Inexpensive. Comfy seats, good acoustics. Everyone is always so polite and helpful. The improv troupe puts on a different show every single time- I know because we stayed and watched two in a row one night just for the heck of it. And the comedy is good! You'll have a fun time here. It's not great for kids. But great for a date night or friend night.
Review Source:It's taken me way too long to try this place, as I have lived here 6 years. Heard nothing but great things, so expectations quite high. I really enjoyed the experience, but here's why I give it three stars, not more. The vibe is kind of stale. No character to the place. The food and drink selection is really sub par, especially for Denver. We are #2 in the country for best beer city and all I can choose from is Coors, Bud and Fat Tire? Not a single decent food option. Family friendly, so there were kids. I have four kids, but when I am on a date night with the wife and looking for really great improv, I am not looking to sit next to a 16 year who won't hold his personal gas problems to himself. Impulse Theater definitely does right bu requiring a drink so as to keep the crowd adult.
That all said, the actors were fantastic and I laughed a ton. Great cast, great enthusiasm, excellent execution on the improv. No small task! Will likely go back again sometime and will take the older kids to enjoy with us.
I was visiting friends when I went to the Madcap theater. I thought that it was a riot, I laughed for the majority of the show (there were some slow spots). My friends and I also appreciated the no drink minimum, the intimacy of the venue and the great service. I would definitely go again on my next visit to Denver.
Review Source:As far as improv comedy goes, Madcap is the best I've seen in the Denver area. Â Though it is a bit out of the way unless one lives on the north side, it is worth the drive. Â Despite being clean and family friendly, which is usually code for boring, the players are quite good. Â My gf and I have been twice and will certainly go again.
There is also no minimum item purchase, which is very nice. Â The prices and selection are par for the course for a comedy club; small, not very particularly good, and overpriced. Â The tickets are also a bit pricy for 90 minutes of entertainment at $16 each I believe, but I guess you have to pay more for quality. Â With that being said, everyone should go Herr at least once for some good laughs.
I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I'm a huge fan of comedy clubs, but usually I only go to see the big name acts. This place is kind of like Who's Line is it Anyway, but live. I wasn't sure what to think of the claim that it was "clean" and "family friendly". A lot of times that translates to "not very funny", but this place had me laughing the whole time. The guys are really, really funny.
I had a couple drinks there, and the service was decent and the drinks were good. Didn't try the food though, so I can't comment on that.
Overall I really liked the place, and I'll probably end up going back.
Hmmm...let's see where to start, well, I went into this place with an open mind, as you should with improv comedy, I came out with closed eyes and a shaking head. It wasn't as good as it could have been, 2 of the four comedians if that is what they are called, were okay, and the other two well, they just were in the wrong business. Of the almost 2 hour show I only really laughed three times. The place draws an older crowd, myself included. The comedy was pretty black and white. I seriously don't think it was worth the price, thank goodness I had a $3 off coupon per ticket. It reminded me of entry level comedy or high school comedy. It has a ways to go.
Review Source:This place is not closed, it is OPEN. The address is just wrong.
I'm all for a night of comedy; however, I wasn't sure what to expect when coming here because I looked on Madcap's website and saw a term that immediately turned me off... family friendly? Â And I made a comment to the person I went with about this fact. Â I admit, it made me sound as if all I like is vulgar, adult-themed comedy. Â That's not true! Â But I was talked into coming here, and I had a pretty good time.
The actors are funny, their timing is always "on." Â Different show every time, so you could go to every show if you wanted to and see something new (mostly). Â Keeping it clean is definitely a challenge, but the performers execute it well. Â You have to be quick to do improv (as I learned in my 7th grade acting class. Â Yah, I'm sort of a legend). Â These guys got it, and most of them are locally born and/or raised, with impressive training.
There's two shows a night, one at 7:00, and one at 9:30. Â You would think that few kids would be at the 9:30 show, and if they are there, then they'll be sleepy and semi-quiet. Â Oh no. Â At least when I was there, the children's shrill voices echoed in my ear, temporarily deafening me, and holding me back from shouting out some suggestions.
But it wasn't too bad, and I still had a good time. Â Shout out a suggestion if you can, (shut up, damn children) and you'll help make the show exciting for yourself.
Just a tip... if you go out to eat beforehand and you have a box of leftovers, make sure you have time to go put it in the car. Â That was my plan, but time got away from us. Â I tried to hide it from the women at the door, but they snatched it out of my hand and put it in their refrigerator. Â I'm sure nothing happened to it, but it surely makes me wonder... what if they did do something to it?
Moral of the story? Â No outside food or drink.
Second moral of the story? Â I don't hate kids. Â Really, I don't. Â Most of the time. Â But this is a fun place for families, but also for a night out with friends or a date if you must find yourself near the Westminster Promenade.
