Los Pepes Mexican Grill & Bar

This is difficult for me. We've been coming here quite often for take out over the last 1+ years. We noticed the last few months that the quality and any special instructions (all beans, no rice) was lacking. I'm giving this a 1 star because I DID call and talk with a woman/manager but felt I was just put off.  The chile relleno was the WORST!  omg... The taste, texture, appearance, etc. The crunchy (soggy) taco was just thrown in the one big mess of relleno, beans AND RICE and it didn't look eatable. The burrito was just o.k.
So I took the time to call the restaurant to just make them aware of the obvious downfall in their quality the last few months. "Nothing has changed. We make it exactly the same. If you want something special you have to ask. If you want your taco separate, you have to ask."  (oh, like when we ask for all beans and we still get beans and rice?)
Anyway, I would never write such a scathing review without calling the restaurant first in hopes of some glimmer of hope and redemption on their part.  Nope, I think their original 2 stars turned into 1 because of my conversation with them.
OK... back to my original favorite.... Las Quesalas Cafe in PD on Hwy 111.

Good food, just the service is a little slow. The spinach enchilada is great!

I'm always skeptical of strip mall restaraunts, and rightly so in this case. You can do better than this with all of the other Mexican places so ubiquitous in the valley.

The carnitas were way too greasy, not in a good way at all. The next meal I ordered (shoulda never came back), was a torta, a torta with a slice of good old processed American cheese on top. WTF? Plus I thought the food came out way too fast. Better than way to slow, but made me wonder why. Then the waitress wasn't really all that on top of anything either, but we got by. Probably would avoid next time.
