Chopped lettuce and one slice of tomatoes are considered toppings for a greyish frozen burger patty. I wanted the buffalo but they were out, didn't they realize it was a sunday just before lunch rush that practically filled the place before we left. Steak fries that came from a frozen bag. Completely unimpressed. Service is good. The place is cool. But overpriced for the quality of food. A cool place to stop for a drink but I'd never eat there again.

We stopped here for lunch during a Sunday outing. The parking lot was full of motorcycles, which usually indicates a good cafe. Well, not this one.  We had the WORST food I have ever been served anywhere - and it wasn't cheap. But it was truly awful. I ordered what was described as an open face burger, but it arrived smothered in some kind of sauce? Gravy? Maybe it was to hide the disgusting gray color of the hamburger patty.  The fries didn't escape the gloppy sauce either, so the whole meal was inedible. I had lost my appetite anyway.

My boyfriend ordered a 1/3 lb. buffalo burger. He got a square patty that made McDonald's look big!  It was burned on one side and gray on the other.
His fries were stone cold. It took a good 30. I jets to g

Where else can you get a mohito where the bar tender hand  picks the mint out of the back garden?? There are bear skins, elk heads and old guns. One might be lead to believe this is just another tourist trap. But I digress, this is the real deal. After a day of walking through the hills of Jemez you may think this is the last bastion of civilization. And it is. You feel like an original cowboy trying to get somewhere and needing a home. You will find others like you. Cozz they know. I m not sure if we were starving but god damn that food was good. And the cheque left room to show our gratitude.

i've come here several times since that wonderful first meal, and i ended up taking off stars due to inconsistent food + service. sometimes it's great, sometimes it's not. for example, tonight our server got our order wrong. when i told her, she blamed it on the kitchen and walked away. yes, she looked busy and stressed out, but- no apology??? 10 minutes later, i caught her eye and told her again that our order was wrong. she said, "i know, what do you want me to do about it?" i asked for a free bowl of stew; she came back with a small cup of stew. not a pleasant dining experience at all. unfortunately, the other restaurants were closed (sunday night), so we didn't have other options, which means we'll probably end up coming back here again the next time we're in town. just be prepared for iffy service.

I am a local in jemez springs. No one eats here. We all eat at hwy 4 coffee or at home. Truly this place is horrid. Don't waste your money.

This is the (only) place to be in Jemez Springs! I've been here twice and I have mixed feelings about the place. Oddly enough, the first two times I can in I only ordered coffee To Go because I couldn't get to a grocery store to buy coffee for my USFS bunk house. Rio Rancho is 45 min away--one way. And, to my surprise, the crew gave me my coffees for FREE and asked me to come in and order food sometime.

So, on Memorial Day, I showed up by myself about an hour before close by myself and the place was practically dead. The holiday rush was over. I sat on the patio. I was surprised by how small the menu was, but ordered the veggie burrito because of all the items on the menu, it seemed the most tasty.

After eating the bean and veggie burrito, I asked for the menu so I could order dessert. Hell, if you're gonna eat alone you may as well eat dessert!!!! My server brought me a menu, but this time, it was a huge menu. I asked her why she had given me a short menu the first time and she replied, "Well, we were busy." WTH? This is the SERVICE INDUSTRY. I would have ordered something else had I gotten the full menu, and, therefore, ironically, her tip would have been higher. I felt shorted.

I've been back twice: once for dessert-only and once for beer and appetizer-only. Well, the service was slow. I've had to wait to get refills, more drinks, more food, and just plain service in general. Apparently, sometimes, servers forget you're on the patio.

The food is pretty good but not great. However, you're not gonna find anything better or nearly as good here in the Jemez canyon. If you're already here, I suggest Los Ojos. If you're trying to impress a hot date with superb cuisine and a dining experience, stay in Santa Fe or Albuquerque. This place only gets 2 to 3 stars on any given day, depending upon the server and the occupancy. The appetizers and desserts are just OK. Therefore, it's over priced. But then there's all the import/shipping Los Ojos has to pay for...

Los Ojos has character, it's a biker bar so be ready for the worse at times. My first time going there, worst service ever. Second time, best service. I love it because the atmosphere is very cowboy-ish. Taxidermy animals, drunkards, banjos, piano, pool table, a small stage, and a local feeling. The food is a hit or miss, haven't figured out what to order that will be consistently good. Although cool place for a summer beer or just an adventurous lunch or dinner.

Love this place. Best green chile cheeseburgers! So fun just to look around at everything they have on the walls. Staff is very friendly. Great service. Highly recommended.

We came in here after lunch across the street. It just had this mystique to it, an allure ... we couldn't resist. And being that it's literally just a walk across a two-lane road to get in, we figured "why not?"

This is an old place, and full of character. There are numerous hunting trophies mounted all over the place, and the bar itself has been carved and scratched on more than once. You're getting a taste of local flavor when you belly up. There's a buffet on Sunday, and a restaurant seating area, but I stick to the bar area.

Decent prices on drinks, and friendly service. You can get beers to go since this is also a package liquor store. Strong Blood Mary!

Los Ojos - Best Biker Bar ever! This is the best place to eat in Jemez if you love taxidermy animals, bikers, banjos, cowboys (yum), drinks, and local bands!  I love all of the above, so I may be biased.  If you are a vegan-PETA person, this may not be the joint that gets your heart a jumpin'!  Just a little FYI.

So you find yourself going to Jemez Springs or to tour the Jemez Pueblo for a day.  Where are you going to eat?  There are only about 2-3 choices in Jemez itself, unless I overlooked something.  There are two places across the street from each other, one is a soda shop type place with VERY GOOD apple pie and ice cream.  The other is Los Ojos.

I have eaten there on a handful of occasions.  The first time with a group of gal pals on a fishing trip.  Fenton Lake is fun fishing, by the way.  We stopped at Los Ojos after a long day in the sun and were able to sit together (about 6 of us) easily and with great service.  The place has a rustic charm.  Think about when you go to Frontier Land in Disneyland.  Like Bear Country meets the TV series Deadwood.  Fabulous!  We sat in the front room so missed out on the main dining room.  The front room is sparse, you see a lot of people coming in and out, picking up to go orders and the salad bar is there I think.  The walls are wood, there are pictures of the old west on the walls and the food was good - of course we were starving having only caught like three tiny trout for lunch.  We ate burgers, steaks, etc.  All very good.  The drinks were flowing and the bar makes about anything you want.  Just don't order a Cosmo! haha

Two other times I've been there were great.  We sat in the main dining room - full of fun.  Eye candy includes occasional bands, the locals, and the taxidermy animals watching you.  Very charming and you feel like you are in another world.  There are a couple of TVs as well, so people can watch the games.  The food was okay, the burgers are good.  A friend ordered a salad - well who would order a salad here?  Anyway she did not like it much, of course.  We went there in the evening too.  The dining room was FULL.  On weekends it may or may not be full, but this was Fourth of July weekend.  There are two other dining options - outdoor upstairs and downstairs patios.  It's nice and a great place to people watch.  The stairs going up are narrow and a bit scary.  Old people - watch your step!

We sat on the downstairs outside patio.  It was nice but right at the dirt parking lot, so a bit dusty.  Once in a while you hear the roar of passing vehicles, but a trip to Los Ojos is worthless unless you get a bit of dust on you.  We had nachos, other appetizers and drinks.  It was a fun, colorful, warm summer evening.  Until the skeeters came biting!

My boyfriend and I figured out quickly that it was slim pickins  in this area for restaurants and bars but thankfully Los Ojos was here to help.  We ate here twice while we were in Jemez Springs.

The atmosphere is awesome.  It's southwestern saloon with awesome touches throughout.  The locals were very friendly each time we were in and the first night they were having an open mic night.  It was fun to listen to the local talent and kick back with some brews.

The food was solid.  The enchiladas were very good and the red chili was excellent.  My boyfriend got a green chili cheeseburger here that was fantastic.  Mmmm, mmmm.  Southwest, I miss you and your chili smothered food so very much.

The service was the weakest link here.  We had a waitress the first night who was slow and not friendly at all.  The bartender was pretty cool and chatted us up a bit when we first came in.  The second meal we had here the service was much better.  He kept our drinks filled and checked on us a lot.

Bottom line:  Thankfully this place exists.  It's a great local watering hole and I definitely recommend it to anyone staying in the area.

The Los Ojos Restaurant and Saloon was bustling and it had lots more character than I thought it would have. The walls were plastered with I wasn't thrilled with their eponymous house special, but I like to remain optimistic. I'm sure there's something else on the menu that will rock my socks. The chile relleno (which I had a bite of) was pretty tasty, nicely breaded and spicy.

UPDATE 7/27/11: Okay, found those things that rocked my socks:
    1) Chicken enchiladas.
    2) The Jemez Burger.
    3) Wednesday night BBQ ribs. OOH! I could almost just give this place five stars alone for the ribs.

This place is awesome. Thanks for being part of my summer in the Jemez!

This is the place to be.  I give the place a high rating based largely on the atmosphere.  When I ate there, wether it was Saturday night prime rib or Sunday Brunch I was always satisfied.  BUT it was the friends I made there that made all the stars shine in the ratings. Plus they have cutthroat porter on tap, that made my night.

If you're a city slicker, you probably haven't been to a place like this before. At first glance, the locals with their plaid shirts, cigarettes, and pickup trucks seem a bit scary. But not to worry, the live and let live motto applies here. We happened to have been lucky enough to have hit Los Ojos on talent night and witnessed a bunch of baby boomer locals singing covers of 70s classic rock songs. The music coupled with a few mixed drinks and a green chili cheeseburger made for a fun, memorable night.

I am probably going to anger some locals and New Mexico cognoscenti by adding this listing to Yelp, but our stop in here for lunch while driving in the area ended up being one of the highlights of our 10-day trip in New Mexico.  If you are making the beautiful drive along NM 4 you really should plan to stop here for lunch.

I am nearing 50 years old and I think I had the best bloody mary I have ever had in my life here, and the bartender didn't pour it out of a mix, he mixed it up right in front of me.  The Los Ojos special, and open-faced burger smothered in chile was excellent, and the ambiance and attitude of the staff was an unending delight.

I highly recommend this place. I hope they don't hate me for blowing the lid off this secret.
