First things first: This review is for the second location of The Main Event, recently opened on Rte. 110 in Farmingdale, NY, having taken over the huge space that was once Kodiaks.  We were seated right away, even tho' it was already 6:30 on Thursday and they were busy. As I said, this place is very, very big.  If you get overwhelmed by lots of TVs, skip it, as Main Event boasts 50!  I was pleased to see Tiara, one of the best servers from Kodiaks, had stuck around.  I had heard the owners also own a seafood wholesale company so I had to try the seafood.  Much to my delight, there was a whole special menu of seafood in addition to their regular voluminous menu. So, our order: 2 Gin & Tonics (excellent), 1 appetizer of Steamers, 1 entrée of Soft Shelled Crabs Francaise over a Rice Pilaf, and 1 order of Fettuccini Alfredo w/ Shrimp, Chicken & Broccoli.  ($75.00 total bill - very reasonable)
I knew we were in for a good meal once I tasted the Steamers (For the uninitiated, like clams, but w/ a tail).  Our server came out with a large covered bowl full of them, hot & steaming, along with bowls of hot melted butter & clam broth.  More than enough for both of us.  So we dug in and happily, and not one single clam in that bowl had a spec of sand in it! Wow.  Our entrées came with salad (house or Caesar).  You don't see that much anymore.  It was fresh, crisp and the blue cheese dressing was really chunky.  My entrée of Fettuccini was perfect, pasta cooked al dente', tender shrimp & moist chicken, rich sauce. As far as the Soft Shell Crabs, my dining companion assured me they were excellent, deliciously prepared and way more than enough for dinner. (I'm not a fan) We both took food home. Â
DebsFood looks forward to going back to sample some more delicacies from their main menu, dozens of appetizers, burgers, chops, pasta & seafood.  Check out my profile here for more of my reviews, then let me know what you think!
A solid 3 star-er.  A friday night seemed right to try out this expanding Long Island Sports pub franchise.  Although full we were able to get seated immediately.  Much like other sports pubs they have televisions on virtually every wall.  The menu is DINER LIKE - shockingly large. Does a pub need such an expansive menu.. not including the specials menu.  It took a whole 30 minutes to read. They seem to have an endless variety of Apps, Salads, Entrees, Sammies, Wraps and more.  We saw tons of Beers, Buffalo Wings and Warm Brownies w/ ice cream walk by  but that didn't affect us.  We ordered  Broiled Filet of Sole w/ Veggie Medley &  Baby Back Ribs w/ Sweet Potato.  The fish was a big surprise. Cooked perfectly, seasoned well and the veggies were fresh.  The Baby Backs however were overcooked and tough, chewy.  Not fall off the bone. Also they were not really very saucy.  Our waitress did her job, but with no personality.  We were not offered drink refills, nor were we asked "hows everything?" or "how did it come out?" ... nothing. She took the order.... brought the drinks..... Brought the check.  Runners and bus boys did the rest.  I would have spoke to the manager making the rounds but he was distracted by other customers.
Review Source:This pub is a great place to meet with friends and catch your favorite sports game. They had the sound on the TV's which I thought was so great, since most bars/pubs don't do this. The staff was very nice and attentive and the food was great. I intend to go back as this seems like a good to place for some causal drinks & good food!
