I will admit, the first time I went with my best friend, a fellow wine drinker, we had great food and good wine, but we were really put off when one of the owners stopped to fawn all over the man at the table sitting next to us (with whom we happened to be having a conversation at the time) and completely ignored us. I mean, we're two women in our 20's which you would assume would be the target demo for a place like this. Not that we wanted to be fawned over, we're not high maintenance, but it was very deliberate, even the guy he was talking to thought ti was awkward. We had a good enough experience to give it a second shot and have had some hits and some misses.
All of the servers I have had are very good, they actually know some things about wine and can make good suggetsions. It just seems like maybe they don't handle being super busy very well, I went on another occasion and sat for a good 20 minutes before someone grabbed our drink order...they were very apologetic and bought the first round, and free wine always puts me in a better mood, so all was forgotten.
The menu has some different selections than what you might find somewhere else. My absolute favorite was the Emily's Harvest Salad. I really appreciate everything gluten free being labeled clearly on the menu, it takes a lot of the guesswork out of things for me.
I would defintiely suggest it for a girl's night or happy hour, they particpate in PinPoint and offer a buy one/get one entree deal so if you wanted to try it you could do so less expensively.
I'm torn with this place, I liked it, but not enough that I would go back any time soon.
After reading other's reviews I completely agree with them, to sum it up: Â Average food, FAST order turnout, slow with the drinks, and hard on the wallet.
The 4 Pork Gnocchi was very good, but the reccomended Lobster Poutine was odd, and sitting on the patio the little flies swarmed us. Â As they hovered over the poutine, it gave me an ill feeling.... granted I'm not a huge poutine fan, I think I would have enjoyed another appetizer more.
I don't venture out to West O much for dining, and I'm glad I tried this place, but the clientele wasn't exactly my cup of tea either....Plenty of designer bags, expensive cars and 'surprised' faces...*cough* Botox. Â Oh and I'm really glad I left my kid at home with a sitter so I could listen to your kids be obnoxious! Â You know what? Â Maybe I don't like this place as much as I thought....atmosphere is everything!
The long and short of it. Â This place will keep being successful, but it's not the greatest. Â Like my review of J. Coco, some people think it's amazing, so it will stay popular, but there are way better (cheaper) places to eat and drink wine in Omaha.
Lots of wine, but has a very loud atmosphere and mediocre food for the price.
I loved the concept of this place, and had been looking forward to visiting here, but after one visit I am not sure if I need to go again. Â The wine variety was nice, and I do like that you can get a selection of wine on tap and order a carafe instead of a full bottle. Â But there is no beers on tap, only bottled, which seemed a little odd for the caliber of bar they seemed to be providing.
Friday dinner rush was in full swing when we got there, and the place was packed. Â A table wasn't hard to come by but drinks were another 15-20 minutes. Â The fritto misto appetizer had indistinguishable vegetables that mostly tasted of batter, with a decent alioi (more garlic the habenero) and tomato sauce. Â Entrees for everyone were OK but not great, tried out the moules frites (decent mussels, somewhat mushy overly flavored fries), chef's daily burger (barbecue, bourbon, bacon and everything covered the taste of the meat), Louie's wedge salad with shrimp (just a wedge, dressing and salad shrimp), porchetta (moist, well done pork, didn't really need the sauce) and the deburgo. Â
The service was fine, the food was delivered in a good time period and the water was refilled often, but I felt rushed and like I was being upselled on everything I ordered. Â I understand that that upselling is necessary but it felt very clinical how it was done, and I would have appreciated it being presented in a more personable way.
Not a place that is easy to chat with friends, but the patio is quieter if lacking in view, unless you like your views of west Omaha parking lots.
Actually, my rating should be 3 and 1/2 stars. Good notes? Â The service is professional and attentive, the food better than I expected, and a very good array of beer, wine and drink choices. We loved two of the flatbreads, pork and chicken, the gazpacho is top tier, and the meats and sandwiches are excellent as well. Â We also liked the choices of good and very reasonably priced South American wines (I recommend the Torrontes on a hot summer evening). Â The downside? Â The place is incredibly nosy--even when 1/3 or less full, we really had to strain for conversation. And $9.50 for a Buffalo Trace bourbon on the rocks. Â Really? Â Nevertheless, and despite it being a chain (albeit a small chain-3 locations), we will definitely be back.
Review Source:Have tried Louie's three times now. 0-3. Twice was for dinner. My wife had soggy vegetables and quinoa in the ratatouille dish. My jerk chicken had little flavor, just lots of heat. Our meals came out 5 minutes after we ordered (never a good sign). Our waitress was very nice and offered to remove my wife's meal from our ticket. My previous experience was no better with my son. Beyond the decent Mac and Cheese, all was below average. I guess this will have to be a drinking place only. That being said, I hope they improve their wine specials and list. The atmosphere is different each time I've been there and I don't think they've figured it out yet. I'm rooting for them. Can only drink so much wine at Brix.
Review Source:I hesitated to go here after seeing the first (and only) review and am glad we took a chance. Â This is a fun place and we will definitely be back. Â My husband and I don't know much about wine except that we enjoy drinking it so I can't speak to the quality of the wine list but there are many options plus specials on the giant chalk board. Â We went with a special after speaking with the waitress and it was yummy. Â We loved the Moules Frites app - the mussels were cooked perfectly. Â The main courses can best be described as rustic, at least the ones we got. Â My husband had the Braised Beef Short Ribs and the only bad thing was that he ate it all before I could steal a sample. Â I had the Porchetta which was also delicious. Â Finished it off with Panna Cotta. Â The dessert was just ok, probably the weakest part of the meal but I've had some really good panna cotta in the past so I'm probably a tough critic on this one. Â Service was a bit slow, but not unacceptably so. Â It's a noisy place, don't go here for an intimate date night, but for a fun night out with friends it is perfect. Â And bonus points for the 80s rock music.
Review Source:My husband and I went and tried Louie's tonight and I have to say that I was less than impressed. Â The wine selection was ok, but overpriced, and the food was mediocre at best. Â I had the chef's hamburger with fries and it was alright. Â Runza does a better burger and the fries were day old McDonald's fries. Â My husband had the buffalo chicken mac n' cheese, which wasn't bad actually. Â Overall the place was very loud, sound proofing is much needed, and the food and booze were overpriced If you want some place with a selection of wine and food, Brix has them beat by far!!
Review Source:My first visit to Louie's Wine Dive was just okay. We took a seat at the bar with the idea that we'd decide how to proceed (to stay or to go) once we settled in with a glass of wine. The wine menu provides options across the more familiar varietals to cover the reds, the whites, the sparklings - so no, you're not limited to tap wine (yes, there's tap wine), but don't expect Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape either.
We chose not to dine in on this particular evening. A couple of the menu items seemed interesting (I'm glad poutin is gaining in popularity in the US), but not interesting enough to commit to. We got the distinct impression that they may have been a bit overrun prior to our stopping in and needed the break to catch up which definitely influenced our decision. I'm giving them a "pass" since they've just opened and probably didn't anticipate the crush in this location.
Atmosphere is interesting with a mix of standard restaurant furniture, vintage looking pieces, wine themed decor and a few mounted televisions. Prices are what you'd expect pay per glass, per bottle and per entree - as long as you don't expect actual "dive" prices.
I can not say enough wonderful things about this place! The service (thanks Jodi) The owner( Thanks Jamie) the food, the wine and the atmosphere are all WONDERFUL!! Â Very personable and the Bruchetta sampler was AMAZING!!! Â Wines are excellent! So excited to have a new place to hang out and Thrilled Omaha is the new home for Louis! Cheers to you! Will be back again and again!
