The Main Street Ice Cream Parlor used to be located down the street. But as their popularity (for their food, ice cream and gift shop) grew, so did their need for more space. And then the landlord wanted more money. So they picked up and moved on down the block.
They haven't lost any of their charm by moving, however. This is a true old-fashioned ice cream soda shoppe. You can order anything your little ice cream heart could desire. But don't just come here for dessert. They serve a wonderful lunch and have an extensive gift shop upstairs.
We were driving to Canada and thought about stopping for lunch after we passed the Saratoga Springs/Lake George region. We decided to take a chance and exited in Chestertown with the hopes that Main Street would have something yummy to offer.
We were tempted to stop for pizza but wanted something more substantial, so we kept driving and ended up stopping at this homey yellow building. The staff was friendly and service was very prompt.
We ordered the the pumpkin lobster bisque soup, the turkey special with grilled local vegetables, and a corned beef sandwich. It was all very tasty and well priced. Â I think this will be our new pit stop.
So, the Southwest Burger, a half pound of fresh ground loaded with peppers, onions and provolone, was done to medium with a small dish of jalapeno Mayo.
It was very good. Even without the chips, pickle and lettuce/tomato, it was a pleasure to indulge in a moment of greasy decadence in this little corner of the Adirondacks.
The shake was just as good as on the way north.
This is the real deal in the Adirondack Mountains near Brant lake. A small local cafe with someone in the kitchen who knows how to make a perfect sandwich. I had the amazing BLT tuna-melt one day and a glorious Reuben the next.
Our large family was at a nearby "retreat/ camp" for a family wedding and the place was overrun by our family and friends- about 100 folks. Everyone had great food and the kitchy nature of the decor is right for the space.
The teen waitresses did a great job keeping up.
Ice creams looked amazing, but alas I was full!
