This is an average seafood restaurant on the cape. If you sit by the window, you can enjoy a decent view of the water. The service was great from start to finish. Everyone was very pleasant without being in our faces while we ate. The boyfriend and I had a lobster roll each. The rolls were comparable to some of the other places on the Cape but had a very buttery flavor (maybe a bit too much butter). We also shared a lobster bisque and a clam chowder. The chowder was great and the lobster bisque wasn't too bad either. Overall, I would give this about a 3.5.
Review Source:I wanted a place where we could have drinks and apps looking at the water as we had a late night reservation and we happened upon the Lobster Boat. We were able to snag a table outside, in the complete shade, looking right at the water (2 stars just for that). I had a glass of white wine sangria and hubby and the shrimp bloody Mary. Just the standard Bloody Mary with a cocktail shrimp. I had a cup of lobster bisque and he had a cup of their chowder. Both came out hot and were really good. We also split the stuffed Quahogs (came with two) and they were really good as well. Our waitress may have been stretched a bit thin, but overall was pleasant and attentive (as best as she could be). We had a great experience and would come again for drinks/apps!
Review Source:Nothing special here. Â Over priced lobster and the staff was meh. Â I had the twin lobster lunch deal. Â Which was the same dinner deal. Â My friend hand the lobster roll lunch deal which was the same dinner deal....get it? Â There was no deal. Â The staff was not very helpful. Â I won't be back anytime soon.
Review Source:I have been going to Cape Cod for 30 years and have never eaten here. Â The decor outside screams tourist trap. Â I found out it serves 350 at capacity and they regularly take the tour buses in to meet that capacity.
The inside is tacky and looks tired. Â We had a large party of 8 and a server named Tina Marie who seemed more interesting in complaining to her co-workers than providing good service. Â Half the table went for the twin lobster special. Â When the lobsters were served we didn't receive any shell crackers, bibs, or bowls. Â We waited about 5 minutes and told Tina Marie. Â She said she would get it but another 10 minutes goes by and one of our party has to stalk her down and she says she forgot. Â Also, one of the orders was slightly wrong which she never fixed.
The lobsters were cooked well. Â One of my daughters got the fish and chips kids meal and it was a 1 star at best. Â Overall, I would not recommend this place. Â The only reason we ended up there was Captain Parkers had a 1 hour wait- should have waited!
Got the twin lobster special for $21.99. It was delicious, although I asked for rice pilaf and got French fries. The clams casino were great, the bacon added quiet the flavor.
My partner in crime got the fried shrimp platter and was pleased with the lightly breaded, slide off the shrimp taste.
I don't know what day some yelpers went to the lobster boat but the service was exquisite! Tamara was great!!
Ok here it is...down and dirty twin lobster with corn and potato for around $20 bucks. Food factory but I love it and we go every time we are on the Cape.
It you have kids and like to get your lobster on for a good value then this is the place. Lots of room for big parties and the feeling of a fast paced lobster off so if this is appealing then you have found the Lobster Boat.
When my other half suggested we go here for lunch I took one look at the place and laughed. But he said "my family took me here all the time when I was a kid" so I agreed to try it.
We were seated outside on the deck, which had nice views of the waterfront. The service was fast and friendly. A simple menu but nice that they had offerings for the non seafood lover. I had the lobster roll which was AMAZING, not too much mayo and tons of lobster chunks. My boyfriend had the steak and he enjoyed it.
Only complaint is there is no craft beer :(
Really liked the hand salt scrub in the ladies bathroom, nice touch Lobster Boat.
So, I came here this past Thursday (6/21) around 6:30 with five other people. Â We were seated fast, outside of the main dining room in an enclosed porch. Â It was hot and there was absolutely no air flow which kind of sucked. Â The fans were positioned in kind of a weird way. Â
The service was okay. Â I think our table suffered a little bit because of a woman seated right next to us who kept complaining about every little thing. Â The manager even came over a few times to talk to that table. Â Our waiter was nice, not the most attentive but I've definitely had worse. Â
We started the night with pina coladas (okay) and clam chowder. Â The clam chowder is the only reason I would ever come back here. Â It was phenomenal. Â I ordered the baked seafood sampler, it came with shrimp, scallops and native fish topped with "parmesan ritz crumbs and a lemon white wine butter sauce". Â It was absolutely disgusting. Â I ate the shrimp because it wasn't topped with anything (still way overcooked though) and my side of french fries. Â I attempted to eat the scallops and fish but the topping was so gross I just couldn't do it. Huge disappointment for a meal that's a hair under $20.
Did not have to wait at 7 pm on a Friday night! Â That was worth 4 stars! Â Clam chowder was pasty, too many potatoes not enough clams. Â
Bit too much bread in the stuffed clams, but tasty.
Mussels Bianco was great, twin lobsters came with two claws each, not the traditional cull, one claw.
Bread is amazing and it kept coming!
My family makes it a point to visit the Lobster Boat at least 3 times each summer. It has a wonderful atmosphere and the food is super fresh. It's so nice to dine on the water. Service was excellent considering it is such a busy location. The clam chowder is UNBELIEVABLE! It really makes it difficult to order chowder anywhere else because it is so good.
Review Source:It's ok. Nothing special, but nothing bad.
The bread was perhaps the greatest of all time - perfectly buttery and soft.
In my two location chowder showdown (vs. The Skipper Restaurant), they came out the winner.
As for the entrees, we went with a basic, fried seafood. I got the Captain's Platter and my girlfriend got the scallops. The scallops were somewhat hit-or-miss, with some tasting delicious and some being watery and rubbery. The breading also fell off whenever they were picked up. The cod held it's breading better than any fried cod I'd ever had. the fries were good and I was told that the onion rings were excellent.
They were a bit stingy with the tartar sauce and it also was pretty sub-par.
So, average fried seafood. That might be okay away from the coast, but on the Cape, it might not be enough. If you have a craving for bread though...
This defines tourist trap.
I have given this place 3 chances and I am sorry that I did. It's right on the main drag in Yarmouth on 28 and easy to find. That's one of the few good things about it.
First, this restaurant is hot inside. No AC and the only relief are ceiling fans. So if it's a hot night, avoid this place.
The menu is what you would expect. A range of seafood and other turf dishes. I found it to be a bit overprice, especially for what you are given. The lazy mans lobster is a complete joke and a waste of money. Tiny portion and the lobster tasted terrible. If seemed as if it was frozen and then breaded and popped into the microwave. A friend with us ordered the prime rib. It came out overcooked. The waitress seemed miffed that it was over cooked. He asked for it rare and got it well done. She got him another one that was also not cooked rare, but medium. Whatever he was hungry so he ate it.
Oh and when we mentioned to the waitress that the lobster was very dry, she suggested that we pour a cup of butter over it. Yes, lets turn it into lobster soup loaded with tons of butter because that would taste well.
The service is decent at best. The waitress the first time seemed highly annoyed when we mentioned the issues with the food. Another visit had us waiting more than 30 minutes between ordering and getting our food even though the waitress informed us our food was in the window multiple times.
If you want good food in a good setting and good value, go to Captain Parker's right up the street. This place is an overpriced tourist trap.
The only saving grace for this place is the chowder.
Like what some reviewers said it is a huge restaurant that can seat large groups. Athough majority of the waitstaff are teenagers and college kids, service is not bad. However their food is terrible. Â My husband's calamari platter was soggy and bland. Â My crabcakes had overpowering herbs and seasonings; couldn't taste the crabmeat. Â Even my 3-year-old's pizza tasted like it came from one of those cheap individual frozen boxed pizzas that you get from the freezer aisle.
Review Source:The Lobster Boat is a spacious seafood resaturant that looks like (you guessed it) a boat on the inside. Â This place is perfect for large groups and families, as they have ample seating and a good amount of large tables. Â
The food here is good, but somewhat overpriced for what you get. Â They are extremely rigid about making substitutions with your meal. Â Want a salad instead of fries? Â That's fine but it's going to cost you about $5. Â Our particular waitress that night was nice but slightly unattentive. Â When we asked her some fairly simple questions about the menu she didn't seem to know the answers.
Me: "What sides come with this meal?"
Waitress: "Either rice or french fries."
Me: "No other choices?"
Waitress: "That's right"
Me: "Can you I vegetables?"
Waitress: "Yes."
Talking to her was like an annoying treasure hunt for simple answers. Â
The food itself was good but the portions weren't huge. Â I'd go back simply for the location and the fact that it's good for large parties. Â But, it would not be my first (or fifth) choice.
A tourist from the west coast, I went with a group of 4 at around 9PM at night. We were attracted by the sign that said twin lobsters for 19.99.
Upon entering we found it to be a very family oriented environment - nothing wrong with that, families with kids need to eat out too. Don't know what other reviewers are complaining about. If you didn't like the environment, walk out. This is Cape Cod, not Boston!
Anyway, I digress.
First impression was positive. The bread was served quickly and oh em gee - it was WARM. I havent had warm bread served in a restaurant since forever. Yay!
We saw a lot of trophies for the clam chowder - they seem to win every year. So we ordered one bowl to share amongst the 4 of us. It was pretty good as they go, a bit thick. I prefer the one in Seattle pike place though.
Then we ordered the family special, which, for 59.95, included the following - 4 whole lobsters, 4 corns on the cob, a mess of clam steamers and mussels, and a side dish each (you get a choice of rice pilaf, rice and different kinds of potatoes). Awesome value. It was a great dinner experience. We were stuffed and the whole thing costed around $20 including tax and tips. Ridiculous. We were happy campers. :)
And oh, they serve Samuel Adams beer too. And our waitress was a little on the rude humour side, it may offend some people. We were ok with it, but some people may not be.
We were forced to go here because we were on the Brushill Grayline Cape Cod tour - the bus dumps you here to eat lunch when we could have eaten on our own in town. The food is terrible - overpriced and tasteless. Did I mention the bad and impersonal service? It's like they know they have you because you are on a tour (but you have to pay for your food) and they automatically add 18% (that's why the waiters don't even try).
it was really hot in the restaurant too.
This is like a waterfront Red Lobster. You're better off grabbing a bag of Mrs. Paul's fish sticks and some ore ida fries from the frozen food section of your local grocery store.
They say they have the best clam chowder on the Cape, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually Campbell's.
Yuck. Save yourself a wasted trip.
Well, being one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time, the only reason this gets two stars is the generally positive experiences of the others at our table of 9. First off, the atmosphere of this place is on par with Chuck E Cheese. There were kids running around everywhere, some were even throwing frisbees. The decor was so tacky it screamed dumpy family restaurant, but the prices of the meals were that of a classier establishment. I ordered the mango shrimp salad along with a friend at our table. Big mistake. After nearly 45 minutes and at least 15 minutes of watching the others at our table eat they final brought us our salads. The mango was out of a can, the shrimp were bland and the salad left you feeling bored and tired. The waitress was very kind and gave her sincere apologies for our late meals and in return offered us a desert on the house.
It gets worse.
When the consolation deserts came we found that mine was moldy. Quite moldy. At this point, it wasn't really a surprise. I'm not one to usually complain so we could've made a bigger scene than we did. After this I was offered a $6.00 gift certificate.
I won't be returning and I strongly recommend others to stay away.
We went here twice last week with friends and family. We have not had a bad experience here. The chowder was very good although much thicker on the second visit. Twin lobster special is very popular even though they were culls. I had the Lazy man's stuffed lobster and it was just ok. Fried seafood platter I had was much better prior visit. This is only open during the summer and we go here every year with no issues. The decor has been there since they opened.
Review Source:Been there a few times with friends, the $20 twin lobster special is very popular with them. The non-seafood portion of the menu is disapointing and / or overcooked by experience. The tacky marina decor inside and out, makes this place almost a landmark. On busy hours the staff is very responsive once your order is in.
Review Source:The Lobster Boat is so dang cute. The wait staff is as nice as can be and the food for the most part is very good. My boyfriend and I shared a cup of their "award winning chowda" and both thought it was excellent. We also tried the calimari which we thought was nothing worth getting again. It was plain and the marinara was not appealing. We both ordered the twin cull lobster special (one clawed lobsters) for 19.95 it came with half cob of corn and one side (friend fries, baked potato and maybe a veggie). The corn was great, the friend fries were pretty good and the baked potato wasn't spectacular. The lobsters were on the small size MAYBE a pound, but other wise very fresh and tasty. The scenery at sun set was awesome. I'd definitely come back and try something new!
Review Source:Oh god. Soooooo Bad. Went to the "boat" in the height oh the season. Â The place easily seats 300. Let's say there were 25. Food, brutal. Seafood salad from a can, or at least the "meat" was in a strangely circular shape. Â And for the non seafood lovers you can have a hockey puck, I mean burger, on a stake bun. Â But at least you have the view. Â The boats saving grace, and descent service.
Review Source:Reading the reviews, we decided to give it a try. Service was very good and courteous. The chowder and lobster bisque were nice and thick, but way too salty. If not for that, would've given it 5 stars because the seafood was fantastic. It was quite fresh. Twin lobsters were $19.95 and much fresher than back in NY. The seafood platter was lightly fried and a hefty portion, all of which was succulent and fresh. The baked seafood dish was flavorful with a white wine lemon butter and ritz cracker topping. With Asian parents that are hard to please, they give it a two thumbs up.
Review Source:We've had countless lunches/dinners here since the view is spectacular and the food has always been consistently excellent. I personally love the "fisherman" decor and would expect nothing less out on the cape. The staff is super-friendly and the chowder is out of this world. I can't recall ever having an item i didn't like.
Not sure what all the fuss is about regarding screaming kids from other posts...it's a family restaurant serving individuals and families. Get over it! Would highly recommend this place if you're looking for a great meal with an even better view :)
It seems every time I go to the Cape I end up here for a meal. I've never had a bad experience. Most recently, I really enjoyed eating on the sunny waterfront patio and enjoying a fisherman's platter.
The platter, priced at $22.95 was a bit more then most places but was very generous. I'm glad we didn't order a side of clam bellies cause the platter had many. They were mostly on the smaller side but not bad. The scallops, shrimp and haddock are incredibly fresh. You could split this and call it dinner. Coleslaw was a bit creamy for my taste. The tarter sauce has a nice home made flavor.
Our server was awesome. People consider this place touristy, which it is and most places on the street will be labeled that way. It's one of the only places along the strip to get waterfront dining so I always choose it. It does get packed so try going on an off time to get a seat on the patio. On a Sunday at noon we were among the first there and got the best table.
Went to the Lobster Boat last week and I'm sure we won't return. Â We've driven by this place so many times and never tried it until last summer. Â Last year we sat outside by the water and it was pretty decent - the food was good, waiter was great and the view was nice. Â
This year we sat inside and couldn't stand it. Â The decor is so tacky it makes you ill. Â It's a typical Cape family restaurant - but the kids that night were out of control. Â I have 2 older kids and they were well behaved in restaurants when they were young (most of the time) - but we must have picked a bad kid night. Â Overall, the food was mediocre at best -- fisherman's platter, baked sole and lobster casserole. Â The waitress was nice and fairly attentive. Â My son couldn't go to dinner with us that night - I think he was glad that he missed this place. Â Bye Lobster Boat we won't be back.
Sat outside and that was nice... Chowder was fantastic, overpriced @ $5 a cup though. Service was ok. Our 2 children split the $19.95 for two lobsters. Culls(one claw) were SMALL, corn on the cob was lousy and they left still hungry. My King and I shared some combo platter that included a tiny lobster, fried scallops, shrimp, whole clams and fish that were pretty tasty. We asked to substitute whole clams for strips, waitress forgot  We could have got the same meal at Kream N Kone for less $$. Won't go back.
Review Source:Saw the $19.95 twin lobster special, so I had to stop in. The twin culls were actually a good size and I had a great meal at a good price. But their Lobster Bisque is what I'm going to return here for. I'm not usually a fan of bisques in general, but I needed a break from the chowder which I had been having every day of my Cape Cod trip. The bisque was perfect! Not too tomato-y, just the way I love it.
If you can get dockside seating, there is a nice view of the marina. But the biggest drawback of this place would be the screaming-whining-crying kids. I love families and all, but this family joint was a bit too loud for me.
Overpriced - and during peak season over run with tourist families (Yes, including ours) with loud kids and parents trying to steal a moment away with a cocktail.
The lobster was watery and overcooked (I got the twin culls for $19.95) served with tasteless corn on the cob and slaw.
Big fat whoop.
We've been here twice now (once in 2007 and once in 2009) and I feel no need to return.
Oh - and their $16.00 lobster roll is no better that Captain Frostie's $13.00 lobster roll.
Not goin' back. (Even though our kid loves that whole "boat shaped restaurant thing.)
Overpriced IMHO , decent but not great. I got a sampler of all sorts of fried goodness. Shrimp, scallops ,clams, fish... It would have been better, but it was rushed and everything on the plate was soggy. Â Not what I expect when paying $23 for the plate. My wife ws happy with "the lazy man's lobster". Â We picked up a cheeseburger for my 2yr old. Â Dropped$95.00 on an average meal. Very average... Sam Adams summer was almost flat too...
Review Source:Went on Saturday, June 7th, 2008 at 5:30 PM. The restaurant was not busy when we arrived.
Service: The initial set-up was terrible. We sat for 10 minutes watching a half-dozen waitstaff sit around and BS with each other. We had to ask for bread, and for utensils, and for napkins, and then for a full set of utensils wrapped in a clean napkin. I didn't even realize that we didn't have napkins until after I started eating my chowder. But while the initial service (pre-waiter) was bad, our waiter (Terry) was excellent. The fact that we weren't set up properly wasn't his fault, but he made amends quickly.
Food: My wife had the chicken parm. She asked for the tomato sauce to be served on the side, and the sauce was served to her ice-cold from the fridge. She also said the pasta tasted "burnt".
I had the New England Clambake. The mussels were lukewarm, but other than that everything was very good. (The chowder seemed to be thickened with cornstarch. It was more gelatinous than creamy.)
Atmosphere: The restaurant is huge, and it looks like it's designed to serve in quantity rather than quality. It's also decorated like every other stereotypical seafood restaurant in New England, with the buoys and the fishing nets and the ships' wheels. (But I wouldn't have it any other way!)
There was also a loud argument between a couple of the employees that spilled out into the dining room, but that was taken care of almost as soon as it had started.
To be fair, we went early in the season and the summer waitstaff may not have jelled yet. Also, it's in a touristy area and the building itself is shaped like a giant boat, so I didn't have high expectations. I just wanted lobster, and was pleased with the lobster I received.
Price: $55 for two beers, the chicken parm, and the NE clambake ($30). I thought it was reasonable.
Located across the street from Captain Parker's Pub and its all-world chowder, Lobster Boat is an above-average seafood place with a strong chowder offering of its own.
Our Plan B after Captain Parker's had a long wait, we were able to get seated after about 20 minutes. Â The restaurant is very big - while I could fault the sacrificing of charm over commerce, our growling stomachs were just happy to get a table.
Our group all started off with the clam chowder which has won some local awards that I think Captain Parker's didn't compete in. Â The chowder was served in plastic bowls which felt a bit tacky. Â But the chowder itself was very good. Â Could've been a bit chunkier but blew away our lunchtime chowder (Baxter's Boathouse) and finished respectably to the next day's chowder at Captain Parker's.
An order of Ipswich Clam 'steamers' was enjoyed by our two steamer fans. Â It was my first time trying them and felt they were okay but not as satisfying as, say, steamed mussels.
Went with the Lobster Roll dinner which, at around $16, was definitely a bit cheaper than found in my native NYC.  The lobster roll didn't disappoint.  Nice big chunks of lobster served in a buttered hot dog roll with the right amount (almost none) of mayo.  Definitely recommend it even if it wasn't quite as memorable as my personal fave Pearl Oyster Bar in NYC (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/6dSiCqC9x51PZRMOvdQTpA#hrid:Z3O-u47elEOwI595SH_f_w">http://www.yelp.com/biz/…</a>)
The frozen daiquris were better than expected - especially the Banana.
Service wasn't very good. Â We had to ask for water numerous times. Â Drinks took longer than expected. Â Seems like they were understaffed.
Worth checking out for the chowder and lobster roll!
