BEST NACHOS-A must order-Be cautious to order an entree if you order the nacho's they are a meal for 2 to 3 people! Â
The shimp taco was good-not anything I would crave or order again-my husbands chicken sandwich was delicious! Â my daughters wings had great flavor-if you like hot-they have a definite kick!
My husband and I visited this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon after reading other Yelp reviews. The dining area is surprisingly spacious and I commend the owners for not crowding tables in the space. It was all very comfortable. The restrooms were clean, and that's ALWAYS a plus to me.
After reading the reviews about the Fried Oreo dessert, we decided to have it AS an appetizer along WTIH an appetizer. This seemed to please the chef as he came to our table and said so. The Fried Oreo's were delicious and decadent to say the least. We ordered the Bacon Wrapped Jalapenos as an appetizer. The combined ingredients of bacon, white cheeses and jalapenos are one of our favorites, generally. The Jalapenos were well presented in a bed of fresh slaw. The items were chargrilled. I am not a huge fan of char typically, especially if it's heavy. In this case, the char was so overpowering that you could not taste ANYthing else, including the bacon. I can't help it, but it tasted like it was cooked on a dirty grill.
I ordered the Fish Tacos with sauteed spinach for entree and my husband ordered the Fish Po'Boy with potato salad. It comes with two tacos so we traded a taco for 1/2 a sandwich so that we could share. The fish of the day was Mahi Mahi and thus the fish in our meals. We ordered the fish blackened. The tacos and Po'Boy were very tasty. There was slight char on the flour tortillas and this was much more acceptable and not overwhelming all of the other flavors. I preferred a softer bread for my Po'Boys compared to the crustier, more rustic bread in their sandwich. The flavor was delicious however and with a generous fish portion. My side of sauted spinach, which I was thrilled to see on the menu, was entirely too overwhelmed with garlic salt.
The overall experience on a Sunday afternoon was okay. I am glad to see a restaurant of this type in Tuscaloosa and feel certain that we'll visit again on another trip thru town. Leslie provided great service and kept our drinks full, which for me is 5 STAR! I would really give this place 3 1/2 stars and raise that to 4 stars if they didn't overwhelm subtle flavors with char and garlic.
They shared a new lunch menu with us that is a collection of really interesting tacos. They even have a Shrimp Grits Taco. I'd like to try that one day!
Tuscaloosa peeps need to get a heads up here...Ya have to wait an inordinately long time to get a seat at Cheddars...which is NOT even a decent place to eat, and Local Catch has been undiscovered by the population in general. (end of soapbox rant)
I've made 3 visits to Local Catch and all were really great. The atmosphere is simple, cool and comfortable. Service has been attentive and helpful, even when I took the kids in just for desert (more on THAT subject in a bit). But, if you read my reviews you know that at the end of the day the food has to be the star of the experience. Local Catch shines here. Fresh fish, prepared well and served with a great presentation and to top it all of delicious! I had the grilled fish tacos which featured Gulf of Mexico amberjack. They were excellent, grilled fish was cooked just right and the home made slaw in the tacos was a good compliment to the fish without overpowering it.
But, my dear peeps...listen carefully, if for nothing else go for THE dessert from Heaven...Fried Oreos!!! That's right, if you have never tried fried oreos you are missing out on one of life's great experiences. The serving comes with 5 cookies served hot over vanilla ice cream with chocolate drizzled over the top...Totally food porn and OFF THE CHARTS yummy!
Back into rant mode here, when you can walk right in and get a seat a at place this good there is something wrong...and it's NOT Local Catch that is wrong!
As the old tv commercial said "Try it, You'll like it" or maybe even love it!
First of all, This was the Monday night after A-game weekend so a lot of people were recovering and prepping for dead week on campus. That being said, I strolled in at 8:30 pm and there were two tables with patron and I chose to sit at the bar. Chloe was a great bartender and was very attentive. I chalk up her one mistake to the time of night and a case of the Mondays. She eagerly corrected my order once I realized the fish in my fish tacos was not fried, but rather blackened. The reason I could not notice this at first is because this place smothers their taco fillings with cabbage and tomato slaw. I had a side salad which was really just another couple spoonfuls of their pico tomato cubes and lettuce. It was by far the most boring plate of food presentation wise and from a creativity standpoint. It tasted good once you got beyond the mountain of slaw.
This place needs to implement a mix and match item on their menu so patrons can pick two or even three of their fantastic taco fillings. Apparently they pre-portion the taco fillings and that is why they cannot be mixed and matched. As an engineer I realized instantly that if you already portion per order of tacos (2) can;t you simply half that prepared portion and you would have enough for (1) taco. simply math people.
This restaurant is new and growing and I am sure things will change. However I cannot give the place a 5 star rating because they definitely need a better taco ratio.
Dessert was the most fantastic bit of southern glory I have had in years. Their fried oreos were just the right ratio of cookie to batter and the vanilla ice cream they came with helped me all but forget about the bland taco entree. Definitely come there for the fried oreos and a beer while watching a sports game. It is a divine experience.
YUMMMM! I am so excited to have a new amazing restaurant in town! The food is excellent, they have some house "white sauce" that is delicious. Their wine is great too, and the service was welcoming, relaxing, and hip. Definitely a place to go for dinner and drinks, casual and cool. My husband and I will visit frequently!
Review Source:This place is GREAT!! They literally just opened last week the inside is nice and pretty, our waitress was extremely attentive, had a great personality, and knew the menu and items really well. I had the fish tacos and I had the fish blackened (could be fried, grilled, or blackened) and they were phenomenal! The "special white sauce" is delicious. If you have a sweet tooth you HAVE to get their deep fried Oreos. A little pricey but worth it. Go after they get their liquor license (very soon) to try out their specialty cocktails!
