This place was creeppy and in pretty bad shape. the tile on floor falling apart, bad stools, etc. The place does not seem very welcoming to strangers and the bartender made some snide remark when I left. Â Maybe he wanted a better tip. This place is definately a dive and they have nothing but cheap old beer. The place was filled with local bigots thrashing a certain racial group. One of the worse bars I have seen for a while. At least they had a large pool table and this is the only reason it gets one star aside from the fact yelp doesn't have anything lower.
Review Source:I am proud to be the first person to write a review for this place. Â I went here on my own little Oak Lawn pub crawl over opening day of NFL football (Sun. Sep. 11) after going to TC Sports Pub and Tailgator. Â This place blew those two out of the water.
In short, Maggie Maguires can either be called a very laid back sports bar or top-of-the-line dive bar. Â After driving up the alleyway that runs along the auto mechanic next door, park in the big lot behind the fenced enclosure that holds a very nice outdoor seating area.
As you enter the dimly lit bar say hello to Jimmy, the bartender, and find yourself a seat at the long L-shaped bar. Â Enjoy a variety of drinks (including a respectable selection of beers on tap or in bottles) as you watch sports on one of the five plasma screen TVs, play $1 pool (on a well maintained pool table with decent cues), darts, or ask for the set of wooden beanbag game (bag-o, cornhole, whatever you want to call it). Â I had fun playing music on the computerized juke box which had a wide range of music. Â My choices that night included Grateful Dead & Metalica. Â
A sign on the wall advertised a Guiness draughts special on Wednesdays. Â This is a major step up in class from the $1 Old Styles and Bush Light patrons at other lesser dive bars choke down.
There was an assortment of patrons there that night from sports fans to much older country music fans, which I could tell based on their jukebox choices that night. Â A sign in the window welcomes NASCAR fans as well.
I found out from Jimmy that Maggie McGuires has been around awhile and actually used to be even better then it is now, but I don't see too many ways for it to improve. Â A kitchen would be nice, but there is a gyro place right next door.
I fully intend to come back. Â It is the perfect place to watch a game or just gather with friends for a drink & fun.
