I will return to this bar in morro bay every single visit. My experience was great in the weirdest way. The bartender made us some great drinks from his own recipe, and they were so cheap! 4 dollars for a cute little cocktail. There is one pool table and shuffle board. The main reason I will come back is the owner of the bar though. There was a real creep who sat next to me at the bar and kept trying to whisper things to me about me and my friends, then stared at us for about 5 minutes, pretty much he was trying to get some lol. The lovely owner noticed without us even saying anything that he was staring and told that man he was creepy and needed to leave. That was awesome cause most owners only care about making an extra dollar, but he actually cared for his customers! Awesome!
Review Source:Stopped by on a Saturday night during a trip to Morro Bay. This bar is pretty chill. The decor is nice and has a cool atmosphere. There are a few tables, a pool table, a couple TVs. They were all out of Hennessy when I was there, so I had Courvoisier instead. Prices are dirt cheap! 3 drinks and 2 beers for under $25? Unreal.
Review Source:Great bar! We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon, and the place was attended by a super friendly bartender named Jim. This guy was super cool and very helpful giving us tips on what to do the rest of the night there in Morro Bay. All the people there were very friendly and the place was very low key. It was pretty early in the afternoon, but this was a nice quiet place to kick back, shoot pool and watch sports on the t.v.'s available. I would recommend this place to out of Townes and locals alike. Check it out if you find yourself there in Morro Bay.
Review Source:I was in last month before (1/18) Super Bowl and the owner Casey told me that they had just compiled the list of spirits that Legends had for sale. Â This has to be the largest inventory between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Â They included:
71 Tequilas
60 Vodkas
51 Liqueurs
27 Scotches
25 Rums
18 Bourbons
16 Irish Whiskeys (the Irish spell it with an "e")
15 Gins
So they can make a traditional Gin & Tonic with Gordons, or with 14 other choices.
Can you believe SEVENTY ONE TEQUILAS?
James the bartender told me that they rotate brands, so drink up your favorite or it might be replaced. Â But they have yet to replace their three analog TVs with flat screens.
We were staying in Morro for the weekend, down the street from this bar. It was within walking distance to our B&B, and the bar caddy corner had a live band playing. Normally, I'd be down for some ear shattering bumping and singing, but on this particular night, I wanted to be able to hear myself think, and hear my husband while we had a conversation over a drink or two. This bar was really awesome. Friendly, laid back atmosphere, great oldies rock/contemporary music mix playing, but NOT loud enough to be a nuisance. The guy behind the bar (which I'm assuming was the owner) was totally friendly and down to earth. Even had a chat about a tequila that he had behind the counter that was from a city that we used to live near. Would definitely go back here, if we were ever in Morro Bay again.
Review Source:Morro Bay is close to Paso Robles, so it makes for a great place to stay in the Summer when you are wine tasting in the heat. Â My husband and I ended up staying here 4 whole nights on our honeymoon, thanks to James, the bartender at Legends. Â We wandered in there one afternoon and after having a glass of wine and complaining about our room at another local hotel, James told us where to go and who to talk to. Â Knowing James got us a huge deal on the fanciest suite! Â Also, this is a great local bar, full of characters.
Review Source:Wow what can I say about this place that hasn't already been said!
This bar is so amazing, and the people here couldn't have been friendlier. The decor is genuine and seems like it was collected over generations. You won't miss the giant moose head. Is it real? Â I have no idea, but I would venture to say yes.
The bartender who was here was very friendly, and we had a nice conversation with him. Â [[Funny story - he is from Cambria which is where we were headed for the night. And we went to a bar he recommended there, and we ran into him there. Â He actually gave my bf a ride back to our hotel when we discovered there are no taxis in Cambria and we walked 2 miles from our hotel on Moonstone Beach lol whoops!!]]
Anyway back to this bar - I knew there was a special place I was saving for my 300th review and it was Legends. I am usually very wary of ordering anything other than beer at bars I'm not familiar with, because not everyone makes a good cocktail and not everywhere has "clean" soda. Â Well I guess I had nothing to worry about here when I got my Jack & Coke. It was more like a double. Their glasses are huge! Â And the drink was strong but perfect.
They've got a pool table and shuffleboard, as well as a jukebox and a popcorn machine. Oh not to mention one of the nicest restrooms I've ever seen in an old bar. It's not fancy, but it's HUGE and clean and has cool posters. Â I guess this place is on a level higher than a dive bar...it's just cool. I don't know how else to explain it.
They also allow dogs and we encountered a friendly little regular pug ^_^ Â We didn't get a chance to order pizza from the window but it does come highly recommended from the regulars in the bar. Â
Next time we are in the area we will be back! Â It was one of my favorite stops on our way up to Monterey.
My wife and I are not really bar regulars, but there isn't much to do in Morro Bay after 6. Â We went to Legends based on what other Yelpers have said. Â They weren't wrong. Â No kitsch, not a tourist trap and despite the name, not a sports bar either. Â Just a local joint with a fair share of visitors looking for something to do after dark. Â Free shuffleboard, a pool table and darts provide the entertainment, but we met some very interesting folks there for some great conversation. Â Small but well chosen selection of draft beers and a well stocked bar. Â Two thumbs up!
Review Source:Great place to unwind in Morro Bay! Â Pop in and grab a brew and order a delicious pizza pie from the attached Sabetta's.
No frills, down-to-earth, and fantastic decorations. Â Staring at the walls here is not a sign of boredom by any means. Â And can't forget about the giant moosehead wearing xmas lights above the bar!
I could easily see getting a little crazy and closing the place down at Legends...and there's some fantastic statues out front to make for some great end-of-the-night photo ops ;)
Legends is definitely my kind of bar. Â We recently went to Morro Bay and stayed for 3 nights. Â Every night we were there we ended up at Legends and had the best time. Â The people there are all so friendly and the fact that they allow dogs was a big plus. Â We didn't have our dog there, but it was a cool treat to see a couple really cute ones roaming around. Â The bartenders were great and the prices were very reasonable. Â They do have a window that you can order pizza thru and they just call your name when it's ready and there you go, pizza and beer. Â Doesn't get much better than that. Â Oh yeah, they also have a really cool, modern juke box and they do have a few TV's if you are there to watch sports.
Legends was definitely one of the highlights of our trip and I can't wait to visit Morro Bay again.
I really like this bar and I like that you can order a pizza through a little window attached to the pizza place next door. The environment is great and everyone is nice. One thing that did bother me is one of the ladys working there had her big hairy dog with here and she was drunk and not watching him. Which only bugged me because he begged for food when we had our pizza. If she wants her dog there fine, but watch him.
Review Source:This is what a bar should look like. They have this really cool moose head with lights on the antlers and cool pics of old Morro Bay on the walls. Its a quaint and friendly little bar that has a cozy feel to it.
I enjoyed my beers and listening to the regulars who were chatting and hanging out here. We will be returning to this joint on our next trip to Morro Bay.
Great dive bar. Friendly, warm, inexpensive. Good beer selection. Legends knows what it wants to be, and does it very well. The place was small but had about 15-20 locals hanging out, and several people talked to us to see what we were doing in Morro Bay and chatted a while. A couple of dogs wandered around the bar sniffing everyone socially. When it was time to close, the bartender just asked everyone to head across the street to a sister bar once we finished our last drinks. He didn't rush us out, just cleaned up around the bar while we finished up our game of pool. Which reminds me, the bathroom was immaculate- extremely rare for a bar. If I'm back in Morro Bay again soon, I will definitely come back.
Review Source:I scoped out Legends ahead of our visit to Morro Bay. When traveling with other people... especially people you don't know, it's nice to have a fall back place to hang out. Especially if one of those people in your crew doesn't seem to really like you. But that's another story for another day.
So, we ended up hitting Legends twice. It's clean, the service is fast and it wasn't so packed that we couldn't find a place to sit. The first night someone (another customer) offered my husband a shot as we walked through the door. Â Hubby quickly sized up the situation and decided that the guy offering it didn't look like the type to slip someone roofies/rapies. I guess sometimes people are just friendly. Huh.
Quick take: good bartenders, friendly customer base, lots of locals, big giant moose head and decent music. Â
Legends  definitely helped to contribute to two mornings of somewhat nasty hangovers on this trip. But hey... I'm still a fan.
Oh how we love this bar! It's not a complete visit to the Central Coast if we don't stop at Legends. We've been going there for years and it never disappoints. Stella on draft? Check. Â Friendly bartenders? Check. Â Tipsy owner buying us drinks? Check. Â Giant Moose Head peering at the patrons from the wall? CHECK!!
Other Legend's bar bonuses: There's a pizza joint (Sabetta's) next door with a window cut out at the end of the bar for ordering and food service (No, we don't have to leave the bar!!! Yahoo!!!). Jukebox, darts, billiards, bar-top video games, tabletop shuffle board. But you may not need any of those distractions....
....Because there's those wonderful & friendly patrons, it never ceases to be a fun crowd. Â Boozers of all ages & walks of life. Â One moment you're toasting whiskey with a grizzled & leatherfaced sailor just passing thru town and the next moment reciting Irish poetry with a local doctor. Â
This is one of our favorite bars....anywhere. Â Cheers to you Legends!
A nice bar with a good beer selection. Â Was here on a Thursday night and there were a decent number of people here. Â Lots of beer options which we reasonably priced, and the bartender made a really good white russian, Â If I am back in Morro Bay and want a beer, this is where I would go.
Review Source:I really enjoy spending time at this bar. Not only are the bartenders super friendly, but they get your drinks quickly and go out of their way to make sure you have what you need. When you drink is low, even if you're not sitting a the bar, they'll check in on you.
I love going there to play pool and shuffleboard while sipping on a tasty drink. Even when you're starting to get hungry, you have a convenient little window to the pizza place next door.... (In my opinion, they're over priced and not that fabulous, but nevertheless, it is still pretty okay.)
I also love that this bar draws a crowd of the most random people! This definitely is a great neighborhood bar.
Outstanding corner bar in town. NEVER had a bad drink or a bad time there. I've been going in since way back when it was Cirlcles(?) Great bartenders, with a mature feel inside, never any hassles.
I actually go in to unwind with a Bombay martini and a micro draft chasers. Yummmmmmmmm, ahhhhh.
I agree w/everything all my predecessors said, cool place, cooler bartenders, live band the weekend we were there (Labor Day) and a drink made for me by a bartender who said " Sorry sweetie, we ran out of Diet Coke so if your drink is too strong...I'll make you another." Yeah right dude...As a wise man once said "when monkeys fly out my butt:"
A nice blend of all ages of folks, most seemed like regulars but we felt right at home..great weekend :o)
Oh, Legends. I love you.
No trip to Morro Bay is complete without a few drinks and a couple rounds of cribbage at Legends Bar. Â James and Bill are the only bartenders I've met, but both pretty much rock. Â Large selection of spirits-- including Galliano! Â I have a compulsion to have a Harvey anywhere that has Galliano (it's such a rarity) and Legends makes them juuuuuuust right. Â
Don't want to just sit and drink? How about some shuffleboard? Or watch a few different games on the tube? Â Or maybe play some pool? Â Ask for the cribbage board if you like cards, or just for the deck for a friendly game of War. Â
Seriously, I love Legends. How can you not!?!?
We love this bar. Â Bill, the bartender, is mellow and very good at his job. Â There's a BIG range of spirits and he's not afraid to look up a drink or follow a recipe someone brings in. Â They have the local brew on tap, Firestone, and a nice range of four or five other beers as well. Â You can order food from the Italian restaurant next door through a little window, and you can watch sports, Â play games, listen to the excellent juke box or just soak up the funky ambiance. Â A trip to the Central Coast is not complete for us without ann evening at Legends.
Review Source:Going through little coastal towns between SF and LA, you don't expect to see a huge selection of spirits. But Legends comes through. This place used to be a sports bar and is in transition to a historical-themed bar. They have an impressive selection of scotches. Their beers choices hit the spot for whatever mood you are in, and the prices are fair. Bartenders are chill, not the wild flirty kind. They have a window to the pizza joint so hang out, shoot a round of pool, and kill your day at Legends. It's the kind of bar that makes you want to be a local.
Review Source:i more than heart this bar. Â i've been there three times. Â
twice in 2005 on a road trip with two of my friends up to san francisco. Â we stayed in morro bay because the hotels were cheaper than other middle towns. Â the first time in there, i checked out the juke box and it was more than joyous, all i needed to see was tom waits and i was sold. Â this was the first place i ever heard about voss water, the best water in the world aside from the water store water. Â the second was when we came back down from san francisco. Â we made it a point to stay in this town again because we had such a rad time. Â the locals are nice and we played pool and chatted it up. Â someone had a cat or dog in the bar that was drinking out of a shot glass. Â it was cute.
the third time was on a different road trip, in 2006. Â on the last leg of the capital road trip i went on with todd (drove through 6 states and their capitals in 8 days). Â we got pretty trashed and made fun of a lot of things. Â
the bathroom has a booth in it. Â like full on table, booth, chairs. Â they really do have awesome music on the jukebox. Â the drinks are not too expensive. Â there is a giant moose head in the bar. Â
if you are ever near morro bay, stop by and walk around, there are cute coffee shops, pizza places and knick knack stores as well, and if you stay the night, treat yourself to a trip to legends.
