Let me start off with saying that I came here A LOT when it first opened a few years ago. Back then, I had high hopes for a place like this: it was new, exciting, and different! Everyone wanted to come here and try out the new guy, so naturally it was very busy. And they did very well even with the crazy dinner crowds.
And really, when it first started out, this place did have potential. It was very friendly and inviting. Kids loved the colorful art on the walls, and it was cheap, easy to access and had a convenient takeout menu. And of course, I tried a lot of things.
It still maintains that vibrant art and a cheap menu today, but the place still seems to have lost its charm these days. I've tried the food recently and it just doesn't have the same appeal anymore. It's hard to be appealing when the meat and tortillas are microwaved! I used to love the rice and beans, but they don't taste the same at all anymore. I have also come to the conclusion that the chicken will never taste good when it has that green slime leaking out of it...
Overall, Lucy's started off on the right foot and has somehow lost it's direction along the way. But who knows, maybe they will improve at some point!
I am not quite understanding what all the negativity is about. Lucy's is a perfectly adorable boite in which to grab a nibble and a nosh. It has good energy with its bright colors, cazh atmosphere and many options. I don't think anyone is pretending to be something other than a spot to grab some eats. My Guaco Taco was fresh, colorful and tasty. They offer a few veggie/vegie options as well as a case of Mexican sodas made with cane sugar and not that nasty HFCS. The kitchen is right there so you can see Your food being prepared. Hard to hide anything in that set up. Lucy's is better than OK with me.
