We have gone to McKeown's ever since they were located in the outlet malls in Seaside ten years ago, and we've never been disappointed. Besides having a basset hound in their logo, they serve good food with excellent service.
This is our second visit to the location in downtown Seaside. It was easy to find free parking, and the restaurant features a French sidewalk cafe style along one wall with well-spaced tables and a bar at the back of the room. Since we were last there, they expanded into the building next door and added an Irish pub.
There was a slight delay seating us in an almost empty place when we came in shortly before noon. Two servers took care of the whole room. I had the Prime Rib sandwich, and my wife had the pulled pork. My sandwich was thick and juicy, and the sauce was wonderful. Unfortunately, I hit a pocket of gristle on my first bite. Having known some hard times, I just chewed through it and the rest was tender and fine. Â My wife said her sandwich was also tasty.
I had a diet coke because we were driving up the coast later, so I couldn't taste their fine selection of local brews on tap.
All in all, just fine. Nothing special, just solid bar food and service.
By far my favorite place in Seaside....anyone who knows me will tell you this! Â Great family atmosphere, great menu with plenty of choices. Â During the off-season they have Wednesday $10 steak night that is fantastic! Â My favorite salad is the Chicken Blue Cheese Salad, it has a yummy champagne vinaigrette dressing. Â My husband either gets the ribeye or the chicken Marsala, both excellent. Â The chefs are well skilled on properly cooking your steak to order. Â You can tell that the owners take pride in what they do and they care about giving the customer the best experience possible! Â
P.S. They have an awesome Irish Pub behind the restaurant with a killer Irish Coffee!
I was there last week for dinner and I have to agree with Sunshine F's review about the confusion about vegetarian/vegan options. My friend is vegan due to health issues and the waiter said there is only a salad and the black bean burger that can be vegan. That's it. He also said the rice is made with chicken stock, he even said he confirmed with the chef. I saw the owners response about it being vegetarian and it is not. I had told her what I read about what the owner claimed and she was happy before we got there. But I am glad we asked the waiter and he said that was incorrect, it was made with chicken stock and they could not make it without. This would have made her have made her very sick.
Review Source:Never a disappointing mean here. I've had the breakfasts-Bacon slices are thick and perfectly cooked. Potatoes are the red potatoes sliced and cooked to perfection. Dinners-One of the very best Filet Mignon's I've ever eaten. I'd go so far as to say it almost melted in my mouth like butter! Muah! Loved it!
Review Source:vegetarian dish has chicken stock!!!!
We live part time in Seaside. McKeown's used to be ok. It's gone downhill. The menu has less items than ever. Last night, I asked the server if there were any vegan items. She said only the chopped salad, if you hold the egg. My husband asked why not the vegetarian teriyaki stir fry. She said, "Well, it's vegetarian, not vegan, because the rice has chicken stock." Shocked, we explained to her that chicken is not vegetarian either. She said she knew that, but that's how it is on their menu. I asked if I could speak to the manager, or the chef, to be certain. She answered that she is sure that is has chicken stock, and there "is no manager here--we all just work here the same". We left.....
This place used to have ok food. Even my non-vegetarian husband has noticed all of the dishes have gone downhill. It's always cold in there also (which is why I didn't want the salad--I wanted to warm up).
Much better right down the street is Yummy. Also Guido and Vido's. Drive to Gearhart to the McMenamin's, or Great Wall. But avoid McKeown's. Expensive and poor quality. And, very bad practice saying on the menu something being vegetarian and it being with chicken stock!
For vegetarians or vegans, all of the above are good. There are no vegan breakfast options (unless you like oatmeal) around. The oatmeal at McKeowns is not good, so go to McMenamins, or Maggies.
I almost decided to go somewhere else... The place was almost empty and not a single employee in sight. After waiting a few minutes, we sat ourselves, went back up to grab some menus and then continues to wait. Our server was nice and the food was great! The seafood was very fresh. Pricing is okay. Glad we didn't leave but I might not come back.
Review Source:Amazing Food and service, especially if you are served by Danielle. Â We hit up this place during happy hour and I got a prawns ceaser salad and then a BBQ quesadilla for like $11.00. Â Best Quesadilla I have ever had. Â I had a few of my Mom's fries and they were fantastic as well.
I can't recommend this joint enough. Â I've been coming to Seaside for years and this was the best meal I have ever purchased.
My girlfriend and i are the dreaded PORTLAND TOURISTS -- watch out Seaside, we're here to see your sights and get all up on you!
Anyway, we went to McKeown's, and I'm not gonna lie to you, it was a festival for the senses, specifically the taste-related ones.
For appetizering, we had the fried artichoke hearts. My woman doesn't like artichoke hearts, and she consumed them with a fervor that nearly equaled my own.
For entrees, I had salmon stuffed with Dungeness crab. Let me repeat myself: SALMON STUFFED WITH MOTHER FUCKING DUNGENESS CRAB. The salmon was flaky and crispy and perfect, and the crab was similarly prepared to perfection.
She had the straight-up crab, priced to market ($35 this time). It was thick and meaty, and the server boy assured us that this particular crab was a racist, so we could feel good about doing the crab community a favor. She tore into that thing like it had hurled a racial epithet at her mother.
Both dishes had a side of some of the creamiest mashed potatoes I've enjoyed in some time (in a good way), and some perfectly grilled broccolini spears.
Jesus Christ, i almost forgot the martinis. I had a red velvet cake martini (complete with whip cream and sprinkles!), and she had a Starburst martini, which tasted the part. Both were divine. We led off the night with Bloody Marys, which were thinner than i prefer them, but still good.
Finally, dessert was peanut butter cheesecake (a bit dry, made me want a glass of milk) and caramel/craisin bread pudding (a victory).
Now, this wasn't a small tab (~$105), but for our big meal treat of the trip, I can't think of anything better.
Terribly slow service.... Especially when you have lots of servers just standing around.  We came here for the Bloody Mary that was pictured on this site....  Sad to say that it was nothing like the picture!  Served in a small daiquiri glass that was rimmed with salt.  Even though we drank through a straw we found it super salty & unpleasant!   Also ordered the fried artichoke hearts and a plate of fries.  Artichoke hearts were nothing to right home about....  What deep fried food tastes bad? :-) I think the fact that it took at  least 30-45 minutes to get served our fried food was ridiculous and we had to go find  our server to get drink refills.  2 stars for a good people watching spot. 1 star for service!
Review Source:My boyfriend has a pretty big appetite and he loves nothing better then a good breakfast buffet. We came here around 1230p which said they stopped serving the buffet at 1p. We were really worried that the food would be old and cold and they wouldn't be serving when we got there but much to our surprise fresh hot food was still being delivered. The guy at the omelet station was amazing! I was quite impressed with his ability to multitask. My favorite which I find myself craving from time to time was their Belgium waffles! Yum!!
Review Source:This is our second visit. Â We went with a group of 13 folks. Â Sonia was terrific! Â She has a great sense of humor, had terrific suggestions for food and wine parings and was able to get us our food quickly.
Everyone liked the meal they had - I felt the prices are very reasonable and perhaps reflect being a few blocks away from the ocean instead of right on the ocean. Â The ginger spiced tilapia they had on special was incredible. Â My son really enjoyed the pasta carbonara and my sister liked the wine so much that she purchased a bottle to take back with her.
There was a live musician in the place that added some nice ambiance. Â I felt this visit was much improved over our first and recommend it highly.
McKeown's is a very spacious restaurant that was able to fit all 16 of us for breakfast easily. Â They had a waitress that was very flexible and willing to work with our neediness and weird orders. Â
That said, the food here is alright. Â They serve solid breakfast fare -- I got the chicken fried steak. Â
But what sets McKeown's apart from the competition is their complimentary mini scones!
When traveling, I try not to visit the same place twice. McKeown's was an exception. Â We had breakfast Saturday and saw there was a brunch Sunday. Our Saturday breakfast was tasty - I ordered the artichoke broccoli frittata. (Definitely recommended due to jalapeno salsa. Delicious.) We figured Sunday brunch would be good. We were right! I would have paid a couple dollars more than what they were charging for the quality of the brunch. They had an omelet station, sweet, crisp waffles, red potatoes, scrambled eggs, two types of fish, coleslaw, biscuits and gravy, salad, assorted muffins and more! The waitress even remembered us from Saturday (and my decaf)! We will come back next time we're through for sure!
Review Source:There are a number of restaurants in the heart of Seaside. Thanks to Yelp, I found McKeowns.
The first time I was there was on a Friday night and they were busy. We decided to sit at the bar because we didn't want to wait for a table.
The service was OK, the drinks were good and the food was pretty good. Â We ordered the deep fried artichoke hearts (based on reviews) and they were alright. I won't order them again.
They have daily specials, including all you can eat ribs for $9.99 on Friday nights. We weren't informed of the specials when we ordered at the bar so we weren't aware until it was too late.
The next visit was on St. Paddys day and I had Shepherds Pie. The manfolk had Filet Mignon and he was elated. It was perfectly prepared and he was happy. I was happy with my order too.
All in all, it's a nice little restaurant with decent service. Â Give em' a try!
I'm having a hard time writing this review because this is the only place I have eaten in seaside. Â I like to a review a place for both what it is and what its competition is, but in this case I have no idea what the competition is like.
We came here because Yelp said it was good. Â Also, even though we were at the coast, I was in the mood for a steak. Â When I saw they had a prime NY strip on the menu, I was sold.
When I saw how thin the steak was cut, I thought that was odd. Â Who would cut a prime steak less than an inch thick? Â Then my steak was way overcooked. Â I said rare, it was cooked to medium. Â But I wasn't going to send back a prime steak just because it wasn't cooked to order. Â I mean, it's still a steak.
This is the first prime steak I have ever eaten where I had to take gristle out of my mouth. Â The steak tasted dry aged, but I find it hard to believe that was a prime steak. Â If it wasn't, that would explain the low price.
If you have never seen a prime steak on a menu for less than $30 and you want to see what the fuss is about, give it a shot. Â It is, after all, a steak. Â But this particular steak was not what it was cracked up to be. Â I can coax better flavor out of an un-aged choice steak cooked in my kitchen. Â I've never even tried to cook a prime steak. Â But then, since you aren't invited to my house, if you are in seaside, go for it.
One last thing: there is a bar right there, and while I wouldn't describe it as "rowdy", there were some good-natured cusses coming from it. Â If you don't want your kid to hear that, go somewhere else.
This is a 2.5.
We went here for breakfast.
The space is nice.
The guitarist was very good. We liked that.
The server was kind of flaky, but that wasn't so bad.
The mini scones, 5 of them ( for 3 people? how does that work?), were tasty. Tiny. But tasty.
Daughter had a kid's meal, french toast sticks and maple syrup. Her stomach hurt so she didn't eat a lot of it, but she liked what she did it. ( too much popcorn the night before, my bad).
Husband had scrambled eggs with ham, it came with potatoes and a dried up strawberry. He thought the potatoes, with their enormous chunks of undercooked onion, weren't so good.He ate all the eggs.I didn't hear a "yum" or a "gross", so they must have been adequate.
I sucked up my fear and ordered crab cakes benedict. I'm so dumb.( I should know if they aren't my Aunt Audrey's crabcakes I have no business eating them... I keep being so darn hopeful, like Charlie Brown and the football...)
The eggs were perfectly poached, and the hollandaise wasn't bad, I give them that. The little fancy piece of crab leg on top of each egg was cold, and one had a shell. The worst part? the fear part?
Well, the crab cakes themselves were orange ( why were they orange? There was some spice mix on the table with a McKeown"s label on it, I think they put a lot of that in and it had turmeric and paprika in it...ugh) They had way too much celery, onion, green pepper, and were mushy... I don't know why they were mushy. I didn't eat much of them. I noticed the woman at the table next to us didn't eat hers either. I wasn't a fan of the potatoes or my dried up strawberry either.
My orange juice was a ok.
I don't think we will go back here.
We did like that guitarist, he was very good. We tipped him well on the way out.
I concur with the other reviewer, the Fried Artichokes are not to be missed. Lightly battered with a lemon aioli dip, these retained the shape and texture of the original delicious artichoke hearts. I've never had anything like it. I could have polished the whole happy hour portion off on my own, but I was trying to be nice and share.
The rest of the food wasn't particularly memorable, but was good for the price at happy hour. I felt the regularly-priced entrees seemed very overpriced. Atmosphere is sort of strange; it seems to be trying to be like a bistro, but it seems too big and impersonal. The service on the night we went was very, very, very slow. They seemed understaffed, but the waitstaff which was present seemed to be trying their best. Still, it gets old having to wait so long for simple things like an initial round of water and, at the end, the check.
If you can duck in during happy hour, take advantage and definitely get the 'chokes. Otherwise I'd go elsewhere.
The hotel we stayed at suggested McKeown's for their breakfast buffet, but usually sleeping through breakfast, we checked it out for dinner.
I couldn't decide between a cheeseburger or a turkey melt, and I was lucky enough to have a husband trying to make the same difficult decision, so I got half of each. The cheeseburger was good quality, but there wasn't anything unique about it, this didn't bother me one way or the other but I liked the Turkey Melt better. The french fries were very good and addictive.
The gentleman singing and playing guitar was a nice touch to the atmosphere. I could have sat and listened to him all night.
First night in Seaside, I'm looking for some seafood. McKeown's is close and is listed as a "seafood" restaurant. Â When we showed up I couldn't figure out if I had walked into a women's boutique or a restaurant. But it had to be a restaurant because women's boutique shops have a single style. McKeown's is quite schizophrenic: coffee shop window seating, cellar storage wine display, ficus trees, wicker seating straight out of the 80's, crab tank, pub table bar area, corrugated metal decorative booth awnings, sports on flat screen TVs, chalkboard specials of the day.... Â It's multiple personality disorder transfers to the menu. They just don't know what they want to be.
For a seafood listed restaurant they had surprisingly little of it. I mean you could get it in a creamy pasta that all but drowns the flavor, or on the appetizer menu, but only two legitimate dinner entree menu items that starred seafood, one being fish and chips... Â To be honest this was more of a steak/burger/sandwich menu than anything else... Â If this restaurant were a dog it would be a mutt. Â
As for dinner, it was OK, or at least my wife's was, but she ordered items from the  appetizer menu. The artichoke hearts were interesting in a good way (never had anything like fried artichokes before). The steamed clams were thing we ordered, but sadly everything else we tasted was just pretty lackluster.  Not good enough to write about but not bad enough to send back to the kitchen.
Stopped in for lunch, my husband wanted fish n chips and I wasn't very hungry but was just going to have something small/cheap. Â I found their prices to be very high for lunch and for what we had, it was just expensive. Â Their lunch specials were $10 and up. Â My husband got the fish n chips. Â He said they weren't great but the fries were good. Â We asked for ranch with the fries and the waitress said she would have to charge us...I hate it when places do that, especially in places that try to be fancy. Â I had the triple grilled cheese with basil and tomatoes. Â There were a couple flecks of basil and a couple small slices of tomatoes, it came with a tiny portion of slaw. Â Overall, the food was okay, not worth the price, the service was okay but nothing was great about this place.
The place looked pretty nice. Â They do have lots of tables in the windows so one person gets blinded and the other sits in the window cill.
Better food than you are going to get in most of Seaside.
The regular Sunday bunch is okay, but the Mothers Day brunch which we have had 2 out of the last 3 years is pretty good, and well priced.
I have been here for lunch before as well, and enjoyed the food. Â Service can be a bit slow(but you are at the coast where it is always that way)
This was my first trip to the Oregon coast and dinner at McKeown's helped make it a great one. Deep fried artichoke hearts? Check. Â Crab stuffed salmon? Check. Slow cooked ribs? Check. A couple Black Butte Porters? Check. Â
I did not expect too much from McKeown's just by looking at the place. It seemed like an Applebees with local touch. I was wrong. The only thing McKeown's and Applebees have in common is the noise level. Â Don't go here if you are looking for a really quiet romantic dinner. Â McKeown's is a little loud, but not so loud you can't carry on a conversation.
The service was great. Our waitress gave us plenty of time to relax and snack on an appetizer before ordering dinner. I really dislike having my main dish come to the table before I finish my appetizer. Our waitress seemed to get the idea that we were taking our time and did not want to be rushed.
The food was very good and the menu was extensive. I don't think anyone needs to worry about finding something they like on the menu. The slow cooked ribs were prepared just right and the stuffed salmon was not overcooked and had great flavor.
All this. . . . for $48.00.
I totally expected this place to be ho-hum (there were homecoming kids there). Â I was wrong. Â Yay!
I got angel hair pasta with meat sauce and Italian sausage. Â Huge portion of pasta, great tasty sauce and a huge split log of a sausage on top. Â It was very good and I even took leftovers home (something I never do while staying at a hotel). Â
My companion got a smoked chicken salad that blew her mind. Â We both loved the sourdoughy table bread, too.
My one complaint is that the stupid weather was so windy and rainy that they closed off their front entrance to keep diners dry and trying to find the side entrance was a bit of a pain. Â More signage is needed for those blustery evenings.
My mom and I went to the coast for a few days after graduation. Â We were camping near Tillamook and got rained out on our 3rd night so we decided to get a hotel room to weather our last night on the coast. Â We ended up in Seaside and our hotel guy told us about the $10 steaks at McKeown's. Â But we wanted to check out what else was in the area...
After walking in the misty rain (down to the Lewis and Clark statue), after ducking into a print shop to avoid a downpour, after making a few purchases there, and after reading the menus of restaurants along the way, we decided that $10 steak sounded like a pretty good deal.
Aaand this place has $3.50 margaritas. Â They aren't lackluster, "do these even have tequila in them?" margaritas either. Â They're simply delicious.
For dinner, my mom got the $10 steak and I got the salmon (not $10). Â Both steaks, the beef and the salmon, were top-notch and healthy portions. Â They didn't skimp by serving us 3-4 oz. of meat. Â I'd say it was more like 9-10 oz. of salmon. Â Plus, the salad (and honey mustard dressing in particular) was divine, and the fresh, warm sourdough bread was melt-in-your-mouth good.
And the service? Â Our server was polite, attentive, and we didn't have to ask for anything. Â He was always prompt and returned to check on us just enough.
I'd highly recommend dining here for dinner if you're in Seaside. Â If I make it back out that way I'll definitely drop in again.
Wake up hungover on the coast in search of calories, STAT? Â McKeown's is a fine choice. Â On a pretty sleepy Sunday morning, we stopped in seeking breakfast cocktails and food. Â Satisfied on both counts! Â
Sundays boast a full brunch menu and an all-you-can-eat buffet. Â While the buffet was tempting, I went with a menu item solely on price alone... everything i would've gotten from the buffet for a few bucks less. Â But if you are starvin', Marvin, that buffet is a great deal for around $11: Â fruit, pastries, salad, omelet bar, potatoes, eggs, meats, etc. Â
My bloody mary was pretty good- very thick and the Thai mix (which I've had before, purchased from the liquor store) is not named very well... there is really nothing "Thai" about it. Â But it was delicious, nonetheless. Â
I went with a veggie omelet, which came topped with avocado and sour cream, with a side of potatoes (my favorite part of the meal, actually), fruit, and we all got little plates of pastry bites as appetizers. Â Our server was very friendly, and accommodated our requests for 6 different checks with no problem. Â We were totally comfortable at our large window table, and I would definitely waste some calories at McKeown's again next time I'm seeking brunch in Seaside.
Thank god there isn't the ridiculous and overrated wait that comes from Pig-n-Pancake.
The front dining area is huge, open, and spacious. Even if the place is busy, you're not going to feel cramped. The one wall has cute umbrellas, to imitate a sidewalk cafe. The big front window has bench seating. There is a huge bar in the middle.
The breakfast menu has typical breakfast fare, eggs, pancakes, waffles, bacon, benedicts, etc. Sundays boast a huge brunch buffet for only $11.99. That's right in line with any of the prices on the menu, so it's a great deal if you didn't already partake in your hotel's continental breakfast. We went to take a look at the buffet goods in the other room, and it's a pretty good size buffet, complete with omelet station. Awesome.
A Thai bloody mary was ordered, as well as a potato dish. Roasted reds covered in cheese, bacon, peppers, and onions topped with an egg of your choice. I was taking a chance considering most breakfast potatoes suck. They're always the most underrated portion of breakfast. I figured if they had a whole meal dedicated to their potatoes that has to be saying something, right?
Overall, it was a little better than meh. All I can say is thank god for all the toppings. The skillet looked good, but the potatoes were a little undercooked, some more than others. You can't win them all, I guess. I was glad to get my hands on a bottle of Tapatio, that's for sure. The bloody was thick, much thicker than I was used to. It was a little less spicy than I like, too. After a night of drinking, it did the job.
I think what this place lacks in food quality, it makes up for in ambiance. It's still much better than most other breakfast options in town.
"Why did I order? What was I thinking?" pounded around in my head as I saw my breakfast sandwich resting atop our servers right forearm on the way to our table. I'd just eaten what I thought was a light breakfast at the hotel for free, hence the order in the first place. When the food started coming, from across the room I knew I wasn't going to have enough space for it.
Either way, it was pretty tasty. I think I make a better egg sandwich (and I do, it's proven) but the breakfast sandwich that sat in front of me taunting, "Come on loser, you ordered me. Now eat me, ALL OF ME!" I tried and I failed. Had I not had one hard boiled egg and an english muffin with cream cheese (apparently that's enough to fill me up -- who knew?) I would have devoured the whole thing. I liked the real medium cheddar cheese they used on it in place of the processed nonsense most places use. I think it might even have been Tillamook. How coastal of them!
The potatoes were a bit 'meh', but the rest of the sandwich was alright. It could have used a different bread; it was served on a 6" sandwich roll like you'd find at Fred Meyer.
The inside of the cafe was super nice. French paintings and cut-in-half umbrellas lined one wall. There was plenty of light by the plenty of windows and the seating was comfortable. Some of which may have come from an Asian restaurant by the looks of the chairs.
Food was eaten, bills were paid, tips were left and then uncomfortably full from breakfast, we ventured out into the many tourist traps of Seaside.
Ok, breakfast, gotta eat it, right? Might as well eat it here! The scones are phenomenal when they come from the kitchen, from the brunch buffet they are a little dry. The Benedicts are pretty good, thin sliced country ham, hollandaise that could use a little citrus zest... but that's covered, because there is a slice of orange on the plate. The potatoes could use a sprinkle of the seasoning that graces every table, and the poached eggs on the benny were overcooked. Eh, you can't win them all, right?
The hot cocoa was amazing, too. :)
Poor service, bad food . .. ugh wasted morning. Â Service was so slow. Â It was amazing. Â We ordered our food and then learned that there was a buffet in the back. Â Thanks for not telling us. Â I'm guessing that the delay was the kitchen attempting to get food out for the buffet. Â Our food arrives and it just doesn't taste good. Â I actually spit my food out. Â Anyway, take your chances here.
I will stick to PigNPancake, my dad had an amazing crab omelette there and I must try it when I return.
Hello again with the 'decent' food and poor service. Â I place decent into quotes due to my pasta being less than mediocre. Â I wanted a carb bomb for a long day ahead of me. Â I noticed that the 6 dishes on the pasta menu were all angel hair - Alfredo being one of the sauces they offer. Â No biggie, I ordered broccoli and chicken Alfredo - on angel hair. Â I assumed they only used angel hair to speed things up in the kitchen, and I was hungry, so I let it slide.
Jump 45 minutes of waiting.
Waitress comes back to table and apologizes for lunch taking so long. Â She then blames my pasta dish as being what is holding everything up. Â Seriously? Â Have you ever cooked angel hair? Â It takes literally 4 minutes. Â Blame the chicken.... or blame the dish next to me with prosciutto-wrapped stuffed chicken breast.
Jump another 30 minutes.
Lunch begins to filter in. Â My pasta had obviously been snapped into 2-inch pieces prior to being boiled - a la fourth grade cafeteria. Â The chicken was decent, but the broccoli was done to the point of being nearly translucent. Â
I leave you with the 'decent' claim being justified by the fact that my cohorts were all satisfied with their meals. Â Was it due to them having to wait an hour? Â Perhaps....
All this and the restaurant was neither dead, nor packed. Â There were patrons walking by our table asking, "How did you get bread?!" - so I know we were not alone this day.
Who would have thought you could find so much good food in one small city? After 2 visits to McKeown's, I'm adding it to my list of favorite Seaside locations.
We went here for dinner recently on a trip to Seaside since it was located close to our hotel. When we arrived we were sat right away and had drinks very quickly. The server was extremely pleasant and fun. Probably the best serve my husband and I have had in a very long time. Drinks were full, food was hot, and bonus points for making us laugh.
Anyways, we both ordered steaks, and they were excellent. Way better than some of the pricey ones we have had at some upscale steakhouses. My husband really liked the chicago steak. It was a relief to find a place that knows what Medium is. Too many places over or under cook steak. For dessert with both had chocolate mousse, which was excellent.
Good food, good service. Another gem hidden away in Seaside.
This is hands down my favorite place to eat out in Seaside. Â I am always surprised when we go to a place by chance and it's good. Â Then go back on a later trip and it's just as good or even better!
It has a nice open floor plan with live plants and the backroom is setup like a European street cafe'. Â I was happy to see they also have an upscale Sunday Brunch with an omelet chef.
Once again, we were hit with the "good food poor service" plague-I hate that plague!
Mckown's is a pretty nice little restaurant. It has a bar, hardwood floors, metal picnic type tables (yeah, very weird, I know) mixed with more traditional tables and all the other common fare.
Food here was good (approaching a 4). We had steamed clams, steak, oysters-all of which were tasty. The service, as mentioned though, was bad. I believe they only had one server (on a Sat. night, really?) and everything was so slowwwww. When she did come, however, the server was pleasant enough.
All in all, an A-ok experience; but I'd hesitate going back again........it's the coast and there are just too many other options!
