.
I probably wont go back.
It used to be that the only place I really loved eating at in Oceanside was Sole'. That changed a few months ago somehow, just not as good as it used to. Then I found out about this place and my confidence in Oceanside dining was restored. I got the Pork Butt sandwich. Really awesome. It came with tater tots, gotta say wasn't blown away but they were tasty. I wanna try their fries next time. Will be back for sure. Awesome bartender by the way, really nice dude.
Review Source:Friend and I came here on Sunday afternoon and enjoyed it. The dining room was packed with a psychic event so we sat at the bar which is a long narrow foyer that you walk right into when you enter the pub. What really turned me off were the folks smoking in the vestible because it was cold and windy outside- And the staff did not take issue with it. Gross. But let's talk about the good stuff. Â Appetizers were half price! We ordered the trio of tacos, filet mignon sliders and baked clams. Loved the tacos which held lobster salad, shrimp cerviche and tuna tartare. Yummy! Â The sliders were really good too. Very moist and tasty. We didn't love the clams which had too much going on. For desert we had the trio of spoons which held creme bruelle, tiramisu and a nutella pudding for just 2.95! Perfect portion! Â
I will probably go back again. Â I understand that they have live music on the week-end so I look forward to it!
YUMMY!
We double dated at Lawson's with a fellow food-lover who recommended it. Â When I arrived, he had a bottle of white wine for himself. To my surprise, not because he was about to get smashed at dinner, but rather because it was $20 a bottle. Let me repeat, they have $20 bottles of wine! ALL THE TIME! That right there could get me coming back.
FIRST thing I noticed when they sat us, was that ALL the tables were wood. Ours was cloth covered. Â Knocked on it, not wood, it was actually a little folding table they had set up. It was rather quite squished.
NOTE TO OWNERS: Dinners do notice that they are sitting at a folding table. BUT I'd rather be sat at a folding table then to have not been able to indulge in the menu I was just sat for.
On to dinner. For appetizers, we ordered the Taco trio (which I didn't love any of them, but the rest of the table did), Calamari (obviously, anyone seeing the trend that we get it WHENEVER it's on the menu), and the LP clams. All was GREAT. Calamari was a little salty, but it was actually paired very well with the cilantro aioli. Dinners we had: Trofie (lobster in a pink sauce over pasta), Orecchiette (broccoli rabe and sausage over pasta), Branzino and a chicken flatbread special. Everything was AMAZING!
I can say this, my boyfriend is a big guy and the size of his chicken flatbread special didn't compare to ours. It almost looked more like a lunch portion. Good thing I only ate a quarter of my pasta!
Dessert was an awesome part too! For $3 each, we ordered an array of little taste like desserts.  Our favorites were the Crème Brulée Spoons and the Tiramisu.
I hope I hear of a pre-fix or that they participate in LI Restaurant week.
We will be back! Hopefully at a regular table too!
Loved it! The guacamole appetizer was fab! It's served with naan bread which was out of this world. Â FYI, if you're on a first date, the delicious guacamole is loaded with onions so be aware! Mussels were wonderful. I had to talk myself put of picking up the bowl and slurping it. Â They are served with salty, crispy, piping hot french fries that are amazing. Â I loved the $2.95 desserts, just enough to have a sweet without stuffing yourself. Â Lucky me, I live locally! I will be a regular diner at the Lawson
ub.
For starters we had the truffle oil potato chips and calamari.  The potato chips are out  of this world!  5 stars for the potato chips.  The calamari was good, but nothing special.  Which pretty much sums up the rest of the food.  I had the pigs ass, which is thinly sliced pork butt on garlic bread with muenster cheese.  The pork was tender and the garlic did not overwhelm the taste of everything else.  It came with a dipping sauce, which totally made the sandwich.  A solid sandwich, but not something to go out of the way for.  I went with three other people and everyone raved about the potato chips and said the rest of the meal was good.  This place is solid, making good food, but not something I would drive out of the way for, those chips however may be a different story.......
Review Source:We had to try this place after all of the positive feedback it has been receiving (#1 on LI's cheap and best eats list). The menu is very creative and mouth watering, unfortunately the food is not. The wings were good, the popcorn shrimp was decent, and the fried calamari was OK. All of the apps were decent, not great. I ordered the "pigs ass" and was disappointed. It was dry and lacked flavor. The burger was good, but the best part of the menu was the lobster creamed spinach. Overall, the name says it all... This place is nothing more than a pub.
Review Source:Saw this profiled in the NYT last month. Â My wife and I visited on a Friday around 4 in an effort to avoid any evening rush and walked right to a table with no waiting. Â The menu is diverse and had us really thinking hard about our orders. Â The wine list is about 20 deep and at $20/bottle I found three or four wines that WILL be tried at a later date...
We had the "pigs in a blanket" appetizer which were as expected and complimented with three sauces for dipping pleasure....excellent.
The filet mignon and french dip were excellent also. Â I enjoyed the smoked potatoes and the massive serving of creamed spinach with my filet and the plate went back clean!! Â
Desserts are a steal at $2.95 and it took a lot of self control to only have two but we will be back.
Service was attentive and well paced and dishes were cleared at just the right time. Â I would have given five stars but there is a TV in the dining room and while that might be OK for lunch I think it is a distraction for dinnertime. Â We also found the decor and furnishings to be welcoming but the room too open and bright.
Bottom line.....the Lawson Pub is now in our regular circuit for dinner out on Long Island.
As a resident of Oceanside for over 40 years I remember the old Lawson Pub well. The new Lawson Pub takes it to the next level. the food is outstanding and the wait staff is knowledgeable and efficient. From the bottles of wine that are priced no more than $20 to the $2.95 desserts (which are small but awesome) the Lawson Pub is a restaurant that has something for everyone. We were a party of five and two people in our party had the filet Mignon tidbits, a take on the original tidbits from the old Lawson Pub, they weren't disappointed in the way it has changed. I had the veal chop parmigiana, it was tremendous and it came with stuffed shells. OMG!! I can really eat and I had to take half of it home. Another member of our party had a fresh fish special and raved about it being a difficult fish to cook correctly, but the pub chefs nailed it.
This place is always crowded and they only take reservations of parties of 5 or better. If you are a walk in and a small party prepare for a wait and drinks at the bar!.
We will be going back again and again!
As folks who remember the "original" Lawson's Pub from back in the 90s -- and were fans -- expectations were relatively high. We were not disappointed.
There are three rooms -- Bar, and two dining rooms with quite tight tables -- and the food was wonderful. Don't expect to eat "healthfully," as this is pub fare. Â The wines were $20 a bottle which, to my mind, is very very affordable. The desserts at $2.95 were delicious and JUST the right size.
The wait staff was cordial and attentive. We've never had a dish there that wasn't first rate.
My wife and I have gone back regularly, and it's great to have a quality restaurant near us again! Bravo!
I brought my family there recently, and the food was incredible. Â Even the children's menu was excellent, and the chicken nuggets were home made, and included a selection of deserts for the kids. Â The Red Fish special was perfect, and my wife had the fresh pork sandwich and will without a doubt have it again. Â Highly recomend, but call for a reservation. Â Great imagination by the chef...
Review Source:My wife and I ate here recently. Â I guess it's only been open a couple of months or so, but the place was packed when we were there. Â Unfortunately the bar area is small, so it can be a little annoying while you are waiting for a table.
The menu is appealing and imaginative, and it seems like there is something for everyone. Â Although the service was a little slow we really enjoyed our food (filet mignon sliders, salmon, short ribs, and shrimp). Â We didn't get to have dessert, but seeing it float around on trays to other tables it looked pretty good. Â There were several things on the menu that I want to go back and try, and I'm sure we will.
There was also live music that started around 9 or so, which we thought was cool. Â Depending on where you sit, in either the first dining area or the second you can hear it pretty clearly.
All in all a pretty enjoyable dining experience.
