Went here a couple times with my 5 friends while on vacation. Â When we got back, all of us had credit card fraud committed on us, so someone is writing down numbers and selling them. Â We compared card records and the only place we all used the cards was at this restaurant, watch out.
Review Source:I was hesitant to try this place based on the many unfavorable reviews on Yelp, but my daughter wanted to go.
When we parked and were getting out of the car, I asked a guy and his family who were leaving how they liked it. Â He replied that "it was awesome but a little expensive."
Everything in Carolina/Kure Beach has gotten expensive, which is too bad. Â But it is what it is.
We started with the fried pickles. Â Not quite as good as the Sea Witch, but not bad. Â Their dipping sauce was delicious - A-
My wife had the Black Pearl, which is a Salmon wrap. Â It was pretty good - B
My son had the Wild Thing burger, which comes with a habanero mayonnaise. Â It was spicy, but not blazing hot. Â He liked the burger a lot.
My daughter had the Jolly Roger and loved it - A
I wanted to eat light, so I ordered a bowl of their "award winning chowder." Â I don't know what competition this chowder won awards at, but the judges must have been unconscious because I didn't like it at all. Â I think the chefs went overboard trying to find a signature flavor for their chowder. Â In my opinion, it didn't taste anything like chowder. Â The only thing that stood out was the herb (parsley, I think) and the undercooked potatoes. C-
Each meal came with french fries and they were overcoooked. Â They could also use some salt or seasoning. Â We must have had a pound of fries remaining when we had finished eating. Â C
The atmosphere is quite lively, especially with the band playing out on the Tiki Bar. - A
I read a review before we left for Pleasure Island that commented on the wait staff standing around and chatting/flirting with each other while the place was busy. Â Sure enough, I saw one dude hugging on a female waitress while 3 other girls stood around them. Â Our waiter was very polite but must have been overwhelmed because he was a rare sight.
Overall, not bad. Â Nothing great. Â Good burgers. Â "Unique" chowder that I didn't like - although I did eat it all. Â lol
I don't know where to begin with this place.
A friend and I visited on a Wednesday night, and they had a good bit of business going. Not packed, but most tables occupied with a couple of groups on the deck outside.
Upon being seated and after our drink order was taken, our server told us she couldn't submit our order for about 30 minutes because the kitchen was busy.
What? I've never even heard of such a thing in a restaurant. We ordered a couple of burgers anyway, and didn't receive the food until nearly 1 hour after ordering. The servers were providing complimentary chips and salsa to each table during their wait. The "seasoning" on these chips was just a bunch of paprika. As it turns out, they season nearly everything with just.. paprika. That put me off a bit.
The food arrived, and it was poor. I ordered the Margarita Burger done medium, it arrived well-done, dry, and flavorless. My onion rings were literally dripping grease, and mushy.
Visits from our server were infrequent. We eventually had to approach her at the bar to ask for our bill.
To sum up: Slow, infrequent service, refusal to submit orders until the "kitchen is ready", food is poor and poorly seasoned, basically nothing to commend about this restaurant.
On the plus side, if you just wanted a drink and to watch a game on TV, this place might be okay. Otherwise, awful.
