Perfect roadside bar & grill! The food is amazing & priced very low. I had the East Kent Sandwich (turkey and Genoa salami panini on local bread. The turkey was fresh meat and the salami as thick cut and delicious. My husband had the burger, also fantastic. The portions are huge and they are sharing - friendly. Beers are cheap too; I had a 20 oz Stella for $5:50. The outdoor seating is charming. There are tables in trellised arbors with sleeping cats in residence. Some tables overlook the Hoosic river. Overall quaint and relaxing. We will definitely be back.

Yes, it is great, and worth the drive.  Tip:  try the beef stew.  It is rich and flavorful and plentiful [be hungry, served with a spoon to get every drop of the powerful sauce/gravy]... [a touch less salt in the prep would not hurt].  We sat in the garden for lunch on a lovely autumn day with a view of the neighboring hillside and the sound of the creek in the distance.  Perfect!

PS:  the cole slaw is made in house and is tops.

I love this local  pub.  The service is great and the pub food is delicious.  They have dinner specials that will surprise you.  I recently had a steak Au poivre that was fantastic. This will definitely be a pitstop every time I travel from NY to MA. The interior is nothing to rave about but there's something about this place that makes me want to go back. It's somewhat of a dive but it's very welcoming and relaxing.

Great place for a nice dinner. We stopped on the way home about 4:30 on Saturday night. We walked right in and sat down. They have a good kids menu for our 4 yr old and 2yr old and the coloring sheets they loved too. I got a cheeseburger which was cooked perfectly and the roll was delicious. My husband got a chicken bacon wrap that was amazing. It was a hot wrap which we weren't expecting so we were pleasantly surprised. Over all a great experience. I would definitely recommend making the trip to this quint little tavern.

Wonderful, quaint little tavern.  Beautiful scenery and has a very serene feel in the "garden".   Friendly servers that check on you at just the right intervals.  The ahi tuna was delicious.  I look forward to trying more menu items.

A requisite stop on the way to/from Vermont, the Man of Kent Tavern is a funky English-style pub serving better than English food and beer.

With outside seating along a creek, Man of Kent grills up tasty burgers and massive sandwiches using the very delicious Rock Hill bakery bread.

Oh, and the tap selection featuring a lot of English and local ales (including a Brown's) isn't so shabby either.

Nothing says, "Welcome to (almost) Vermont" better than a nice cold pint of Switchback Unfiltered Ale served with grilled Cabot cheddar cheese, mushroom and bacon sandwich.

Being the only bar/restaurant around for miles, Man of Kent can quickly change atmospheres from convivial pub to raucous and loud townie sports bar/night club.

But hey locals rule, I'm only the tourist.

Also, not having hand-pulled Cask ale on tap is sorely missed.

Either way, Man of Kent Tavern is a must-stop on Route 7entering or leaving New York.

I love Man of Kent and have since I was a college student in Loudonville who made frequent trips to Bennington. I've loved the way it just kind of appears along the side of the road, the way is always packed and the soccer paraphernalia donning every available space.

I hate that there are Man of Kent euro stickers but I can forgive this, their only transgression.

Everything is good. Everything. Great selection of beer, tasty burgers and delicious mac 'n' cheese. So very tasty with diced tomatoes in it. I believe it's only a special but if they have it, get it. You can't go wrong with the menu here, there are no bad decisions. So, the next time you're driving 7/9 keep your eyes open for this fantastic spot - hard to miss with the seventeen million cars out front!

P.S. if it's spring and there's a table, sitting outside is nice.

A great place out of nowhere. Passed by this place when we were in desperate search of a decent place to eat driving from Vermont to new york. The burgers were excellent but this place is more than burgers. I had the seafood specials/ pasta and i was pleasantly surprised how delicious it was. Glad that we didn't settle for Subway a mile away. Will definitely drop by here on our next trip to Vermont.

We drive past this place every year on the way to Vermont. I've always been intrigued and wanted to stop but it never really fit in our plans and was a little too far for a trip on its own. Its pretty much a dive bar with a lot of flare. Surprisingly, the bathrooms are nicer than the actual dining room. I only saw about 3 tvs on one end of the dining room so I can't really imagine going there to watch any sports either. The menu is small and mostly sandwiches or burgers. I was surprised they didn't even have the standard Buffalo wings, only some Asian style wings which I wasn't in the mood to try.

I ended up just getting a sandwich. The Elphicks, which is grilled cheddar, sauteed mushrooms, onions, and peppers with turkey breast on Rock Hill rye and served with chips and a pickle.  It was a solid sandwich. They use real, quality turkey and a great bread.

It was a good lunch spot but I couldn't see coming for dinner.

I deeply regret not eating here prior to today.  After passing by this place a bunch of times on my way to or from Vermont and Massachusetts, I discovered the excellent food and beer that people rave about from this restaurant.  This hidden gem is worth the trip.  The place was quite busy, even for a Sunday afternoon, but there is a server quickly ready to get a drink for you while you wait.  As I found a seat at the bar, the lady seated next to me commented that she had the best burger she had ever tasted.  With such a glowing recommendation, I decided to try the Man of Kent Burger, which includes peppers and onions.  Indeed, it was an extremely tasty hamburger.  Additionally, the man seated next to me raved about a hot pastrami sandwich to his friend, so it's easy to see why people come to this tight, little English pub miles away from anything.  The pub also has a very large selection of beers on tap and in bottles, both domestic and imported.

I like the place, I'm a fan, wish I could go 3.5 stars. I'm not jumping out of the box though with a 4. The beer selection is extensive and quite fresh. Thats a 5 star from me hands down. The food was ok, it was pub food and if the burger is tasty you really can't mess it up, but they did hook it up, good onions and peppers. I had the soy wings with a wasabi dipping sauce. I thought it was a hilarious choice for an English pub, but let me tell you those were some of the better wings in the capital area. The ambiance, even for the theme of the place was dated, but who is eating "flare" lol. I'll have to go another time to see if it lives up to what I was hoping for in the first expirience. My only complaint, and this is totally selfish, for me its in the middle of nowhere. If I have more that one delicious pints, there's no way I'm making it home. Its in the most peculiar place for a good restaurant. But, thats why I made a special trip. You know, the more I keep blabbering I think that they have me thinking about going back. Its a marketing too. Rats! I've been sucked in, I'll be there again soon

We arrived on a monday night at 7 and was told there was a wait for a table.  Fine.  We were seated placed our order and proceeded to wait 2 hours for our food as every person around us was served and left before we got our food.  And even when we got our food, our orders were wrong and had to go back to the kitchen.  The reviews on the food were mixed some people liked their food, I hated my food.  I wouldn't go back.

While I was staying in Clifton Park for training I made several trips to the mountains of Vermont and each time I drove by MOK I was curious about the number of cars parked there. The diminutive hideaway didn't look like it could accommodate the amount of patrons that must have arrived in those vehicles.

A friend and I finally stopped in to see what the attraction was and suffice it to say we were not disappointed. The selection of drafts was enough to satisfy even the most finicky of beer snobs and the food? Oh the food! They do have pub food, sandwiches and such but I never tried it. I was drawn to their handwritten daily menu that in my opinion rivals some of the finer establishments I've been to.

My first meal there consisted of an appetizer of Ahi tuna, seared then sliced and served with a unique and very flavorful Teriyaki sauce. The main course was a succulent choice pork chop about an inch and a half thick with a maple glaze that would have sent Aunt Jemima back to the test kitchen. This, my first impression, was a marvelous repast.

We ended up making the hour long journey to MOK several more times and on each occasion bringing additional people with us who just had to taste the victuals we had been raving about. No one in our party was ever disappointed.

The owner and his staff are very friendly and I for one never felt like an outsider.

The atmosphere is crowded and very noisy so not a perfect place to get some alone time with your date or hold a meeting.

Interestingly, each time we were there, we were greeted by people we had met at other establishments as far as sixty miles away. You can't help but feel welcomed at MOK!

If I lived in the same time zone, I would frequent this jewel on a regular basis.

Summary- Fun place in a odd location with a great selection of beer and on the night we went in a super slow kitchen. I'd go 2 stars if the food wasn't as good as it was when it finally made it to the table. 4.5 Stars (where is sits on Yelp) is over rated.

    Food- 3.5 Stars
We started with a special wing, it was ginger soy or something. They were good, well fried with an excellent side dipping sauce.

We got a KOH burger and a grilled cheese with bacon and other stuff for dinner. The Burger and the grilled cheese were both good, but my burger was way overcooked (I wanted medium got a super well done burger). We had been there so long at that point that I didn't want to take the time to return it. It was good but would have been way better properly cooked.

The grilled cheese was excellent, the bread being the star of the show.

    Service- 2 Stars
Not really sure to do when walking in? Yes because there are no signs, hostess stand, or other. Just bother the first waitress that goes by. Awkward!

Although wait staff were nice and friendly the kitchen was ridiculously slow (and they overcooked my burger noted above). We got there just before 6:30 and left after 8:30 with a 10 minute wait before we sat down. That's a long time considering we left right after we ate.  So basically don't stop here unless you have some time to burn.

    Atmosphere- 4 Stars
Nice theme'd place with various UK stuff everywhere and a nice patio deck area. Can see it being loud/packed inside.

    Drinks- 5 Stars
    Great beer selection ftw!

    Value- 3 Stars
    About where it belongs.

    MAN-O-MAN-OF KENT......why would I, a self-described gourmand give you 5 stars?
Because you consistently deliver 5 star pub food, the best selection of beers around, and offer a great atmosphere - on THIS side of the Atlantic.

And now, in addition to  the less expensive menu options, is an upscale, up-priced specials menu with "she-she" items, i.e. steak au poivre, fried oysters with chipotle aioli, and seafood stew, etc. The fried oysters were DIVINE- crispy panko crust, A-kicking hot spicy chipotle, and piping hot and FRESH tasting. No grit -Wow.

The beer battered Haddock was sensational because it was extra crisp without being greasy...and I did not have to ask for the malt vinegar. The pile of Mac n' Cheese on the table next to ours was gynormous, as was some sort of antipasto salad. I have had the great burgers here and the fabulous seared Ahi Tuna appetizer ($13.95). I frequently order the Ahi app. for my entree unless I am starving; it is usually sufficiently filling.
There has never been a downside, except perhaps waitng for a table because they are always busy........now if only they could squeeze in a cozy fireplace...ahhh that would be the ticket!
This place is a littlle gem.

EXCELLENT food. Full of reputable-seeming people having good conversation midday on a Sunday. Clean bathrooms. Good beer. Fair prices.

My girlfriend ordered a burger and it was still steaming five minutes into it.

I had a superb new york strip and:
    1. It was -precisely- medium rare
    2. The veggies, potatoes, and portabello cap were wonderfully cooked and seasoned
    3. It was a good cut of meat to begin with

I'm so glad we stopped here on our drive up to Vermont. Because of that meal, I was asleep within ten minutes of getting back into the car.

Great Beer, Great food, Great atomosphere.

The owner often works the bar. He is a great guy and really makes the experience.

There is a huge beer list. both bottled and draft

This is a small place, so if you are going during peak hours, be prepared to wait... It will be worth it!

Man - this is just good! Great burger - came out so hot, my wife actually had to wait for it to cool off. It is amazing how such a little thing like hot food can be messed up by so many place. Definitely not the case here.

I had fish and chips - gotta go with it in a pub!

Then there is the awesome beer list - Speckled Hen is really, really, really good. That draft beer texture is so much more enjoyable than a bottle and the taste/flavor has a caramel??? tone.

My wife was able to have a few sips of an IPA but I was the lucky one and got to finish it for her.

Not really a kid place - which makes for a great date night without children.

Never been disappointed: will keep going back.

I love this place!  It's out on Route 7 near the VT border, so I drive by it every time me and my sweetie go into VT.  This past weekend I happened to go snowboarding with a friend, and we decided we needed a break from a hard day of riding, so we stopped in to see what this place was all about.  They've got footie jerseys all over, a nice selection of draughts, good and ample food, and some very nice patrons.  The decor is wood paneling in the front and a more modern, drywalled extension in the back.  I'm sure that there's an outdoor area in the back, but given that it's the dead of winter, I didn't investigate.  I'll go back when it's warmer out for sure, though.

I think I always want this place to be cozier than it really is, because when you step inside I feel like I'm standing on the top of a pool table. That aside, the beer selection is fantastic and the food is a step above standard pub grub. The mac & cheese is good, though I'd prefer it without the tomato bits. I've never eaten outside, but I tend to seek out Man of Kent during the winter when I don't feel like driving too far and I know there's a warm meal waiting for me.

Just be warned... if you sit outside, the service is horrible.

That said, the beer list is great, the English guy who owns the place is a total sweetheart and the food is decent!

We've never been disappointed by the Man of Kent. It's not 5 star dining but it's good food. The waitresses are SLOW. We have been at least 4 or 5 times now and they are all very, very slow but enjoy a beer while you wait. Outside is a cute little deck on the river. The tables/chairs are a bit archaic but not so important in the grand scheme of things. We have not eaten inside yet (which is small, but seems cosy).

I recommend Speckled Hen on draught.

The Man of Kent is a little tavern on Rt. 7 in the village of Hoosick Falls, NY.  I drop by here with my friends whenever we are going up to Vermont to Ski.  Before John sold the place, he was always at behind the bar.

The food is great here.  The sandwiches are grilled so the outsides are crispy and the cheese is melted.  I've also had other food here - the buffalo burger is good and they have a chicken bowl special every once in a while which is good.

The bar has a lot of character because of all the rugby shirts and bar towels hanging from the rafters.

If you are heading up north on Route 7, stop by.   you'll see a parking lot full of cars and a bar full of skiers.  It's right before the Bennington Bypass so if you get on that, you know you missed it.

, has been a welcoming local institution for nearly 20 years. Owner John Stoate
