Rock solid average. If you know what to get, it could be much better than that.
Was here for dinner. Service started slow due to a large rehearsal dinner that just arrived but after that I would say it was pretty good.
Bruschetta app was very tasty. Not sure if I saw it on the menu but friend ordered it, apparently familiar with the place. Fresh tomatoes, nice basil, great flavor. Get this.
Wife had the caesar salad, decent but there were large pieces of old lettuce. Don't get. Or get if you see others get it and the lettuce quality is better.
Soup available with dinner was the Tuscan bean clam chowder. Delicious, generous amount of clams, great broth (could use a dash more salt). Get this.
I had the scalloppine marsala. Also delicious. Lots of big mushrooms, good veal, great marsala sauce. Odd bunch of spinach just thrown on the side but hey, I ate it. Get this.
Wife had the chicken parm which I sampled. Chicken piece I had was dry if you can believe that. Don't get this.
No desserts. I wasn't paying and too full anyway. So, the place definitely has potential but the worst offender I think was the salad. I mean, seriously, big visible pieces of brown lettuce. Otherwise, they definitely have some tasty and good dishes worth trying if you're around.
I would like for it to fall right into the 3.5 star award... better than I expected as I pulled across traffic on a busy weekend into the parking lot... View is lovely; staff are lovely... I just want the food to get out of the Olive Garden mode and kick it up a notch. Â I will give it another try, soon.
I did enjoy the side salad and house vinaigrette and the olive oil dipping sauce has a polite kick.
Tried the lunch menu for a business meeting. Â Outstanding food and service. Â The atmosphere is one of the best in the Harbor. Â
My wife and I ate dinner this evening. Â Service was outstanding and the food totally delicious. Â My wife said the lasagna was the best she has every had. Â Recommend Massimo's to anyone...price was nominal.
This was a nice place with a great appetizer and salad. Â As for our meals, they were okay. Â We will try this place again now that we know what to ask for and expect.
My husband ordered the special and did not realize the prawns would literally by cut in half and served whole on top of the seafood pasta. Â He had indicated he wanted crab and we were just expecting something different.
The service was okay, but I did notice that people who had ventured in after us were getting the starters first. Â The view is fantastic and it is really right there overlooking the water.
I give Massimo's 4 stars for the ambiance/view; 2 stars for the food. Â I went here recently for dinner with a couple of friends, both of whom had eaten here previously and wanted to give it another chance since the views are so incredible. Â Neither were convinced afterward of returning. Â I ordered the pizza thinking it would be pretty safe. Â I was imagining the crust would have been brick/wood oven fired, but it ended up being white and doughy like from what I remember Dominos being from my high school days. Â All but the outer 2" of the pizza was mushy, so it was literally like eating cheese soup of mozzarella and feta. Â Our experience was further aggravated by the incompetency of the our waiter, although this is not reflected in my * ranking as I feel the waiter's competency is irrelevant as to how the meal was cooked.
I agree with one of the other reviewers that this is slightly better than Olive Garden (however, has an incredible view to offer). Â I went to Olive Garden one time about 10 years ago and have never been back. Â Similarly, I don't intend to return to Massimo's, unless I'm just meeting up for drinks or am on a road trip passing through the area and am starving.
At the time I finished dinner, only my eyes enjoyed the night. View was nice, people were lovely, other than that, food had been disappointing.
This is my second time visit WA and I know how good and fresh seafood is in this beautiful state. NO Kidding. I am from Florida and WA kicked our back for providing excellent delicious seafood. But no, it didn't happen today at Massimo.
My Halibut Puttanesca pleased my eyes. Then the first bite determined its fate to end in the refrigerator till it grows mold. It is too fishy, too salty, too Un-Italian. My friend ordered the Daily Special, copper river salmon, it was also a let down because it was overcooked. You can't overcook a fish. It is a sin to a fish!
I gave this restaurant 3 star just to be fair since it was my first try and it could be just one time bad luck. I like their pleasant deco and friendly service. Menu covers variety Italian dishes and wine selections are good. Plus the view, it definitely deserve 3 star or more. Hope next time will be a better time.
To be honest would probably rather cook than eat here. Â Bread was dry, stale both times that we ate there, olive oil and garlic was oddly bitter..almost liked burnt or over cooked garlic tastes . This will be a mystery unsolved because we won.t be back. Â Tried it two different times in past 2 months..both times food was poor. I mean, who likes cooked, overdone spinach? Â It is always the side and you would think they would notice no one ever eats it. Â Used to fill up plate and I don't think they care. Never have the salmon, worst I ever had and when i asked the waitress for a different piece that was not burnt and dry she was horribly snotty. I wish the food was better, we really need a solid Italian place in harbor. Â Food is under seasoned, bland and overcooked in general. Â Even the spaghetti, looks like it it was made for a 2 year old...pour tomato sauce over noodles and call it spaghetti. Â Who can mess up spaghetti?
Review Source:Made reservations for 6pm for a larger group. Â Ended up with 14 instead of 10 (unexpected kids). Â Did not get seated until 6:40. Â Service was really slow, but they were pretty busy (sat night). Â Gal who brought the waters out practically threw them at us, splashing mine all over my menu. Â Waitress was nice but seemed to be in over her head. Â Did not get food until about 8:20. Â Portions were small, food was good but not great. Â Felt a little angry when they included the gratuity in the bill. Â I hate it when they do that, should be illegal. Â I give excellent tips when I feel they are earned. Â Overall it has potential but has a ways to go.
Review Source:I went at night so I was not able to see the view. It was during a big football game so the place was nearly empty, which I was told was unusual for a Saturday night. I thought the food was very good and the service was excellent. The prices were not too bad for a fancy restaurant. I will be back.
Review Source:Our very first evening dinner was at Massimo's ... I recognized the name from its sister restaurant close to my previous office in the Financial District, San Francisco. Â Our host, Gabriel, was wonderful. Â The ambiance is cozy and upscale; the views of the bay amazingly serene. Â We found the wine and food to be delicious and on par with my previous experiences with Massimo's in San Francisco. A wonderful spot for anything, from a lunch business meeting to a romantic intimate meal for two. We look forward to our visit.
Review Source:My favorite place in Gig Harbor. Is it awesome by east coast standards (where good Italian food is plentiful)? Absolutely not. Is it good enough? Absolutely. In fact, based on what you can get around here, it is incredible. The pizza is even edible, though the crust leaves a bit to be desired.
Review Source:I really like this place! They have AWESOME service and are great with kids. I love how they renovated it too, very classy. They bring kids crayons and paper, and were very helpful with distracting them when they got a little fussy waiting for food. I love the bread and olive oil that they bring you in the beginning, very tasty. Their pizza and lasagna are delicious as well. On windy days the water splashes up against the windows, just love that. What an amazing view too! Such a great place to eat. Not the best Italian food I have ever had, but very very tasty and reasonable prices.
Review Source:We went their for my birthday dinner last night. Â The service was attentive and friendly. Â I told her I was really picky about my veal and she said the chef assured her it was good tonight. Â I had the veal involtini and Robert had a zuppa di mare with salmon, scallops, mussels, calamari, etc. Â And a side of cannelloni. Â Well, we didn't need the cannelloni but we brought it home and finished all of the delicious food and sauteed vegetables on our plates. Â And, I bought a bottle of their fabulous dipping oil to bring home. Â I used to buy it at their old Terraciano restaurant. Â The view at this location is way better and the food is just as good. Â Enjoy it!
Review Source:While we were seated straight away, that was the highlight of the service. Â We were seated in an area with a wonderful view but the tables were crammed together chair back to chair back. Â Everyone had to sit with their bellybuttons sitting on the table and be very still so as not to jostle the person behind you. Â The kid behind me felt so crowed he moved his chair into the aisle (as did my companion). Â Def not comfortable and no amount of whispering could keep your conversations private. Â The menu's were given to us as we were seated but waited and waited for our waitress. Â I tired to make direct eye contact with several employees, other waitresses, the bar tender, the bus boy, and all managed to avoid me. Â Finally, the hunger won out and loudly called out to a waitress who was meandering by again avoiding eye contact. Â She said she would let our waitress know we were ready to order AND then we waited several more minutes! During the course of the meal we had to ask for items twice and there were long absences in between our watiress visits. Â It was not crowded in the resturant.
It was a challenge trying to order drinks. Â When I asked if the iced tea was sweetened or not (I like not so I can add my own sweetner) she told me I could add raspberry flavor. Â I was looking for a yes or no answer and tried again. Â This time I got a long and vauge answer about how it wasn't that sweet. Â Again, still didn't know if there was sugar in it. Â I gave up and just stuck with the water. Â My dining companion was also interested in the tea, clearly more than I was because she tried again. Â She received a different vauge answer. Â Finally, my companion put a stop to the waitress nonstop yet vauge answer by being direct. Â "I'm a diabetic and sweetened tea could put me in a coma. Â It's a yes or no question. Â Is the iced tea sweetened?" Â The waitress sheepishly admitted yes. Â What is the big deal with trying to sell us on tea?
The food was bland and absolutely NOT worth the price. Â We had the clams and chicken marinara. Â It was edible but not enjoyable. Â I will not eat here again.
This is a tough one. I REALLY want to like this restaurant. It's close to my house, has a fabulous view and I love italian food. However, I'm just not impressed. The food is okay. Not bad, not great, just okay. I have had the gnocchi, the meatball paninni, the chicken paninni, the alfredo, and their standard mixed greens salad. All of my dishes have been...eh. The alfredo was probably the worst. Just didn't have a lot of flavor which just leads me to believe they aren't using a high quality parmesan cheese to make the sauce. The better the cheese, the better the flavor. To be honest the best dish I have had here is the kid's mac and cheese. I ordered it for my son and ended up eating some of his rather than my gnocchi (not a very good sauce on this). The kid's mac and cheese was actually delicious.
I've had two desserts here and both were actually very good. I'd recommend this place for after dinner wine and dessert for sure. The view can't be beat and the restaurant is cozy, tastefully decorated (except for the fake grape vines hanging everywhere) and has friendly staff, although the service isn't the greatest.
An absolutely lovely lunch last week while fly fishing along Henderson Bay. Â The canneloni di carne, with a touch of red sauce and a touch of white sauce, topped with lightly braised, almost just wilted, spinach was perfect. Â Much more subtle and nuanced than I had expected from - what I presumed - was a typical semi-rural "EyeTalian American" joint. Â The decor is lovely (light wood tones) with white table cloths and eye-popping view across Henderson Bay coupled with attentive and helpful service. Â Damned near tempted to just drive down for lunch or dinner, and skip the fishing, next time.
Review Source:Based on the reviews, my wife and I thought we would give Massimo a try. Â It's rare that I'm ever this surprised but the food was was, at best, horrible. Â We both ordered the Alfredo. Â I would expect garlic flavor but this had so much garlic it hurt my eyes...seriously. Â The service was slow to begin with and it took almost 30 minutes to get our check. Â Maybe we got there on an off night but guess what...probably not gonna go back.
Review Source:While the food isn't anything amazing (though definitely a step above Olive Garden) the staff is friendly and the view is perfect. We stopped in right at sunset and the water looked so beautiful with the orange and pink from the sky. They have a fairly good wine selection the balsamic vinagrette dressing was tasty (though I ordered Italian...). I'll go back but avoid the salmon...the sauce was a bit fishy
Review Source:Overall good restaurant. Friendly prompt service, delicious food, good prices, beautiful views of the water, family friendly, full bar and large wine list. Only thing I wished (which is why I gave 4 stars rather than 5) was that there were more selections on the menu. Otherwise superb.
Review Source:Having read the review from m. s. we were a bit wary-but my inlaws live nearby so we gave it a try. The place was pretty full even at 6pm, so we were glad we had reserved a window seat, as the view is fantastic. Also happy to report the bread was very fresh. Service was pleasant and generally attentive, altho water glasses a bit slow to be filled at times (a pet peeve). Two of us had pasta, which was served in large portions and flavorful; chicken and fish entrees were also good-sized and satisfying. We were too full for dessert! Â We also mourn the Beach House, but Massimo's is a safe option for decent Italian at a reasonable price, and a great view.
Review Source:My family and I have been eating here since they opened (and while Massimo was cooking at a place off Judson in Gig Harbor). Â We have enjoyed every visit!!! Â
Food: Â Great! Â They are willing to make anything the way you order. Â Penne Massimo is amazing (I sometimes get it with chicken). Â Portion size was good. Â They have great bread and salads so there is usually leftovers for lunch the next day. Â Good wine selection too!!!
Atmosphere: Â Beautiful. Â You can't beat sunset at the Purdy Spit!
Service: Â Very willing to accommodate even the most annoying patrons. Â On my last visit, my girlfriends and I came to eat after a long day of wine tasting. Â Our server was more than willing to handle a table full of giggly (and drunk) teachers on spring break. Â
Can't ge better Italian in Gig Harbor or Tacoma!!!!
My wife and I went there this summer. Â We ordered exactly what the waiter reccomended. Â It was awsome! Â I am picky too. Â I don't know if we were just there on a good night or what be we had a much different expierence that the other posts here.
One other cool thing. Â It was a hot summer night when we were there and it was fun watching the local teens jump off the bridge a dusk.
This is a pretty reasonably priced casual dining experience..so even though I still mourn the loss of the Beach House.. I did expect much better then Olive Garden. Â Ive been here 3 times. Â I thought the calamari starter was excellent but really really small for the price. Â Even though it's great, I really felt ripped off by the size. Â Im not expecting Olive Garden sizes either.
However, the seafood dishes have always been brimming with shellfish and a great deal for the price. Â A little bland, but I think the chef is just light on the salt which suits me fine because nothing is worse then over salted pasta dishes.
The olive oil was okay, the bread was disappointing. Â I dont know if it was stale or it's just bad bread. Â But it was bad every time. Â Either way, I wish they would not serve it and make my app size bigger or serve tasty bread, not cardboard.
I think this is a meh- okay restaurant with a great view and ambiance. Â I really enjoy the tables in the room with the fireplace at sunset. Â I also really like the bar there. Â The options for a decent bar that serves hard alcohol in GH are pretty limited. Â
All in all, it is one of the best things we have going in Gig Harbor at the moment so that is worth something... and incredibly sad.
This is our second trip here for dinner and my second review. Â We went on Sunday August 9th at 6 pm. Â We were seated promptly, our Waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about the specials and I again had the special Linguini pescatore. Â The seafood was fresh and there was plenty of it and it was all tasty. Â Hubby had spagetti w/meatballs, our food was good and hot when we got it. Girls had the macaroni and cheese which I think is their white sauce with mostacioli noodles. Â They ate every bite and we all had plenty of food. Â Another great experience.
