Mission: Friday at 1pm find a place to deliver lasagna and has salad.
Mission accomplished!
Great salad, very hearty, although this location doesn't have chicken. (other locations do)
Tried the Gluten free pizza, only offered in 9" which was ok. Â but my husband is not a fan of thick crusts, but enjoyed the pizza.
Lasagna = hearty, well balanced perfect portion, with a nice tangy marinara sauce.
Best part: when I called the driver answered the phone, he asked me if I wanted to get the same thing I ordered before!! How awesome is that? I ordered something different, but I love that they remember what I ordered before.
We tipped well, the driver mentioned someone actually made him wait at the mall for 15 minutes and NEVER even tipped him. I'm happy we could do the right thing, since the drivers work for tips and gas is so expensive!
We will be ordering from them again, may even ask for the same driver. Â and even just maybe someday they'll get grilled chicken!
This is the place for deep dish! Â All others are imitators! Â I'm really a thin crust guy, but whenever I get a taste for deep dish I call Lou's. Â Not a huge fan of their thin crust, but love the deep dish. Â Â The "buttery crust" option is the way to go! Â Love the taste of the sausage and how it blends so nicely with the tangy red sauce on the pizza. Â For desert, try some of Lou's Italian Ice, which is available in Lemon or Strawberry. Â Very Good.
Review Source:Whenever out-of-towners come to visit and they demand that I feed them deep dish pizza. I roll my eyes, because deep down, I do not love deep dish and Chicago has so many other good foods to offer (I know, I know, I'm a disgrace to being a Chicagoan). HOWEVER, out of all the deep dish places, my fave is Lou Malnati's. Something about their delicious crust. I suggest you eat at one of their actual sit-down locations for maximum enjoyment, but if you live way up in the boonies like this one here, these carryout/delivery only locations will suffice.
I could tell you the history of the wars between the Chicago deep dish founders and how they all disbanded to start their own versions (i.e. Giordano's, Gino's East, Unos. Then Pizano's, Pequod's, Burt's Place), but all you need to know is that you should go to Lou Malnati's and get the Lou w/ Butter Crust. Â If you must have meat, then get the Chicago Classic (it's got sausage).
Secret Tip: since this particular location is only carryout/delivery, request it to be well done so that the crust doesn't get all soggy by the time you get it home.
For me, a native Chicagoan, Lou's and Gino's East are tied for #1 in the entire area. Â To me, the difference is in the crust. Â Gino's East has a little bit of Corn Meal in the crust, and Lou's does not. Â Other than that, I believe the pizza's to be very similar. Â Oh, by the by, the signature chopped salad is pretty darn good too.
Review Source:Due to issues my son had with Lou's I haven't eaten there since I began yelping. My son would dry heave looking at stuffed pizza, he didn't like the look of the sauce on top. Now that he is a little older, it isn't a problem so I ordered me a nice stuffed spinach and sausage pie. I gotta say, it is still one of my favorites around. The cheese is really good and the sauce is as close to perfect as I could imagine. I'm happy to report the sausage is awesome as well. Â The crust is perfect, especially around the edges, where it is nice and thin. Gotta say, it's been too long Lou, what a parent will do for his son you just can't explain. This location is a carry out window by the way, so plan accordingly.
Review Source:Lou's is the best Pizza in Chicago. Â Even though I grew up eating thin crust pizza at places like Manzo's and Armand's and I didn't have a Lou's near me when I was a kid--they won me over as an adult. Â When this place opened near me a few years ago I had to try it to see what everyone was talking about. Â Once I tasted it I understood. Â I've eaten at many Lou's locations since, but I have to say--even though this location is only carry out it is superior to all the other Lou's I've eaten at. Â What the HELL is with that crust? Â How do they DO that? Â I'm grateful to have this LOU's in my back yard. Â It is THEE place we go for carryout pizza.
