Can't leave much of a review. Â The outside is nice. Â Feels "woodsy". Â When I went it wasn't super busy. Â Service wasnt really speedy though either. Â And we had Margaritas which seemed a little pricey once we got the tab....but they were pretty decent. Â If you don't like sugar-rush sweet, then avoid the peach. Â Its superrrr sweet.
Review Source:Inattentive and indifferent service. No drink menu, 1 food menu to share between the 2 of us. The limes for our drinks were the absolute most pathetic dried out non friday night drink garnishes that ever got garnished. The outdoor space was exactly what we were looking for, but the rest was quite disappointing.
Review Source:When I lived in South Austin this was my favorite outdoor beer bar to come to. Â Outdoor seating, big screen tvs, washers, great Texas weather. Doesn't get any better. Â The service was meh but I really don't care because going up to the bar for my beer is easy. Â I never ate the food here but in all honesty I never really wanted to - how good can it be?!
Review Source:First of all I want to say, you are a liar whomever decided that the address was on I-35. Little Woodrows is very much located off Slaughter, West of I-35 - but in the South Park Meadows shopping complex, so I suppose that's where this address comes from. Confusing. Meh.
Okay, what I love about this place: I win here.
Me + Beer + Washers = Happy Me.
If I'm playing in the dark at THIS Little Woodrow's location, I can't lose. It's been proven over and over and over and has almost led to a divorce. If we play at Red's I suck... in my back yard, I suck. But here, I'm gold.
I have also never paid for a drink here... because I drink here with my husband. But it's still cool to say. And still a win for me.
This joint supports local art - at the bidding of local radio. And then I win things.
Little Woodrow's South Park Meadows was one of a number of bars who hosted a live painting competition for Blue Moon sponsored by 101x where artists showed up and painted on site, under a time limit, according to the criteria, then by a popular vote, one winner was awarded, and the top three for the night moved on in a vote-based competition.
It was an amazing experience to participate in, but the best impression I got from it was the bar's willingness to host & accommodate artists - with our prima donna attitudes, with our angst, with our sloshy, spilly oil paints on their tables and fire pits. They were great.
Other than that event, I've frequented the bar a lot over the past year. The manager is extremely involved and very customer-service oriented. The girls can be moody - but what do you expect in a bar completely staffed with chicks in their 20's. Every once in a while there's going to be a hybrid episode of Jersey Shore meets The Wannabe Housewives of South Austin / North Buda. That's just how chick drama goes.
That aside, I've never had a probelm with price, with service, with an overall experience. Food is available of the pizza nature, supplied by an adjoining restaurant, but you can order it right there at your table.
Overall - 3 stars for general staisfaction, 5 stars because I won a grand after competing in that art event, Â and I LOVE that they support the local arts in general. 3 stars for general staff; 5 stars for the manager. 5 stars for having washer pits & pool, but 3 stars for overall environment on the inside, which is kinda spread out with ginormous booths and not exactly great group-seating environment when it comes for comfort. My brain says that averages to 4 stars. So there it is.
I liked it here. Â A nice crowd. Â The staff was very friendly and busy but still friendly and attentive. Â This place is huge. Â They have a huge front patio with tables and fire pits. Â Inside is so cool. Â They have a huge bar and plenty of spacious tables and booths. Â A lot of big tvs. Â Everyone was having a good time here including me. Â The food was ok and that's it. Â I can come back.
Review Source:Lately much better than in the past. Had rude bartenders before but the last few visits have been great. Server was very smiley and attentive. I could smoke outdoors and they kept the drinks coming. Besides mediocre food (still better than Chili's, though great menu options for fried bar food), this place has turned around a lot and I appreciate their efforts to really improve their service.
Review Source:2 words- Â Midget Wrestling!
After the week I'd had I needed some BEER!! Â I headed out to Little Woodrows last night having no idea that it was midget wrestling night! Â Â What a treat! Â I'll admit at first I was not happy about the cover charge BUT IT WAS WORTH iT!
Drinking beer, smoking cigarettes, eating chili cheese fries, watching midgets wrestle does life get any better? LOL I had a GREAT night which I was in dire need of! My week had been rough-an ex friend of mine began HARASSING me to pay her back RIDICULOUS. Back off I'm broke! Needless to say my stress levels were high so I needed to unwind. Â
RAMPAGE! Â LIttle NAsty! Â These guys were GREAT! Â Incidentally I was hesitant to use the word "midget" but they assured us that's what they like to be called. Â These guys put on an amazing show! Â Rampage actually did pushups with another wrestler on his back. Â The whole show was exactly what I needed. Â A perfect start to what I hope will be perfect weekend as long as no debt collectors call. LOL
Little Woodrow's is a fun bar not all that far from my parents place so I enjoy coming here to grab a drink and watch the game when I'm in town. Â They have a very nice patio that in good weather is always packed. LW's has some pretty decent pizza as well. They offer decent beer prices, nothing to outrageous. Â Live music shows weekly and a lively crowd.
Review Source:There's a little bit of EVERYTHING here at the Little Woodrows for a good bar. Â I think this place is a hidden gem if you want to avoid the downtown crowd and avoid the hassle of finding parking. We always go to this Little Woodrows every time we visit Austin because of the huge patio and the huge recreational area where you can play washers and horseshoe pits at the back. The staff has been great to us and have been engaging each time we were there. The managers have been really helpful and they always tell us about new beers from Austin since we are now Dallasites.
I've always had a good time here with the live music and the fact that I can get a beer once I sit up at the bar. They have tvs and if you're out on the patio you can watch the big screen from the outside. There is ample shade and even though it may be scorching hot outside, the trees in surrounding the area helps. It makes you forget that you are the middle of a shopping plaza when you're hanging out here because of the trees and the lay out. It makes me feel like I'm really in the Hill Country when I am here.
During spring, they have Crawfish Boil parties. They also have Turtle Racing which to me is very exciting. They have good appetizers which we always order so we have room for beer. This bar is definitely a good place to unwind and let's not deduct the awesome specials they have each day. I'll keep on coming back here since it's my favorite spot south of Austin.
Went on a Thursday Night for Giant Mug Night, $4 for a huge mug of domestic draft. That's a really good deal! Got kind of hungry so I checked out their menu, which is really small. Just apps and some sandwiches. I did the usual "How's the hamburger?" and our fairly friendly waitress said the usual "I like it." Easy enough. It's $8.99 for a "Big Ass Half-Pound Burger," and I was hungry, so I bought. Cheese? $0.50 more. Got the usual "Would you like fries or chips with that?" I say "Umm, fries." Who knew, fries don't come standard with the burger! How much? $1.00 more. I had no idea. Ok, so it's now a $10.49 hamburger, better be good. It was...OK. Didn't seem much bigger than any other hamburgers around town. A little burnt but I have low standards so I ate it nonetheless. No mayo. Who doesn't put mayo on? Finely shredded lettuce. Is that kid of weird to anyone else? Could just be me.
Overall, I love the layout of the place. It's a great addition to South Austin. They had a pretty good guitarist playing covers outside. Our table had some food on it and it was never cleaned after we sat down (just kind of moved the stuff to the side). Service was good. Thursday $4 Big Mug is a great deal. Buy your burger from somewhere else.
I have never felt more insulted at ANY other bar in my life.
I've been to this bar 5-10 times now the past couple months, and every time I'm hopeful that there will be better service and every time i am overwhelmed with disappointment. I've been here both early and late, both on weekends and weekdays, and I always have different servers/bartenders with the same TERRIBLE attitude. We always end up leaving and drinking elsewhere.
Every time I've been here my group has been very mild mannered, polite, and respected by everyone else around us yet still we get treated like dirt by the girls working. If you can ever catch the attention of ANYONE who works there despite how slow the place might be, they will never greet you, never smile, never ask if you want another drink, and you will always get the attitude that you would expect from a bratty unthankful pre-teenage girl. I get WAY better service from bars on 6th street during peek hours on Friday and Saturday nights (most of those places being 1/2 as small as Woodrow's, 5x more crowded, and having much less staff).
When I go to a bar I'm not expecting staff to jump for joy that I'm there, give their undivided attention to me. I don't need them to be effusively enthusiastic or to be there the moment my glass is empty.. I just want to be ACKNOWLEDGED with a kind hello or even a simple SMILE and not have eyes rolled at me when I politely ask for another drink after my glass has been empty for 30-40 minutes....... what will it take to get some COMMON COURTESY and RESPECT from this place???? It's such a shame because this could be such a cool hangout especially being in the same plaza as my apartment, but I will gladly drive further to a place where the business of my friends and I will be appreciated..
I happened upon my first visit to this place just last week. My initial impression is that it has potential.
On the one hand, it has a nice outside seating area for being in the Southpark Meadows sprawl. Additionally, I give them props for a decent draft beer selection, particularly with regard to the local crafts that they have on tap. The draft prices are reasonable too. A 32 oz local craft was like $4 on a Tuesday. How awesome is that!?
On the other hand though, there were no servers, or if there were they decided that they didn't wanna work work that night. There were only bartenders to take drink orders which required going to the bar for every drink refill. I mean it was a tuesday, but still, I thought this was somewhat odd given that other reviews mention servers. At any rate it wasn't a huge deal to me.
Lil Woodrow's at Southpark doesn't replace my absolute favorite place in Austin to kick it, but based on my initial visit, it's an okay place to chill on occasion.
So unlike most of the people that have reviewed this place, I've never been to another Little Woodrow's. Not the one on 6th St, never been to Houston, before Sunday... I was a Little Woodrow's virgin.
I probably would've lost my LW virginity earlier, however, it's nearly impossible to find this place. I tried twice and couldn't find it, gave up, and went to another bar.
I know you're judging me right now and thinking I have no sense of direction, but it's because their address is 9500 I35 ok, it's not easy, it's a really big shopping center. Â
Finally I asked one of my friends, and she told me it's right behind the Sonic, which helped tremendously and I finally found it. Are you reading this other LW virgins? Go down Slaughter, turn at the Sonic.
We were lucky enough to come in on a Sunday, a sad Sunday with no football, but a happy Sunday because all drafts are $3 and their burgers were buy one get one free. AND the Grammys were on. AND they had the sound on with it.
As you can imagine, this scenario made me very happy. The beer was delicious and cold, plus they have an excellent selection. Their burgers were above average, and though the bartender wasn't exactly oozing with personality, she gave us good service. Our beer was never empty.
Let's face it though, the atmosphere is why people like this place. The whole bar is pretty much an enclosed patio, with a firepit outside. The idea of fire and drinking makes me kind of nervous, but I can dig it.
I'll be seeing you again Little Woodrow's... especially now that I know where you are.
The ladies here rocked it last night.
Being Cowboys fans (please don't judge), the BF and I needed to find a place to watch the game, which was only showing on the NFL network (damn you, Time Warner!!). Â I called Little Woodrow's and found out that they opened just 15 minutes before I called. Â We hopped in the car and made the short drive. Â Got a good parking spot, and we were still able to get a very decent table.
The waitresses were awesome (I believe there were only two working), and even though the place got packed, they were able to get around to everyone and get you your food and drink within just a few minutes. Â Even when there were some rowdy customers (seriously, grow the eff up, people), these ladies were able to handle everything with a smile on their face.
The fries were hot, the beer was cold, and the evening was almost perfect (damn Cowboys!).
Little Woodrows has terrible service. I'm formerly a Houstonian and have visited every Little Woodrows under the Houston moon. Oddly, they all have different atmospheres, drinks, food (some don't) and service.
Why do I continue to visit this location? I can't help but relax when thinking of the fantastic patio. They also have superb specials.
I go in with the expectation that the waitresses don't care, won't take your orders immediately and will take forever to refill your drinks.
Do yourself a favor. Get your drinks at the bar and then sit in a booth in the open-air bar. Relax and enjoy Austin.
Let me start by saying I have only found one Little Woodrows that I like and its the 6th st. bar, so when I found myself liking this one I was surprised. The first bartender we had took forever to stop talking to some older gent who was hitting on her. But she noticed us and right away came to get us drinks. She was friendly and on top of getting our drinks ASAP.
They also have an amazing outdoor fire place. I mean you can sit outside while its cold and be completely warm without smelling like a fire for the rest of the night. Its a great place to hangout while the smokers smoke.
We sat enjoying our drink then the old 2 am came up and we had to go. We chatted a bit with one of the other bartenders who was awesome. I mean she was friendly even though she had a bad night. Hands down one of the best Little Woodrow staff that I have ever seen.
Overall It was a nice change of bars to get away from the downtown weekend crowd. If your in south Austin go check it out.
I live in North Austin, and there happens to be a Little Woodrow's within walking distance of my home. While that location is entirely subpar, with terrible service, and an obnoxious crowd, both the 6th street and slaughter lane locations I have been to in the last 48 hours were pleasantly surprising.
Certainly not my favorite type of bar, but I can most certainly see drinking here again. When I sat down I was debating between drinking a Real Ale Phoenix, or a Magic Hat, and the bartender happily informed me that the Magic Hat was on special for only $3.00 a pint, which made my decision quite easy.
The bartenders were extremely friendly and tolerable (after all I am an annoying SOB). And while not appealing to everyone I loved that I was able to talk to my friend without shouting, and walk more than six inches without bumping into someone on a Friday night. This bar also has a great fire pit on the patio out front, which I find to be a great benefit, especially right now as cold as it has been.
The crowd is a bit older than the bars I usually frequent, but I'm fine with that. The only other small negative was we had to wait a few minutes before we got the waitresses attention, but I never felt ignored, she just didn't see us at first, which I can completely understand.
I didn't love the bar, but I would, and probably will gladly drink here again.
When Little Woodrows opened a couple of years ago in Southpark Meadows it was a big day. Â They were one of the first real bars to come down to the Slaughter area, and I am giving them a star for starting the process because now they are starting to get lost in the flood of south Austin spots to watch a game.
Little Woodrows has an excellent beer selection, with several differently themed weeknight specials which are a good deal if you like beer and cheap food. Â They have wine of so so quality, where I'd like it better if they knocked about a buck off of the glass price as they are nearing the mark where one glass costs about as much as a bottle of the stuff is retail. Â They also don't offer wine by the bottle which is unfortunate when you're lovely wife hates beer and you are there for 4 hours for a football game.
There's no hard liquor to be found anywhere at Little Woodrows, which stinks for the early games where a bloody mary always hits the spot. Â The menu has recently been modifed where pizza is no longer an option, which I doubt anyone cares about as it was pretty gross anyway.
They have ample seating indoor and out with lots of electronic games along with washers set up in the back. Â With two other sports bars located in Southpark Meadows, I would assume that a table will be easier to come by than it used to be. Â While I prefer the new Third Base to Little Woodrows, it is worth noting that these guys are the cheapest option of you are willing to drink domestic bottles at $10 a bucket.
So I kicked off UT football season by going to Little Woodrows. My friend Corina haven't been to this Little Woodrows. She was tempted to go to the one on 6th but she thought it was going to be way more crowded.
At least at this Little Woodrows you wouldn't have to worry about parking too much.
Kickoff time was 6PM. We decided to get there at 5:30PM. Unfortunately all the inside seating was taken. We had to go outside. Luckily there was a table out there and we decided to sit there. The TV outside wasn't big enough and there was a glare because of the sun setting in the west. We missed a little bit of the 1st quarter.
I ordered a mimosa and my friend ordered a Lone Star. For appetizers we ordered chips and queso and cheese fries. So there goes my diet...But it so good and our waitress was awesome and kept on asking if we needed anything.
I'm definitely going back to Little Woodrows especially for UT Football season which from now to the end my Saturdays considered busy.
I love Lil Woodies!!! Â I was introduced by some friends and we would go every week on steak night! Â Mmm so good!
Steak night is revolving night at each Woodies:
Tues- Parmer
Wed- Downtown
Thurs- South
You get a HUGE steak and baked potato for like $13. I HATE beer, but I found an incredible beer that I love- Aces Pear! Â So, Guys if your gal hates beer, but you wanna go to a beer pub get her a Aces Pear!!! Â
I've always had great service and Sundays the drafts are like $2.50! Â Wow! Â Mondays Texas Beers are $2.00
The south location has a full kitchen and the fried mushrooms are great! Â
I love this place for just sitting and chatting with friends!
PLUS, my husband proposed to me here....so I guess Lil Woodies will always have a special place in my heart ;)
Hey, laaadiiieees!
Have you lowered your standards in men? Then this is your spot. Every time I have visited this place, it has been populated primarily by tables of hulking goons - some of the frat variety, some sports dorks and some...I'm not sure what. Lots of shouting ("Yah, Bro!!") and high-fiving goes on here. I think that probably says it all.
The sliders are good, the pizza is awful and for those of you who don't really want to talk to your drinking companions, there are about thirty-five tv screens blaring various sporting events. Â They do have a wide variety of beers and specials but frankly, spending even an hour in this place makes me very, very stabby. Â Avoid.
Over 30 beers on tap and over 100 available. Some wine. No liquor.
Lots of TV's. Lots of outdoor seating, and quite a bit of indoor seating. Large garage-style doors mean that you get a really nice breeze coming in (the ceilings are 20ft up). It's much larger than I expected it to be, and the food is tastier than most bar food. Pretty casual atmosphere...not too loud but not quiet either.
Pretty girls serving whatever beer you want. Pretty simple and easy to like.
-Beer and wine...those are my two options??? Â
-Yeah, but they have all kinds of of beer and lot of different wines.
-And I have to stare at dudes scratching their junk while they watch 'the game' on the freakin' plasmas plastered all over the walls?
-Well, you don't have to exactly stare at them.
-Fine! Â
So, I drove myself across the street (you try crossing Slaughter on foot and then tell me I'm ridiculous for driving my car across the street instead of walking) to Little Woodrow's. Â The place is huge! Â Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Â Out front they have a huge fire pit that they light up in the winter (good for keeping your hands warm). Â
The back patio is what I like most about this place. Â They have washer pits, which are fun, and the picnic tables are big enough for large crowds and they're comfy, too. Â The service is always slow, though, and the drink specials aren't all that special.
"Come meet us.... it's behind the Taco Bell."
So I did.
Why is it that a Fireman's tastes so much better when you're hot and sweaty and stinky? If you don't believe me, try it. It's true.
Waitress was good. Busy, and forgot a few things, but once I had one drink, all was well with the long week. Â French fries were good. Â Beer was good. Company was awesome. Nice outdoor seating in the front--I didn't make it to the back.
By the way, ladies, we're squatters.
Little Woodrow's is a solid choice for a laid-back, low-key booze joint. Yeah it's a chain and yeah they only serve beer, but you've got some great options nevertheless.
I've spent many, many nights on various days of the week at this particular location and have yet to have anything but a fabulous time. More beers on tap than I have fingers or toes assures there's something for everyone.
Even if your lady friend disagrees with going to a place that doesn't have Cosmos, tell her they have these fancy frozen mimosas. They're cheap too, guys. $4 each or something like that.
I like their big, six-person booths. I prefer a booth to a table any day, and the fact that they have booths that accommodate my typical amount of members in my party make it a marvelous coincidence.
Home of the BIG ASS BEER TUESDAYSSSSS!!!
I grew up with a Little Woodrow's around the corner from me in Houston, so I know how packed and HUGE Little Woodrow's can be. That said, in my opinion, Little Woodrow's is not as huge.... I knew people who drove from across Houston to have a Big Ass Beer..... You bought your cup and every Tuesday you brought it in for cheap draft beers....
Anywho, I went to this location the other day.... while waiting to catch the Golden Compass in the theater around the corner. We didnt know if we were supposed to seat ourselves because the layout was very weird.... We sit, and eventually someone comes to greet us. She was young and you could tell very green to the industry. She takes our drink orders and does not card me, although I had my id out... That was A FIRST for me to not to be carded!
The beer (Ace Pear Cider) was really nice, I decided to order food with my friends... I was shocked that practically EVERYTHING came with fries..... we ordered wings and mini burgers, pizza which was huge but not a lot of toppings for $2.00 for each extra topping...... a greek salad, and chicken strips. Everything was expected... pub food. I thought it was good paired with the beers, but the service was very slow. I had to get up to ask for napkins, s&p, and extra salad dressing.....
I liked that the kitchen was completely open so you could see it from out front... I think I could hang out here on a regular basis, just need to train the waiter to be faster and ask questions... I like how relaxed it is.... and I hope that my review can get better with time at this place.
This is was my first time visiting this bar with my other half. It's within walking distance to where I live so next time I decide that I want to get drunk and not drive, this is the place to visit.
The open space for seating outside, it is great for group. The food choices is great for beer pub. The beer selection is wonderful since you can choose. The services, I think that it can be improve upon. when I ask for a beer and you come back without it and ask me how is going. it is not good way to begin with. I think, they need to hire more staff.
I definitely will continue to visit the place and recommended to my friends. I visited the place on friday night.
This place has become a benchmark for my rule of reviewing. Â Try not to review someplace you've only been once. Â This is particularly true of bars, more than restaurants or other services, because bars are often judged as places you'd want to hang out in, and one visit is not hanging out. Â My first visit to the new south location of Little Woodrow's was great, the only thing they were lacking in the opening week of the NFL season was public Wi-Fi access, something the waitress and the manager assured us would be available soon. Â The second visit here was miserable.
We went the very next Sunday, laptops ready for fantasy football tracking, excited to spend an afternoon watching games on all the hi-def televisions. Â We got there about 12:15, just after the first round of games started.
And there was one person working. Â The manager.
No bartenders, no waitresses. Â before he knew it, there were 85 people in the bar, and I waited for almost an hour for my second beer. Â When the first waitress finally showed up to work, a poor girl who showed up on her day off doing a desperate manager a favor, she got a standing ovation fro the room.
The third visit put these guys right back on track. Â The server seemed disinterested in us, but she got the job done. Â The beers were plentiful, cheap, and properly cold. Â The food, which was always lacking at the other location of Little Woodrow's, was yummy. Â The atmosphere out on the well shaded patio was excellent, and there were many friends there to hang out with. Â That, thankfully, was just what I was looking for.
I think Colby said it best.
I really, really enjoyed my evening at Little Woodrow's South. (Despite the fact that I showed up at the 6th Street location first.) We sat outside under a canopy of trees whilst being fed and provided multiple beers. They even lit a fire in the firepit which helped keep mosquitos away.
One thing I noticed right away was the difference in clientele. Less downtown banker and more blue collar South Austin vibe. I dug it. You will too.
So far here is what is has going for it:
+ very close to my office
+ $3 wine on Wed (including Estancia Pinot Noir, one of my favorite)
+ lots and lots of patio space
+ an actual food menu
A few down sides:
+ the back patio over looks the loading dock of the strip mall
+ they are still working out the kinks, like waitresses arriving for their shifts (really bad my first visit, perfectly fine my second visit)
Like Kevin N, this might be an evolving review, since I know I will be back often and as they work out all the kinks
Let me preface this note with the notion that this review will likely (hopefully) evolve: Â there's no way that the service will be this slow over time, unless they're really into the sink a gob of cash into a business then close up shop type of business plan. Â I have a sneaky suspicion that's not the aim. Â
That said, here are a few things I'm really excited about regarding this Slaughter Lane version of Little Woodrow's. Â Lots of beer on tap, steak night on Wednesdays, give or take a billion TV screens to catch your favorite game when it's on. Â This Sunday, however, for all the extras this place promises, we couldn't rightly enjoy it, as the bartender was busy getting his business ass kicked, as Dennis Miller might say, 'like a narc at a biker rally.' Others have commented, but when the waitress didn't show who was supposed to help this dude, they brought in about four to cover. Â That's how busy they were, and that's how behind they were. Â When they did get caught up, there was clapping and I almost felt sorry for them. Â Almost. Â I was that thirsty. Â At one point we briefly considered calling in our beer order from our perch at the bar. Â
I bet that bartender's fillng his Prozac prescription today. Â
At any rate, regardless, I'll be back again to see if things even out over time, and given the track record of the locale on W 6th, and all of the good yelping I'm reading about the location up north, stands to reason that it likely will. Â
Here's hoping that this was a statistical outlier, that the no-show waitress is looking for new work, and that the next few times I'm in will be smooth as silk. Â 'Cause it's football season, and some of us need our big screen hangouts.
Simply put the South location makes me want to move to Slaughter Lane.
I love Little Woodrow's South. Â Anyone who has read my review of the 6th street location knows I love Little Woodrow's, so you can take or leave my review of it. Â I was accused of being an owner of Little Woodrow's, I'm not, but if I could buy stock in it I would.
First let me say Little Woodrow's is a chain. Â It is based out of Houston, I think the first one was in Bellaire. Â I know yelpers hate chains, I don't. Â I think if something is good, there should be more of them. Of course I am biased too. My Pops runs Burger Kings in Houston. A chain paid for my 13 years at UT.
I'm not a southie, and this location is south south, like Buda south almost. Â I was on I-35 headed south, and I realized - shit I dunno where this place is. Â Was it Stassney? No South Park Meadows is further south than Stassney. I made the mistake of exiting William Cannon because I didn't want to pass it up. Â About 33 minutes later I finally made it through the light at 35 and William Cannon. Â Jebus, that is one damn long light.
To my surprise South Park Meadows, the huge field where I saw Ziggy Marley, the Black Crowes, and numerous music festivals, is now a gi-normous strip mall. Â There is a super target, a walmart I think, every big box store you can think of. I drove around the damn place for another 30 minutes looking for Little Woodrow's.
I finally gave up and called Little Woodrow's on Sixth for help. It was easy because I have them on speed dial on my phone. What? You don't have your bar on speed dial on your phone? Â No? Oh so I'm a drunk just because I have my favorite pub on speed dial on my phone? Â Does it make it worse that it goes in order, my wife, my sister, my pub 1,2,3? I suppose I'm a bigger drunk because The Texas Showdown is #4 huh? Â Seriously, quit judging me!
Well it turns out I had passed it entirely. It is right on Slaughter behind the Chick Fil-A. Â I was fully prepared not to like it, seriously I was. I freakin hate strip centers. Â But although, Little Woodrow's South is in a strip center it is at the end of one, in a little wooded part, that seems like its own beer park. Â
Out front there is a huge sign that says LITTLE WOODROW'S and there is this pretty patio with seating on a couple levels and there is a huge bonfire pit right in the middle of it. The inside looks sort of like the north location but the long bar is over on the left and there is seating to the right.
I counted 9 big booths inside, 16 little tables for 4, 9TV's hangin inside, plus a 150 sq ft screen that comes down for UFC and football, plus 2 flat screens over the bar.
They have all the same specials as the other LW's. Sunday Night is best $2.50 any draft, Mondays is $2 any Texas beer, Tuesdays is Big Ass Beer (Lone star 23oz $1.75), Wednesdays is $3 wine night(This is new to this locations) Thursdays is Giant Mug Night (25oz Lone Star $3.) and Steak Night. Saturdays is u-call it night at the bar. Â Unless you are getting a better deal, Lone Star is always $2 though.
They say have 33 beers on tap and 100 different beers total. Â Also they have $10 buckets of beer during longhorn games. Â They also say they will show all UFC events, and have every package, NFL Sunday Ticket, NBA, NCAA, Â MLB, and NBA. Â They did not get MLB for this season, because there is only one month left. But they will next year.
Ok, back to my trip. Â I get out of the car, and the manager "W" sees me and screams "Don's in the house!" Â Which made me feel welcome. I saw 2 waitresses that had moved from the Central Location, "J" and "L". I said hi to them. Â Then I walked up to the bar to get a Lone Star.
A funny thing happened.....two minutes later I was still standing at the bar and I didn't have a lone star. Â They were just busy, 1st day open and all. Then a bartender walked up to me and looked at me, and finally asked "can I help you? " I said, "I'll take one." Â And she looked at me weird. So to help her out I put up my hand with my index finger out to indicate "one." Â She still looked at me weird. Finally the poor girl says, "One what?"
Hahahaha, they don't know you here Don, you freakin moron. Â You actually have to say, "One Lone Star please." Â Hahahaha,
I get my beer and wander outside for a smoke. Â Anyways I follow the wall around the back and guess what is there? Â A big sign that says LITTLE WOODROW'S BACK YARD! Â What sweet heaven is this? Â A Little Woodrow's with a back yard? Â Yup yup, it is true. They have some tables out there, and get this......Washers! Â You can play freakin washers in the backyard. Â This greatly appeals to my inner redneck. Â
They also have 2 cornhole boards out there. http://www.playcornhole.… - The place is just freakin amazing, southies are going to love it, the way I love mine on 6th and my sister loves hers on Parmer.
