What the hell, Loophole? I get it, you wanted to be cool and updated. I was so down for it, especially considering how often you smelled like rotten eggs. I knew some of your menu was going to change, and my beloved chicken tenders and the awesome nachos were probably not going to make the cut....but 5.99 for 7 onion rings that weren't even that astounding? 4 lukewarm Shiners that were supposed to be the special for that night? The weird TGI Friday's vibe? Ugh. If you took a picture of the beer board and the wall and that little sitting area, I could totally see it being a cool gastropub-type place. But then you turn around, and see fug lamps and UGH LOOPHOLE I AM GETTING MORE AND MORE ANGRY WHILE WRITING THIS.
I really, really hope that I what I experienced was just opening issues. Food is wicked overpriced and that weird faux hip kind of food. Bacon jam and mozzarella does not make a burger worth 7.99+. Potato chips, hot DAWGs, blah blah blah. Fix yourself, before you wreck yourself.
The new Loophole seems to think it's on McKinney Ave. in Dallas. Â
While the old Loophole was quaint and divey as Denton bars should be, I was excited about the redesign. The old food and drink selection left some to be desired, but it was still a fun and welcoming place to hang out. Â I was expecting an improvement in this redesign, but it just seems like it was all just a sneaky way to make people think their drinks are now worth so much more.
In addition to the beers being literally double the price you can get them at other bars in Denton, I'm not convinced my margarita wasn't a virgin margarita. I asked to sample a beer and was told they are now charging for beer samples. Seriously, Loophole, this is Denton. Â
And faux destruction on what was once beautiful exposed brick?  Gross. In the name of attempting-to-look-like-a-dive-bar, there are now huge chunks of concrete spackle  that are clearly not covering any sort of imperfection. Seems what was once a Denton gem is ruined.  And it's still smokey as ever. Super sad about the fact that The Loophole is now a bar I have no interest in visiting again.
Went to Denton a couple weeks ago for a wedding and was not sure what to expect. When we got in we decided to go watch the UT/AM game and grab a bite to eat, luckily we found Loop Hole and grabbed a table big enough for all of us right in front of the tv.
The wait staff was nice, the food was pretty good for a bar (especially the Fried Pickles), and the atmosphere was very 'pub' like. The best part about it was that the drinks were SO cheap!
Oh, and the next day my friend wanted to watch the soccer game and Loop Hole happened to be the only bar in the city playing it-totally made his day:)
Oh Denton... So MANY memories, both fond and errrr not so fond. Something about the weather getting cooler makes my mind always travel to "those old Denton roads."
The Loophole is one of my faves in Dtown. My bestie and I used to come here all the time, and often think about traveling hours just for the cold beer, burgers and appetizers. Oh that and the feeling of being 21 again. This place is totally laid back with cool waiters and an even cooler chef. "Cool" meaning you make some gnarly food, man.
I have tried most of the menu and everything is delish, but here are my faves. (Oh and ladies and gentlemen-- don't come here on a diet. if you're looking for a salad, look somewhere else. They have them here, but trust me, you'll want to eat here on your cheat days.)
Ahem:
Fried mushrooms
Mushroom-Swiss burger
Chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes (including the skin)
Misdemeanor nachos
The Turkey Draw
This spot makes a great casual date spot, a cool place for friends to hang over a couple (or more) beers and a seriously fun time with whoever whenever. Go to the Denton Square next time you are in town. And don't forget to visit the Candy Shop too. Their truffles and Snickerdoodle coffee are the bomb-diggity.
