I decided to have my 26th birthday at Mavericks. Â I wanted to try something different and I figured a country bar close to home was the way to go. Â I called ahead and told them that I would be coming in with a group of about ten people and they told me that they would reserve two tables for us and that I wouldn't have to pay cover since it was my birthday.
It think it was a $6 cover since there was a live band, which was actually fun top 40s country music. Â They also had line dancing lessons, but as I mentioned in my review of Cadillac Ranch, I suck at line dancing and most of the people who come for the lessons are already good line dancers. Â I felt a little stupid out there with them even though I grew up in Tennessee where line dancing was a part of our gym curriculum. Â Eventually, my girlfriends and I decided that we were going to dance the way we wanted and had some fun.
The drinks here are fairly cheap and you can order bar food pretty late. Â I wish there was a younger crowd here, it was mostly older for the line dancing lessons and then the place was empty about midnight.
I want to return for a nuts and bolts night soon!
I was excited to have a local country bar again and couldn't wait to go. I got together a large group and we went last night. We paid 17 full cover charges, 3.50 for beer, and 2.75 for a coke. Not outrageous but I certainly don't feel as though I got my money's worth. The staff was somewhere between rude and disconnected and the music was pitiful at best. They played about 12 country songs, 4 Brad Paisley, 3 Blake Shelton, 2 Sugarland, and of course, 1 Taylor Swift song. After that, the music
devolved into some mix of dance infused with a few bad Lynard Skynard mash-ups. Needless to say, not a great experience. Maybe I'll try again in the future.
