Los Portales

Great authentic food. Friendly fast service with right sized portions.

My wife and I went to college just down the road at LC. Between dates with her, outings with friends and lunch by myself, I ate here about once a week for five years. We have since moved to Denver, and have yet to find Mexican food anywhere near as good. Whenever we go back to Pineville, our friends there know that we will all be getting together at Los Portales at least once.

LP has great chips and salsa, and excellent nachos, fajitas and enchiladas. I've never had anything there that I actually disliked; but where they really shine is their queso and tacos. LP uses white cheese (not sure exactly what type) on most of their dishes, and it makes all the difference in the world. I've never had better queso or beef tacos anywhere.

This is also the only restaurant in town that makes sweet tea as good as my mom's. Combine all of that with an excellent wait staff, a great environment and very reasonable prices and you have a restaurant that we'll be visiting for a very long time. I just wished they would open one in Denver.
