Yum! We enjoyed the fresh cocktails from the garden - our waitress was telling us how she goes out to the garden each week to decide what new drink she wants to roll out, prompting the two drinks we had - a blackberry gin drink and a stone fruit whiskey drink. Then we got the free cheddar biscuits from checking in on Yelp and HOLY MOLY they were SO GOOD. We got the pig pot appetizer which was kind of like....ham tuna salad in texture and it was so decadent and delicious and fatty. We also had the artichoke and as a big artichoke fan, I have to say it was a B+ and I'm a hard critic! It would have earned an A if it had been cooked a tiny bit longer, but other than that, it was heavenly. This is a top 3 artichoke for me and I order them....everywhere. And you know what? After the artichoke, the biscuits, and the ham thing, we were full! So we didn't even order entrees. We'll be back some day because this was really delicious.
The atmosphere here is super hip and relaxed and the outside is gorgeous. Definitely check this place out!
Wonderful service, ambiance & fresh, flavorful food & wine! My fiancé & I shared the hamburger, cooked medium rare. It was so juicy & flavorful - cooked to perfection. The size was large enough for us to share since we had a late lunch (we also enjoyed the cheddar biscuits we received complementary for checking in here). The ketchup had a really great smokey flavor & I liked the deli style mustard. Yum!!!!
Review Source:This is my "go-to" place in St. Helena as I've been here 3 times in the past 5 weeks. I cannot get enough of the amazing food. The outdoor patio is one of the most relaxing places (while still being downtown), with trellised gardens and ample shade for those really hot Napa Valley days. If it's your first time, you MUST start out with the mini ham sandwiches with Fresno pepper jelly made on their homemade biscuits. For meat lovers, there are plenty of choices including one of the best burgers in the Valley. The herb fried potatoes are a welcome departure from the fries one usually gets with a burger. You will find yourself eating every single one, they are that good. The burger is juicy, flavorful and well proportioned. This past visit I had the beef carpacico which is definitely one of the best I've had in a long time and rivals some of the best in any Italian restaurant. LMR also makes some great wines. My favorite for summer is the Sauv. Blanc, a light white wine that is well balanced and goes well with everything on the menu. They have a great cocktail menu as well which this time of year features a lot of peach drinks (however, the blackberry smash was awesome!). Farmstead is not to be missed if you are visiting the area. It's a great place for business lunches as well. I only wished I lived closer so that I could come for the family dinners during the week. When you go, take the S. Trail and cut over on Pope St. to avoid the construction on Hwy 29. On a good day, you can make it there from Napa in 20-25 minutes.
Review Source:Not just a meal but an experience, which is what I look for in dining.
A prior to the meal stroll in their beautiful gardens really puts the freshness of their food in perspective. Farm to the table literally. The eggs served are from the happy chickens just past the garden! They have a fresh farmers market for your take home veggies.
Cheddar biscuits to start thanks to my Yelp check in were exceptional. The Beet, Goat Cheese and Chimichuri Salad was beyond good and plenty for two. Loved the Brick Chicken with crisped skin, tender and juicy, nestled in amazing Rancho Gordo Heirloom Beans and veggies. Hubby loved his Kale Salad, lightly sautéed with crispy parmesan cheese chips.
The open immaculate kitchen lets you see how hard these line cooks work, piling out the food! Jesus, the lead line cook is fascinating to watch. Focused, exact, fast and a no nonsense chef. Somebody give that guy a raise, that guy has talent!
My new favorite place in Napa hands down.
Food:
Cheddar biscuits - Pretty good biscuits, not the best I've ever had
Caramelized beets with sky hill goat cheese crema, greens and chimichurri - The char on these beets was amazing, great flavors.
"Brick cooked" chicken with rancho gordo beans, greens and salsa verde - Perfectly cooked chicken. I loved the beans and greens underneath.
Wood grilled heritage pork chop with broccolini, jalapeño grits and apple-onion jam - Tender and juicy pork chop. The broccolini and grits were a bit underwhelming.
They offer a $5 corkage fee that gets donated to a charity, so bring your favorite bottle of wine! Also, check-in on Yelp to receive a free order of the cheddar biscuits! Farmstead is a really beautiful space to have a great meal.
My friend and I happened to stop here on our way to wine tasting in Napa. We were glad we did! The front of the restaurant can be a bit deceiving because you need to walk past a parking lot onto what looks like someone's farmhouse. But it's modern at the same time. Once inside the decor gives you this rustic yet modern/trendy feel. The menu offers a wide variety of small plates along with nice portions of meats. If you're a vegetarian, you might not want to come here. The buffalo head on the wall screams meat eaters paradise. We had the meatballs, carpaccio, and pulled pork sandwich. All AMAZING!!! Bookmark this when you're in town, love this place and I will surely come again!
Review Source:Really cool outside patio area. Nice atmosphere to have a drink and an appetizer.
I had some wine and the grilled artichoke there. The artichoke was really good. It had a great smokey flavor from the grill that was nicely offset by the sauce on top, a fresh shot of lemon. I would definitely head back.
My husband and I took our family here for dinner after an afternoon of wine tasting, and everyone agreed that the food was super fresh and tasty. I also love the vaulted ceilings and the homy yet casual-elegant feeling of the restaurant.
Apps:
Cheddar biscuits - Addicting, especially since they came warm to the table. Add on a bit of that apple butter, and it was a foregone conclusion that you would have trouble saving room for your meal.
Beef carpaccio - Soooo good. I would totally order this again.
Grilled artichokes - Good, but they weren't memorable.
Steak tartare - Good, but I wouldn't say this was memorable either. However, if you haven't had steak tartare before, it's a good place to try it.
Entrees:
Gnocchi with lamb ragu - Such comfort food. I could see myself being super happy with this on a cold winter's night.
Braised beef ribs - The ribs were cooked for a long time for them to be so tender. It was paired well with a corn bread pudding side and some veggies.
Fresh rainbow trout - This was really tasty! I love fish that is prepared well, and this is it.
I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to my friends as the food was stellar, and it doesn't break the bank.
The things I have beef with:
- I had checked in on Yelp to get free cheddar biscuits. We were still charged for them, even though they said it would be free.
- We had ordered a side dish of broccolini that never came. I'm not sure if it were on the bill or not (and sadly, when we walked away with the receipt, it wasn't itemized, so we couldn't check).
For my 100th Yelp review, I had to choose a special place - and it's Farmstead. Farmstead is exactly as it sounds - it's housed in a gorgeous barn with vaulted ceilings and exposed beams, an architectural feast for the eyes - and surrounded by a lush vegetable garden, courtyard, and large patio with an outdoor fireplace and bar. Â We came on an idyllic Napa morning, the air fresh and crisp, the vines and gardens verdant and redolent with their bounty. It felt like a Van Gogh painting dining outdoors there, all blues and golds and greens. Â But the sensory explosion didn't stop there, it continued when they served us tender and fragrant cheese biscuits, savory, rich ragu pasta, and out-of-this-world burgers made with grass-fed beef along with eggs fresh from their ranch. Â Even after this satiating meal, we headed to the wine room for wine and olive oil tasting and were deeply impressed by their offerings. We left with two bottles of wine and two bottles of olive oil, which we have been enjoying immensely, as it transports us right back to our very memorable experience here. Exceptional.
Review Source:The Restaurant is a great lunch spot.
The LMR Hotlink was excellent it came with blue cheese coleslaw and pickle & onion relish. Probably the best hot dog on earth.
The 12 hour pulled pork with creamy potato salad was mouth watering.
Everything is farm to table and the beef is all local. Loved this place. Make sure to order the honey biscuits to start!
They also have happy hour tasting!
I recently hosted my wedding reception at Farmstead and I cannot say enough about the beautiful & incredible experience!! Â I always knew that table settings & food/wine were top priorities for me in the wedding planning process and I have to say that Farmstead over exceeded my expectations! Â I have worked both in the retail industry (as a table setting buyer) and restaurant industry so I am extremely picky in both of these categories and Farmstead hit it out of the park! Â
The atmosphere & scene they set for our guests was just breathtaking. Â I can't tell you how many compliments I got on not only the venue, food, layout, and the service. Â I couldn't believe how many people came up to tell me after dinner how incredible the food & service was. Â It's such a compliment to Farmstead's management and team to hire such great employees!!
The event coordinators Elizabeth & Rebecca were incredible. Â They listened to every minor detail no matter how silly it may have seemed and embraced it with enthusiasm and executed my wildest dreams. Â I cannot say enough about this incredible experience and I hope anyone that is thinking of hosting here, DO IT! Â You won't regret it! Â
The value for what you get is also unbelievable. Â Many venues try to take advantage of the "W" word (aka Wedding) and Farmstead does not. Â They give you a champagne experience on a beer budget (ok maybe a high quality beer, but nonetheless) ;). Â I wish I could go on and on, but I hope readers get the point that it was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING from start to finish!
If you want downright comfort food, this is the spot for you. Ordered the ribs and the ribs at Rutherford grill put these to shame quite frankly, which I did not anticipate since they are all about their own cattle, farm to table concept, and the whole 9 yards at Long Meadow Ranch.
Regardless, a solid establishment and I would certainly come here again! I think next time I would get the juicy burger as Cherylynn describes. It looked a-mazing! Their cheesy biscuits are light and fluffy and a great addition.
Since they do their own wine they serve them in more generous portions as well.
Overall this is a fun place for groups for lunch or dinner. The outside area is more relaxed while the inside is more elegant but still warm and inviting. I'd probably come back for a fun meal.
This place was delicious. Â My party mentioned that we could easily eat here every day of our lives. Â The food is all locally produced and the dishes are great. Â I loved the freshly squeezed orange juice and the beef and steak were also amazing. Â I had the hash that used beets very well (I usually don't like beets). Â The eggs benedict had a unique hollandaise sauce too. Â Tasty simple innovations on good food with amazing meat and produce.
Review Source:After gorging ourselves on fried chicken at Addendum, we spent the rest of the day wine tasting. Needless to say, no one in our group was very excited to have another super heavy meal. Drawn by the rave reviews, we ended up at Farmstead and weren't disappointed. I had their rainbow trout with wild mushrooms and it was perfect; light and flavorful. Service was fantastic, probably one of the friendliest and happiest waiters I've ever had. I'd love to come back when my stomach is ready for some of their heavier options. The nearby grounds are really pretty too, perfect for walking off your meal.
Review Source:3.5 STARS
After eating a wallet raping, vegetable garden dinner at Meadowood, I couldn't wait to get my mouth on a big, deliciously thick and succulently juicy...BURGER.
If your mind was elsewhere, shame on you. ;)
With such stellar reviews, Farmstead seemed like a promising choice. Farmstead is like a one-stop shop in wine country. It's a beautiful 3-acre estate, winery, a farmer's market, and a restaurant all rolled into one. They even hold summer concerts and have film festivals which is very cool.
With a farm-to-table concept, Farmstead uses top-notch ingredients sourced locally and they produce their own eggs, veggies, fruits, honey, and olive oil. Even their beef comes from their own ranch. I also adored Farmstead's modern rustic country ambiance with cute rocking chairs out in the patio and an open kitchen. Unfortunately, the food wasn't well-executed on the day we went. It wasn't bad but just more of a disappointment.
While most restaurants have a separate lunch and dinner menu, Farmstead's has the same items for both with the same prices to match (entrees averaged at $24-26). Lunch for two was about $60 so this is definitely not a budget friendly place for lunch. And even though the only thing I had on my mind was a burger, it would have been nice to see brunch items on the menu offered on Saturdays and not just on Sundays. Just my two cents.
Thanks to Yelp, we received the Cheddar Biscuits w/ Honey Butter ($6) for free when checking in on Yelp (the Chinesey in my rejoiced): http://bit.ly/1a6cDh2. Think Red Lobster's infamous Cheddar Bay Biscuits without the hypertension. They however arrived lukewarm which sacrificed the texture and taste.
My LMR Cheeseburger w/ an egg ($15 +$3) satisfied my craving but was underwhelming for the price: http://bit.ly/12ght9G. Although the beef patty was perfectly cooked to a medium rare and was as juicy as it can be, the cheese wasn't melted and the bottom bun quickly became a wet sponge because the bun was not toasted enough: http://bit.ly/184cuxq. Personally, one of my biggest qualifiers for a solid burger is a nicely toasted bun to hold everything together. Most disappointingly, the egg was overcooked so no yolk porn. Didn't care for the herbed fried potatoes as they also arrived lukewarm. For a mean burger, my pick goes to Boon Fly Café in Napa (see pic: http://bit.ly/16jxbi8).
Mr. NSS ordered the much raved about Wood Grilled Pork Chop w/ Jalapeno Grits & Apple Onion Jam ($26): http://bit.ly/13G1sM5. A great mélange of savory sweet and spicy flavors, but the pork chop was a bit dry. I prefer pork cooked a medium-rare to a medium but this one was a medium-well to well-done.
Service definitely outshined the food. They were able to accommodate us for last minute lunch reservations (within 30 minutes of calling). The energetic staff was genuinely nice and attentive so I'm rounding up my rating. Food service was timely but again the food arrived lukewarm.
I'm hoping Farmstead was just having an off day because I would love to return for Sunday brunch and try their Smoked beef & pork hash or their Eggs benedict w/ house-smoked pork & tabasco hollandaise. Maybe by then they'll even have WHOOO HOOOO bottomless mimosas to liven things up there. On a second thought, the look on the other patrons' faces of sheer horror is probably why going bottomless is rare in wine country...
This place came recommended to us by a friend for lunch and boy we're we happy he did. Sat outside in the country chic outdoor patio and enjoyed these amazing farm to table dishes: steak carpaccio (local beef and best thing we had), oysters, eggs benedict, and the St Louis Ribs with blue cheese spicy slaw ( slaw was so good and so different we asked for the recipe).
Review Source:Dining here was one of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had.
We wanted to go for dinner the night before but didn't because it was so far from our hotel.
Drove by & decided to walk in & see if we could eat for lunch on a Friday.
Waked up & seats were available at their outdoor bar. It was a beautiful day. Sat right down...
Two bartenders helped us. Brittany & kayleen(sp?)...both were fabulous. Super friendly, helpful & knowledgeable.
We ordered the bisquits(you get 5 & honey butter)...holy crimoly...I wish I didn't have to share. I could've eaten all 5. So great. A perfect start!
Then the roasted beets salad. I won't give every ingredient but, omg, just delicious! Highly recommended!
We shared the pulled pork sandwich with potato salad, roast beef sandwich with blue cheese coleslaw & side of Mac & cheese. Literally everything was sooooo good. I'm not a super big eater & I was actually forcing myself to eat more because I didn't want to miss a bite...it was all amazing
Ok, now...the best part...
The server said we should get the chocolate cream pie...let me give you the best advice you're ever going to get...ORDER THAT! No matter what...even if you're so full you're going to burst...even if you think you don't want dessert...just order it. Best dessert I've ever had absolutely. I will never forget it
Everything about this place is amazing. I notice a lot in restaurants...I've been in the biz for 20 years...I'm very observant. Honestly, its like they do everything right.
Phenomenal!
Also $2 corkage...come on! How cool
Really enjoyed the place. After multiple recommendations by my sister & brother-in-law, we finally got to try it and was impressed!
PROS
- The food portions are more than enough.
- Dishes definitely taste more natural and well-concocted.
- The overall feel of the place is very Napa style.
- Great place for a wedding receptions have been here.
- It has a covered fountain in the back and open area so kids can run around
- Functional garden in the back with pathways.
- The cheese/cheddar biscuits are AMAZING. Must-have.
CONS
- Chairs could be more comfortable but doesn't ding my rating for the place as it's a personal preference.
- The baby back ribs could've been softer.
Overall, I'm looking forward to trying it again for the second time and expecting to be more impressed.
This is my second time dining at Farmstead. Â It is still amazing compare to my first time . Â Definitely make a reservation. Â It gets busy. Â
Food was amazing. Â I had the pulled pork sandwich. Â The meat was tender. Â I would recommend the pork chop also. Â It is moist and tender. Â You won't go wrong with any choices on the menu.
Amazing place, and the food was the balls.
Granted we had a great weather day, but everything about our lunch was excellent.
From the delicious roast beef sandwich to the unique kale and fluffy biscuits I can't recommend Farmstead highly enough.
Oh, and $1 corkage. As if you needed a reason to drink more in Napa.
If I could give it 6 stars I would. I was here a few weekends ago- their staff is fabulous, their food is fabulous and though we did not do wine tasting that day - I am set up for a group tasting for tomorrow and really looking fwd to it
What do I say- they took care of my last minute change requests, they were wonderful. Rebecca Abbey went out of her way to take care of things for me. Thank you Rebecca- I am so impressed and I was already a fan of the restaurant. This place is truly amazing. I will provide an update after the event
When people ask me about restaurants in wine country, this would be the first place I recommend. Â First off, the grounds are beautiful. Â Sit outside if possible. Â We sat on the patio with filtered sunlight. Â I was sitting right next to an apple vine that was growing actual live apples, very cool I thought.
Food was incredible. Â We started with the "Potted" Pig, a must for pork enthusiasts. Â The pork fat layer on top was super decadent. Â For our main, we shared the grilled pork chop, which was super awesome, cooked perfectly. Â
After you finish eating, go next door to the winery tasting room and try some of their wines and olive oil, which are also great. Â
A must visit.
I can't add much to the other positive reviews. Our waitress Sarah, and the other servers who helped us were all attentive w/out being annoying. Sign up for the yelp app to get a free order of the yummy cheese biscuits.
The hamburger, served with amazing fried potatoes is a serious contender for best burger ever. Two of us shared it, a salad, and the biscuits, and were stuffed.
Too bad, because we had no room for dessert!
We initially came here for dinner, but made a brief detour to their tasting room. Between perusing the unique jewelry & the gourmet food items for sale & trying their yummy jammy 2008 Cabernet, this was definitely worthwhile.
The outside patio/bar area with fireplace made me wish it wasn't so balmy out. Â What a great place to cozy up and hang out! Â But our group was here for dinner, so we walked in and were happily seated near the half open kitchen.
Thanks to the Yelp app, the biscuits were free (with check-in) - and they started off a great meal:
Cheddar Biscuits - warm, crispy-edged, soft and bready in the middle, served with honey butter, these were SO GOOD!
Caramelized Beets - sweet beets, lightly blackened to caramelization and only lightly seasoned, topped with fresh and bitter arugula, over a smear of goat cheese crema. Â Simple and delicious!
Gnocchi - with pan-fried edges, these gnocchi were made vegetarian with mushrooms, onions, sage and parmesan. OMG SO GOOD!
Grilled Trout - whole, deboned, topped with wild mushrooms, fennel, and toasted almonds, and a bacon vinaigrette. Â Delicious!
Wild Salmon - served with fingerling potatoes and shaved asparagus. Â Another simply prepared yet delicious dish.
Pork Chop - a big, thick chop served with dark green broccolini and jalapeno grits. Â I didn't try this one but it looked juicy!
Lemon Poundcake - griddled til crispy on all sides, this warm cake was SO yummy caramelized with a citrus marmalade and vanilla ice cream!
Strawberry Shortcake - gorgeous fresh strawberries, macerated in a lemony sugary syrup, served over a dense pound cake and topped with fresh whipped cream. Â Omg SO GOOD!
This carb avoider thoroughly enjoyed every damn morsel of carbs in this meal. Â
And yes, I'd totally do it again.
They have a charming, beautiful grounds, outstanding seasonal farm to table food.
We mentioned Yelp check in and they gave us complimentary wonderful cheddar biscuits with honey butter (best biscuit and I hate biscuit in general!). The pork chop was thick, juicy and very smooth. It was not dry at all, simply perfect. The Ribs however, was very burnt and dry. Mac n cheese was tasteless and had card box feeling. The gnocchi ragu was not soft or chewy enough, although the Ragu sauce was fabulous, simmered for hours and you can tell. My friend said their Red Zinfandel wine was really good. I really loved the ambiance, decor and the surrounding. We had fun tossing the horse ring on the side of the restaurant ground. Would definitely go back and try their meatball appetizer and brick chicken next time.
I just got back from attending a wedding at the Farmstead (as the locals call it...apparently?)
Beautiful! The kind of grassy lawn where you can't help but take your shoes off and run around.
Delicious food! Especially this mushroom risotto stuff - yum! And we ate family style at a wedding, which can be very difficult to get right, but these guys did - boy did they! Yum!
Great customer service! Â From the people catering the reception on the lawn to the waiters and bartenders in the restaurant, everyone was happy to be there, delightful, and eagerly helpful.
Delicious, hearthy, fresh food!
My top recommendation is the meatballs with root vegetables and tomato marmalade. It comes with 3 meatballs (kind of weird number since it's hard to split), and they're some of the most amazing meatballs I've ever had. The root vegetables add aromatics to the dish and the tomato marmalade glaze offers a touch of acidity and sweetness to the meat. I couldn't figure it out, but the dish was packed with umami flavor. It was so delicious and satisfying!
The gnocchi with ragu was amazing as well. The best part was the tomato sauce. It was so tomato-y and savory, but light at the same time. i definitely recommend adding a fried farm egg on top (even though $3 for an egg is practically highway robbery).
I was slightly disappointed by the short rib, which was the cut of the day. The cut of short rib I had had a thick chunk of fat on one side, and was very lean on the other. I don't mind fat, but I like it to be more evenly distributed. The meat was cooked well and was savory and comforting. What I didn't like was the accompaniment of kale and turnip, which stuck out like a sore thumb on the plate. I didn't understand what their role was. Didn't add to flavor or texture. It was just weird.
If you're looking for a comforting hearty meal with really fresh ingredients, Farmstead is a good bet!
PS: Check in for free cheddar biscuits!
It's a good place - not a spectacular one. The food is definitely on the heavy side. Typical farm to table concept. I would recommend sharing as the portions are pretty substantial.
We ordered:
1) cheddar biscuit (comes with 6 biscuits): order this. Very tasty but rich.
2) Gnocchi: fresh tasting. Tomato sauce was a nice coat with the gnocchi. I was full after 4 bites of gnocchi. Portion is big - even for 4 people.
3) Pulled-pork sandwich: Â Good but a little dry.
4) Beet salad: Very good. I'm not a beet person but the shallots with the sautéed beets in the salad were very tasty! We finished this off fast.
5) Chili: It's ok. Nothing special. It tastes like chili.
6) Roasted chicken: It's ok. Slightly dry. Nothing spectacular.
7) St. Louis ribs: Â I have mixed feelings on this dish. Certain parts of the ribs were moist and full of flavor while other parts were just dry and chewy. I had to order extra sauce for the ribs and the pulled pork sandwich. Beware: Â The blue cheese cole slaw on the side was intense especially for the non-cheese lovers.
8) Meatballs: Â These were. good. Order this.
Overall, it was an ok place. Its probably a better place for lunch - not dinner. The food itself was not impressive.
The food at the restaurant: 4 stars
The winery staff: 4 stars
The event manager: 2 stars
We were considering this place as a wedding venue. It was almost impossible to get hold of the event manager. I was lucky enough to get her on the phone one day and she told me to have a self guided tour since she wasn't gonna be available the day we were in town. She was going to send us information which she never followed up with. We got to the restaurant and found out that she was actually there that day. The hostess said she would call the event manager so we could talk to her. The lady again never showed up. We had some lunch there and walked over to the winery. Nice food and friendly staff at the winery. But I will not recommend this place for any events since the event manager here is just unprofessional.
Farmstead is so yummy! Â I checked in on Yelp and they gave me free cheddar biscuits :). Â They were fantastic. Â Props to Farmstead for loving Yelpers!
For my meal I had the gnocchi with meat ragu sauce. Â I thought it was amazing! Â The gnocchi was cooked perfectly and I thought the sauce was delicious as well. Â I also had a bite of the chocolate pie for dessert. Â Yummy!!
Overall - great place, great atmosphere, would definitely return!
Farmstead was really good! I had the pork chop and it was really good. Which is probably odd to hear me say because I'm just not a big fan of pork.
Wood grilled heritage pork chop w/ broccolini, jalapeño grits, & apple-onion jam. It just sounded really amazing and it really did taste that way too!
A friend of mine had the "brick cooked" chicken w/ ranchero gordo beans, greens and salsa verde. That chicken was really tender and juicy. The meat fell off the bone - good!
The only thing I might not recommend is their "Potted" pig w/ homemade mustard and toast. Which pretty much is a jar of pork shoulder blended with pork belly that you smear onto a crostini toast. PS. That jar was at least 1/3 fat at the top... Kind of unappealing...
