surprisingly good, especially for the area, there weren't that many options! My milkshake took a long time, but the beer batter onions rings and fish n chips were awesome! Even tried the french dip, which was meaty and flavorful! I could've lived without the garlic fries but the strawberry rhubarb pie was pretty yummy. Wish the pie was warm but homemade food always hits the spot! :)
Review Source:So many of my friends have told me about the pies at this place and this was the summer we were able to stop by. Â It was everything I had hoped. Â They had 5 pies and each was a mile tall. Â The slices were large and plenty. Â My slice was the blueberry cream in the photo I uploaded but they also had dutch apple, strawberry rhubarb, chocolate mouse, and a couple more. Â They were all really exceptional. Â You can tell the owners have decided to make this a cornerstone of the restaurant. Â These pies are worth the trip alone. Â Next time I will try their burgers which my buddy gave 5 stars.
Review Source:Dragged in from a day of exploring the NCNP. Â Friendly staff, owner came over and talked fishing (we are always on the lookout for good spots).
I had the fried cod with coleslaw and fries. Amazing. Â Crunchy on the outside, hot, flavorful and completely nummy on the inside. Â Eat this now. Â It's killer. Â Quite unexpected from a diner out in what's pretty much the sticks.
They have beer and wine, usual fare. Â I'll admit, I'm kind of a wine snob, so it wouldn't kill me to say they could improve the wine some.
I was with three other folks, and I'll leave it to them to post their own comments.
But for a tiny spot in the woods, this place is a darned happy find.
I was told this diner is under new management (maybe even new ownership), so reviews more than a year old may be out of dates.
Reasonable prices, and surprisingly good food. Â The Black & Blue burger was great. Â Two cajun-blackened angus beef patties with blue cheese and other fixings.
They make some kind of dutch brand of coffee that is out of the ordinary good.
Four of us went here last night, and we would all go back.
YUM! Happened to stop by this diner while camping. The bacon cheeseburger is amazing! Nice thick bacon. The garlic fries are really good too. They saute them  and drizzle the garlic and butter over them. WAY better than any garlic fries from a stadium or other restaurant. The onion rings were also very good. Cooked correctly! You could actually easily bite through the onions. Didn't have to try and take a bite, and have the onion come out and burn your lips.
They have homemade tartar sauce! And boy is it good. It's really good with the deep fried pickles! The deep fried pickle spears are to die for. Our group tried a bunch of stuff on the menu and it was all amazing!
You get what you pay for here. It's more spendy than a fast food joint but everyone is made with quality ingredients. It tastes like you made it at home with no expense spared! Except you don't have to do any of the work!
They compost all the leftovers and encourage recycling of the to go boxes they give you as well which are bio degradable. I didn't get a chance to try desert as there was so much food served to us. However their pies use fruits that are grown in the huge garden right next to the building! There were tons of apple trees with apples ripening when we were there.
I just got home from camping now, and am already looking for excuses to drive back for another burger.
There are certain expectations that one has when eating at weird diners in small towns - I expect to be able to get myself a decent fresh cooked breakfast (Approximating Denny's - fresh eggs, pancakes, etc...) and I expect a certain level of kitschyness. Â Marblemount diner only provides the later and not even very well.
We were camping in Marblemount and decided to go to this diner for breakfast - the only option was an all you can eat breakfast buffet (About the quality of a continental breakfast). Â There were mediocre barely warm eggs, some breakfast sausage, uncrisp bacon, tater tots, and biscuits and gravy - The quality of all was sub par.
Don't eat here unless you have to, there were a couple other restaurants in the area that might've been better but I didn't get a chance to try them.
An oasis in a desert of bad food.. from the GINORMOUS pork cutlet sandwich to the delectable cod fish n chips, Â this place rocked our house collectively. Everything was deep fried and battered, but done very well - and thats coming from a group of home grown Southerners!!
The only thing I'd avoid is the crab cakes, which they claimed to have real crab. Did they really think they could pull a fast one over a group of Asians? Recognizing imitation crab is our birthright!!
I was always suspect of random diners in the wilderness, so imagine our surprise when we encountered a diner from which all of us were very pleasantly surprised. The fish and chips were very moist on the inside. The chicken fried steak sandwich was expected to be subpar without that southern sausage white gravy, but turned out delicious. Even the pork sandwich, which is ENORMOUS (ie, twice the area of the bun it comes on), was great!
Just don't call it "Howie's Diner" like other uninformed reviewers; the name was changed!
