To answer Cody...probably never. Â I think this place figured out a long time ago what the locals will settle for.
This is definitely in a small town that must have had a train station at some point. Â Now, most phone number's begin with 666 and they have a downtown about a block long with at least 6 bars. Â Heck, a couple places on that strip that weren't bars even had last night's beer cans on their window sills. Â
If you go here...
Expect a confusing menu chock full of very similar dishes named after railways and Wisconsin sports legends which cost $7-$11. Â Also expect a single waitress who's run too ragged to really be friendly to anyone until she hands them the bill. Â On the positive side, they do serve ENORMOUS onion rings, yummy rye toast and several decent club sandwiches. Â None of us had any real complaints about the food except they lack what's needed to poach an egg. Instead they will "baste" the life out of any egg until it has the look, feel and taste of a toy egg that came with your kids play kitchen. Â To a local resident this is probably a 3 star joint, but I guess we're just not "used to it".
...just try to ignore the mess as you first walk in. Â Must be awful hard to put a choo-choo train set together nowadays.
My family has been coming to wisconsin dells for 20 years, so my whole life. Â We have always gone to Martha's (previously Sandy's) for breakfast while we are in the area.
The only complaint we have is the slow service. Â Usually there is only one waitress running around and being from the Chicago area, we get a little impatient when we are hungry. Â We expect our order to come out hot and fast. Â Luckily the food is always awesome. Â
Expect a lot of small town charm, and regulars to be sitting around.
Btw, when are they going to finish the remodeling?
