Homey, welcoming place with a good bar and overall ambience. Liam is from Ireland and the food is fair value and prepared decently. the bar has now added a lot of craft beer taps and an extensive bottle list. the beer has kicked this place up a notch, in my opinion and I'll be back, although I've been here many times.
Review Source:We hadn't been to Liam's in awhile. Â The menu is quite limited, so we had fish sandwiches. My husband liked his, but I thought they were very greasy.
What seemed odd was where the hostes sat us. Â There was only one other party in the dining room. Â It was early on a Sunday, but they had a band . She sat us behind a pole, to the right of the stage. There were open tables at the window and infront of the stage and between the bar and the stage, so why start with the obstructed view?
The bar is lovely, but I don't think I will try to eat here again.
I was here recently with my GF, it was kind of the tale of two Pub's (sounds like a book).. Â Hmm, maybe a new career avenue? Ugh, sorry, off topic..
We arrived late afternoon on a Saturday, it was busy, but two stools were open at the bar and we cozied up.. Â Our bartender, Kelley, was super fast, super nice and that got us off to a great start. Â She was very efficient, friendly, we got menus quickly, which was a real plus because I almost ate my girlfriend's arm off on the way down.. Â I quickly put in an order of the clam chowder and I can say it was probably the BEST clam chowder I have EVER had.. Â Loaded with clams, creamy, seasoning was spot on, I could have taken a shower in this stuff... Â For my entree I ordered the scallop roll with onion rings.. Â AMAZING! Scallops were fresh, tender, juicy, perfect! The Onion rings were that perfect color and crispiness. Â (I am seriously contemplating driving down there in about an hour).. Â And, again, Kelley was fantastic, beers kept full, friendly, rock star for sure...
Now..... Â The reason this place does not get five stars.. Â The bartenders changed shifts.. Â And, I believe the second bartender is one of the family members of the owners (pictures are on the menu).. Â Couple of things really made me cold about this place when he took over, and one frankly creeped me out.. Â (1) he cleaned the beer taps with a rag he had in his back pocket, the rag was bumping up against the bar and other dirty areas, not to mention it was very close to his ass.. Â He also wiped the bar down once with that rag.. Â What do you think is going on in those taps now? (2) a major no-no in the bar business.. Â Just paying attention to your locals and not the rest of your customers, instant turn off, instant way to lose any new customer base. Â perhaps he doesn't care of they get any new business, hey, if business is that good and you do not care, more power to you. Â However, based on the time of year we were there, I have a feeling growing a customer base in the late winter early spring months would be smart business. Â He had friends at the bar and paid no attention to us what so ever. Â My beer remained empty, even after he glanced at it several times, for almost 20 minutes. Â My GF'S wine glass remained empty as well. Â I had water, no refill, yet his friends beers and shots kept flowing as soon as their empty hit the bar.
So, I get it, you are trying to show off for your friends a bit, be cool, make sure they think you are cool.. Â But last I checked you are a running a business and it should probably be run as so.. Â
If he is bartending, I will go next door for drinks and food.. Â If Kelley is bartending I would stay for hours.. Â Should tell you something...

I WANT to love Liams, but its been hit or miss the 15 or so times I've been in. Burgers are GREAT and always a hit, as are their fries, onion rings, chowder, desserts. Pistachio Basil Salmon is also amazing. Pizzas are ok but nothing special, and  the drinks are pretty overpriced. The biggest disappointment is the fish & chips- the batter looks amazing, but the fish inside is mushy and tasteless.
Based on the burgers alone, I'd give them 5 stars, but when the staff is a miss its a BIG miss. I have my favorite waiters, but there are a few who are incredibly rude all the time. Recently had an issue with the bill where the waitress tried to add an additional 20% to the tip, bringing it up to over 40% total. When we very politely pointed out that we had already included a 20+% tip, she got an attitude and walked away.
I will continue coming to Liams for the burgers and nightlife, but will probably not be bringing guests from out of town for dinner again.
Food so -so. Â Husband enjoyed beef stew but chicken wings just tasted off. Â I left wings on my plate and that's just not me. Would have ordered a hot drink for dessert but we sat there so long after we finished our meal that when the server finally came by we just wanted to leave.
Also, what happened to the days when the hostess did more than stand at the front door? Â I can see if they are busy but this young girl just stood there messing with her finger nails, singing to herself. Â She would look at us from time to time but made no move to notify the server that we appeared to need assistance. Â We could have asked but kinda wanted to see what would happen.
Liam's is still one of my favorite Irish pubs. Food is decent. Lobster roll is well worth it's price. I did have a favorite bartender who kept me coming back frequently until he opened his own business. I still frequent Liam's. To me, as with people who sit at a table , your waiter or waitress can made all the difference in how your experience with your meal goes. So when you sit at the bar the bartender can make all the difference in your experience as well. As with any restaurant Liam's sometimes lacks in experienced or personable help. They have live music which is awesome. Â Definitely one to add to your list to check out.
Review Source:During the power outage caused by Hurricane Sandy, I called half a dozen restaurants on Main Street in Falmouth and the only one open was Liam Maguire's Irish Pub. The waitress said that the pub is on the same electrical grid as the hospital, so they often have power when most of the area is knocked out.
Place was busy last night, but we got a table right away. Split potato skins and Penne in vodka sauce, all good and large portions. I also had a cup of clam chowder which was very good.
All washed down with pints of Guinness Stout.
A-OK place to grab dinner in a blackout.
Liam's is good for dependable, solid food, and lots of beer choices. It's been there forever! The service is pretty slow, but when the food eventually arrives it is pretty good. I've had the fish and chips, the boom boom burger, and the Irish salad. The clam chowder is excellent, though, and there is almost always live music in the evenings. It's a fine choice for a casual evening in Falmouth.
Review Source:Hmmm. Â What a weird place to write a review about. Â My fiance and I have been here a few times and we like it well enough, but it always feels like we settle on it, because there's no better option. Â
The atmosphere is nice and not crowded, though there's a pretty decent crowd whenever we go. Â It is loud and they, but I guess that's to be expected from a bar. Â The customers are mostly there for the food but they do have a small bar section. Â And there is always "Liam, Himself" (that's what it says on the calendar) playing onstage. Â If your a fan of sleepy live music while you eat then you'll enjoy Liam's playing. Â However, we always seem to get seated by the stage and it becomes too loud to talk. Â He's a decent musician and plays (mostly) Irish tunes. Â So that's....cute. Â
The food is ok. Â You'll get a very generous portion of their fish and chips and the coleslaw is good too. Â I recently got to try the lobster roll which was loaded like they promised and had lettuce and tomato, which is different from most lobster rolls I've had, but it was tasty. Â My fiance is vegetarian and they have a couple options (which is better than many places in Falmouth), but she's not a huge fan of the veggie burger and the pizza toppings were only so-so. Â Also, in regards to the pizza, the deep dish is made with Guinness in the dough, which isn't a huge taste difference, but you could taste "something different" as she put it. Â There is a room with a couple dart boards and we always want to play, but they've set up tables (which often have customers seated at them) underneath. Â So that's a no go.
The staff is friendly and attentive, though when they're not at the table they look bored and even at times grumpy by the drink stand. Â But hey, that could be understandable. Â
We like the place and it's certainly on the list, but I wish Liam would bring some other acts in for the entertainment and a few more veg-fiendly options would be nice too. Â I imagine you'll like it, if your looking for a simple pub/grill.
Went there on the Saturday after the 4th of July. Â The wait was long (1 and a half hours) which is understandable given the proximity to the holiday. Â The problem was that the Hostess/Manager was completely over matched and had no idea estimate the wait time and if I hadn't asked a number of times we would have waited much longer. Â
The appetizers were very good, I would highly recommend the beef stew. Â Using corned beef is an interesting twist. Â The meals were a different story. Â Two people ordered dinner salads, one a Caesar with salmon and the other a garden with chicken and no cheese. Â These were reversed and the waiter actually suggested that he could just switch them at the table and stated to reach to complete this with his hands...
The atmosphere is great and the guy playing music that night was very good, getting the crowd into it right away. Â The beer selection is what you would expect from a good Irish Pub.
Hopefully it was just the busy night that dragged things down...
[Visit today] This turned out to be the perfect spot on Falmouth's Main Street to escape the wife's shopping marathon and watch the Euro soccer matches; both playing at the same time. The bartender was very attentive; he even steered me away from the 9% Kentucky Bourbon Ale (I'm the designated driver...). I tried the Green Monsta IPA instead. A number of regional microbrews were offered on tap. A myriad of special cocktails are listed all around as well as a good scotch selection (Johnnie Walker Blue, Balvenie, etc.).
There's a line from William Butler Yeat's "He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven" on the wall above the front window: "I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams". Love Yeats. This is the kind of place you'd half expect James Joyce to pull up a stool next to you and open his iPad; rough around the edges yet mindful of poetry and tradition. If you're looking for time to kill in Falmouth, you can't do any better than here.
I like this place. Really I do. that being said..It has a great bar and I love the Irish music. Downside is the food. To be honest it tastes like reheated fast food or frozen food.Waitresses aren't too friendly. The bartender is nice and attentive though. I recommend eating at the Quarterdeck then going to Liam's for a drink and some music.
Review Source:The lunch we had was mere 3 star, not bad, not good either. just an average.
But the chowder along with a stuffed clam was horrible. stuffing all dried out and as hard as a rock, perhaps, they were made days ago. And the plain chowder was weird and only 4-5 spoonful rather in a small cup, and I personally think canned chowder tastes better than that.
Then, Betty Sue, the waitress.
I dressed like a casual khaki with proper plaid shirt for our business visit in town, she called me, "you cute asian thing..." several times, I didn't respond to that and sent the signal clearly that I was offended, but she carried on treating me like FOB, or as if I was a toy pet. Then looked away to talk to my partner quite a while. She totally interrupted our lunch time. The town was covered with the foreign or reginal american tourists already getting close to the summer. But she said she "hated" tourists coming in.
My experience was hence dropped to 1 out of 5. Crude Racisist server killed our mood. Avoid her at any cost.
Found this place after Artie's Cafe didn't meet with Mother-in-laws approval. Â Warm pub atmosphere, typical Irish pub regalia, and live music which starts at 3pm. Â It's larger so it doesn't quite have that true pub feel, but comes close.
The food itself was very good and enjoyed by all members of our party. Â We had fish and chips, bangers and mash, and salmon sandwich. Â Portions were large and priced well (except for the lobster roll - that was a staggering $25.95 : word to the owner - that's whole lobster entree price - not roll pricing). Â They had a very good selection of beers on tap and by the bottle. Â I LOVE that they have Allagash white on tap!
Our service was sweet but the meals did seem to take a long time to produce - the only reason I didn't give a higher mark. Â Good establishment - give it a try.
This place was surprisingly good. It was 4p and we were starving. Places were closing and we settled on Liam Magurie's.
While my friends got Mac and Cheese and Cape Cod fish sandwich, I got Fish and Chip entree. All of us truly enjoyed our dishes. Mac and Cheese had tomotoes in it. It was quite delicious. Fish and Chip was very good. The batter was very light. I ordered pumpkin beer. It was a nice one. What made it different was the sugar and cinnamon around the rim. It tasted like I was eating pumpkin pie.
We were happy campers.
If you haven't been to Liam's in Falmouth, you don't know what your missing!! Great food, service, drinks & atmosphere! The lobster roll is well worth the $25.. it was lightly tossed with a bit of mayo so it was just perfect. Nachos are excellent as is their quesidilla. I recently had a chicken sandwich that wasn't so good, but all in all the foods been great. Heather the bartender is the BEST!!! Â This place ROCKS on the weekend, all ages, just getting together and having a good time. Lots of sing alongs and sometimes some surprise visitors take the stage, it's nice to see a place open their arms to someone visiting from Ireland. Danny Quinn plays here and if you haven't heard him, you'd better get here soon!!
Keep up the great work!!!
My friend and I were in Falmouth for the weekend. I had been down there plenty of times before so, though still technically a "tourist", I was relatively familiar with the downtown area. We were starving after a baseball game and decided to put our name in at a Mexican place that looked like it had delicious margaritas. Hour and a half wait. Ouch! So, we decided to walk with our buzzer (makes a great accessory, by the way) down the street and see what else there was to offer.
Cue Liam Maguire's. As we walked up, we were ever so slightly skeptical. I LOVE the Irish pubs in Boston and have been to my fair share of pubs that claim "Irishness" but are only so in name. We walked in and the hostess said there was no wait. Hunger got the best of us and we told her we would just go drop off the buzzer at the other place and come back.
The walk back and forth to the other restaurant probably took between 5 and 10 minutes, and by the time we got back to Liam Maguire's, a small line had formed. We got right in the end of it, but the hostess from earlier came outside to get us and said she had saved the table for us from earlier...amazing! I was seriously impressed by that small gesture.
When we were seated, our waiter came to grab us drinks and he was ACTUALLY IRISH (a plus because an accent will always make me melt). I got a black and blue and my friend got a blueberry beer. The blueberries were HUGE and delicious, and the beer was never empty before refills were ordered.
The food was unbelievably delicious. I got the Shepherd's Pie and my friend got a burger with the whiskey sauce. We were both happy with our meals and sufficiently stuffed.
Probably one of the highlights of the night was the Irish band that started playing within about 10 minutes of our entering. They were very good and had the whole bar singing along and clapping.
I have to say, I have spent time in Ireland and had decided awhile back that it is my favorite country I've ever been to. This pub made me miss Ireland in the best of ways...it really seemed to bring me back there. 5 stars, all the way!
If you are looking for an awesome, rowdy time with good drinks, company, and food, I would recommend Liam Maguire's. Prices are reasonable, portions are insanely huge, and the drinks are great.
At night, Liam Maguire and friends play Irish music for hours - some covers like Brown Eyed Girl, Sweet Caroline, Fulsom Prison Blues, etc, and some traditional Irish songs. The crowd usually gets into it and sings along, crowd participation is encouraged, and you can make requests. This is definitely what made our nights out here for me!
We had onion rings and nachos to accompany our drinks - wow the portions were twice the size I would have imagined. They were excellent!
The bar attracts a mixed crowd, from college-age students to older folks, all looking for a good time.
I had the Frozen Irish Dream drink - very chocolatey and sweet, I'd definitely recommend it, it tasted like a milkshake with a kick to it. Guinness is on tap and they know how to pour it right here! This place is clearly a local favorite and it's easy to see why.
As a local who comes here from time to time, I was VERY dissapointed with the Lobster roll. Billed as the Cape's freshest and biggest @ $26 it was pathetic! I mentioned my displeasure to the waiter who told the manager and the response was that they haven't had any complaints. Must be all tourists they serve. I should have known better. For a $26 Lobster roll go to the Chart Room or The Raw Bar in Poppenesset, you'll get your moneys worth and it'll be FRESH too!
When at Liam's I'll stick to the burgers and beer.
If you're looking for a casual good time, try Liam's. Â This is a no nonsense local pub with good grub, good service, and great entertainment! Â Personally, I stop in for the stuffie and chowder with a pint. Â Then I sit back, take in the game on the TV while listening to local chatter, and wait for the band to start.
I've been there for lunch with friends and had great service to go along with really good food at a reasonable price. Â Salads are more than enough to fill you. Â Sandwiches are tasty and desserts are worth stopping in for.
Keep up the great work, Liam! Â You're a regular stop that consistently warms the soul.
Nice Irish pub. Â I had wings and potato skins (wings were ok - not spicy enough for me but thankfully the skins were very tasty) Â My sister has the lobster roll which was huge, tasty and loaded with real lobster chunks. Â She could only eat half. Â The kids had chicken fingers which they both liked. Â Good place to take kids as the kids meals are cheap and include a drink and dessert for under $6.
No band playing while we were there (mid-day) but I suspect its gets quite lively when they do have one onstage.
Would go back and try again.
I was diggin the vibe at Liam's. Went on a Saturday night, place was packed at 10:30pm. Was with a group of 8 rowdy Irish folks and the scene definitely fit in with the mood. There was a guy on a stage playing all kinds of fun bar songs and everyone was into the music, some getting up and doing the jig right in the middle of the restaurant portion of the bar.
For Falmouth, it was pretty lively. I liked it and if back in the area, would check it out again.
Oh, and the chicken quesadilla, loaded nachos, and buffalo chicken fingers were solid.
We decided to try this place during our stay in Falmouth Heights. The food was ok, but the service was HORRIBLE. I had to ask for a waitress to come take our order, then ask for set ups, then knives, then refills, then the check. Geeze. The food wasn't too bad, but the whole experience was ruined by the bad service. I will stay away when I go back to the area.
Review Source:The people reviewing here who had less than a good time at this place were either having a bad day or have a broomstick stuck in a painful place.
Goodness, Liam Maguire's is a find! We were a large group in town for a wedding, and had to find a place to satisfy multiple needs - one wanted a hamburgur, another a salad, and another insisted upon a lobster roll. We wandered Main St. and came across this marvelous pub. Had all the food, and great food it was. The lobster roll must have had a couple of pounds of chunky lobster on it, and if they have it, don't miss the chowder pot special. An amazing bowl of creamy chowder with a pile of shell fish. It's a heavenly chowder stew.
But more than the food was the music and atmosphere. Liam's 3 piece band of friends sang and played and sang and told jokes. We clapped to Irish tunes and sang along to familiar requests, especially the Johnny Cash songs (they do a GREAT Fulsom Prison...). We  ended up staying 4 hours! And then came back again the next night and did it all over again!
That said, I spotted the very odd party that sat stoically eating their cheeseburgurs, not cracking a smile, like they missed their elevator music. Most slipped out as soon as possible. They were either miserable or dull (the latter probably). Baffled me. Like they missed their iTunes and sitcoms. Some of them are posting reviews here I think.
Anyone who can't have a good time at Liam's, well, I hope I never have to sit at your table.
5 stars, with a bullet!
After some football, friends and a bit 'o imbibing at another favorite haunt on the cape, we were ready for a good meal and my husband is always a fan of the beef stew here at Liam's so we stopped in for a bite. Got some sweet seats at the bar and got ourselves a drink. Although the barman seemed to be a bit green, he served us fine despite a bit of a wait.
The menu is pretty extensive and I was being quite indecisive (big surprise) between some clam chowder and awesome apps or an actual entree. Well, the entree won out and I selected the braised beef short ribs. Well, little did I expect.....within a short time, out comes a FRED FLINTSTONE-SIZED portion of two ribs smothered in a delicious gravy served over yummy mashed potatoes and roasted veggies that I enjoyed far more than I expected (roasted onions, yes, carrots, yes....but celery...um yes, too!). My husband ordered the steak tips, his portion was by all means, adequate, but compared to mine, really looked, well, wimpy. He said they were tasty, but he did have plate envy. Suffice it to say that he ended up eating more from my dinner. The leftovers came home, fo sho!
Aside from the fantastic food, there was "live" entertainment, unfortunately, it was a duo of two young women, not so much lively, as melancholy...even downright depressing. Not what I'd seek out, or even enjoy in an Irish pub. We'd have stayed longer if they hadn't been playing. Maybe they knew someone in the management.
Overally, I'd recommend it for the food, and I've also heard some very enjoyable entertainment at Liam's on other occasions. So give it a try if you're ever in Falmouth, MA.
Liam's was fun! We didn't eat there so I can only really comment on the bar service but they had a ton of alcoholic options including a drink called Liam's Twisted Tea (or something like that) which is a mixuture of Jeremiah Weed's Sweet Tea Vodka and homemade lemonade. All I can say is they go down WAY too easy on a hot summer day!
Liam himself was singing up some Irish songs and the crowd was loving it. Overall a really fun time.
If you're looking for a quick bite or something casual Liam's is a great option. Â Our party of three ordered salads and appetizers for a light bite before heading over to British Beer Company to meet some friends for drinks. Â There may be something treasonous of leaving Liam's for the British, but that's another story.
The Cobb Salad was great. Â I ordered mine without egg or onion just because that's how I like it, and it looked like the kitchen made up the difference in avocado, cucumber, and tomato. (Full entrees are also available.)
We lucked out and got to see the Brian Boru Pipe Band. Â Their timing was perfect as they played a quick set just after we ordered and finished up right as our food was served. Â Really made for a festive atmosphere.
Our server was super attentive and shared some local info and talked up the pub's St. Patrick's Day party. Â If I happened to be in the area on the 17th, I'd definitely be there.
I've got a friend on the cape who likes Liams but I don't really see what all the fuss is about. It's not bad, not at all. Liam Maguire's is just so perfectly average that if I'm going to eat in Falmouth I'd prefer to look at other options first. Food's a tad pricy for the quality.
I've had the bangers & mash. I've had a salad with boneless buffalo wings. I've sampled (read: ate some of my GF's order) the mussels. No complaints really, it's just all very adequate.
By far the BEST Irish bar on Cape Cod, and one of the damn best in New England. Why? Â Because Liam is actually from Ireland! Â That really helps! The owners, Deb and Liam, are as authentic as they come - what you see is what you get. They run a tight ship, but everyone is always smiling and the staff loves working there. Â Food is great - try the Guinness stew on a fall day, or try one of their many seafood specials in the summer. Â They have all kinds of beer - from the classics like Guinness and Harp and Smithwick's, to almost everything in a bottle.
You don't like beer? Â No problem! Â They still love you at Maguire's! They make great pomegranate martinis, and have a wonderful wine collection as well.
Make sure you check the website for their daily specials, and check out the calendar for LIVE Irish music - the best! Sing along to Danny Boy, Irish Rover and the Unicorn song, making a fool out of yourself, and meeting new people.
Because, after all, the motto at Liam's is, "There are no Strangers, Just Friends you Haven't Met Yet"...
Buy some Maguire Wear at <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.liammaguire.com&s=401e81322ad6e82716fe949e297070d41191c776afdf1ab91ea22eb42fc322cb" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.liammaguire.c…</a> - Liam needs the money!
If you happen to be in Falmouth and for some reason wander outside of Woods Hole this is a pretty decent place to wind up. Â Definitely the most "authentic" Irish bar in the area, its big draw is the traditional bands that play almost nightly. Â The crowd is kind of mixed; on one hand there's alot of college age to twenty-somethings hanging in the corners, on the other, this is my 57 year old parents' favorite haunt. Â Beyond the multiple varities of Harpoon and Guiness, the biggest draw for me is the cheeseburgers. Â If the virgin Mary was to give birth to a char-broiled delicacy instead of JC himself, she'd pop out one of Liam's cheeseburgers. Â Beyond that, the rest of the food is over priced and just ok. Â All in all a great place to have a pint and a bite to eat and listen to some rebel tunes.

I've played the Wild Rover
No they Never No more
Memorize the above song if you want to be cool in this bar/town. Don't worry, if you down one to many Guinisses, the words are embrazed on the walls...The owner, Liam, has an infectiously cute Irish boy band and the place is bursting full of positivity and delcious food.
