Atmosphere is cozy and classy. Wine is a collection of amazing. Service is some of the best in town. This would be a great place for a first date, 39th anniversary, a drink before your show at the Cascade, or anything else you can think of. Brian, Susie and the rest know how to make you feel special. Do yourself a favor and stop in soon!
Review Source:Great little place. The hubs and I had the Thai Nachos. Soooo good! Come for the wine and keep coming back for the Thai Nachos. Came on a Friday night. The place probably seats about 50 and it got packed out right after we got there so their was a bit of wait for our food, although staff was very friendly and attentive. They got slammed all at once so not totally their fault. Looking forward to trying more wine and other food. Again, service staff was awesome and made you feel welcomed. Kind of a "Cheers" bar in regards to friendliness with a little more panache. Good decor and lighting made for nice ambiance. Definitely a fan. We will definitely be back. Only reason it didn't get 5 stars because I've been to better places elsewhere. Although, it might deserve 5 stars if I am just considering the area of Redding. This was up there in regards to great wine, great dining and great ambiance. You should check it out. Here's their hours: Monday - Wednesday 1 to 8pm, Thursday and Friday 1 to 10pm, Saturday 3 to 10pm, and Closed Sundays.
Review Source:I've found my new favorite place in Redding!! The decor is lovely. The owners were friendly and welcoming. Â I had called ahead to see if kids are allowed and they are. So we brought my son and ordered him a raspberry Italian Soda. Â He loved it. Â My husband and I both ordered a 3 oz serving of a lighter wine that we wanted to try and then a second glass of a red. Â They brought an amazing little bowl of chocolate to go with the red wine. Â I'm in love with this place and will return again and again.
Review Source:Their lunch menu is fantastic and the chef is great. The staff is very personable and I never have to wait very long. Although the portions are kind of small (sandwich would be a good example, it can fit in the palm of my hand) the quality and "artistry" that goes into the food way offsets this.
I am definitely going to be a regular of this establishment and you should too.
Enjoyed a very pleasant evening with staff and my new BFF, Bill, a local from Pittville -- just up the road a piece from Redding.  Was undecided about where to dine and the owner suggested I tie-up at the wine bar and order off the menu from the adjacent Market Street Steakhouse. Perfect option since I was alone and this provided an opportunity to chat with people similarly engaged. Tasted some "Serious" a 2009 old vine Zin from Macchia in Acampo in San  Joaquin County.  I can honestly say it was "serious" Zinfandel and was a perfect pair with my Flame Grilled Steak  Salad which came from the Steakhouse. Bill carved into the biggest pork chop  I have ever seen - side of garlic mashed - more than once he thanked the server for making the recommendation.  Clearly nice relationship between Market Street Wines and the Steakhouse -- oh, yes, it's all in the same family.
Hand-made chocolates are available as the perfect ending to the meal with another glass of some luscious red wine. What I loved was how they drew me in. I took the hook and stayed. Would definitely go back. They are looking to grow the niche market they have established in downtown Redding - so stay tuned and check them out. Amazing to find this caliber of tasting room here. Do need a bit more information on their skill level regarding describing wines. And I'm no expert.
Pouring 5 whites & 6 reds?! Come on now, the steakhouse next door has a better selection, but I could have lived with that, what really made me rate this place so low was the following:
Food gets a C-
We ordered a cheese plate (w/ 2 cheeses) and the crab cake sliders. Â
The slabs of cheese were huge! Â 3-4 times the amount you would be served at any winery or wine bar and I would know after living in Sac for several years and regularly visiting Amador, Napa, Sonoma, Calistoga, etc. Â Now this might sound like a plus to your non-wine connoisseur but remember, these are rich cheeses, we didn't need a 'half pound' of each thank you very much. Â The crab cakes were ok, cold, buns a little less than fresh and the 3 sauces were boring.
Our waitress' wine knowledge gets a D.
We explained we wanted to start with a buttery, crisp chardonnay and got a blank stare for a moment followed by, "Um, I tried this chard earlier and it was good." Â Good?, that's relative & neither buttery nor crisp. Â When the wine showed up it was great but the negatives had already set the mood for our first visit.
Now again, not the worst dining experience ever, but at $110 for the 2 of us for a couple glasses of wine each and some appetizers.....
We won't go back.
We dropped in last night to get our anniversary date-night off to a Bacchian start. Â The proprietor, Bryan, is a friendly guy who informed us that he was pouring four featured zins -- off to a good start, zin being one of our favorite varietals. Â TL ordered a glass the biggest and baddest of the four -- Macchia "Outrageous." Â It lived up to the name. Â I ordered a flight of the three other zins. Â All good, but I preferred TL's glass, with the other Macchia zin coming in second. Â (Note to self: Â Visit Macchia Winery next time you're in the Lodi area.)
We ordered a cheese plate that really could have served as our dinner -- it was that generous. Â (Youngest child in fact was happy later on to make the leftovers her dinner, while TL and I went off to Nello's.) Â You choose the artisan cheese you want from their excellent selection -- we sampled an earthy, sharp English cheddar and a Humboldt Fog goat cheese.
Market Street Wines offers a wine club that's different -- you get a discount on two or four bottles of wine every month, it's your choice between 60+ bottles of wine in the shop, and it's apparently not a monthly commitment. Â I'll be signing up for it next time we drop in, which will likely be soon.
Not Bryan's fault that a pack of lawyers walked in toward the end of our stay to swirl and sniff chardonnay and talk shop. Â They did their best to kill the mood, but failed.
The local fishwrap just reviewed Market Street Wines, too:  <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.redding.com%2Fnews%2F2010%2Faug%2F19%2Ftown-market-street-wines-offers-affordable-wine-do%2F&s=bb370d126a3091f299f04ad99b43904682c63689beb59c83ea6e178ff7e331a3" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.redding.com/n…</a>
Hey! Â Just noticed that this is my 50th FTR!
