We had a party of 16 and were seated upstairs. Service was prompt. Ordered the Irish Meatballs. The meatballs were served on a bed of mashed potatoes and then covered in a mulligan stew. The stew had pulled pork and veggies and was fantastic. The food reviews on yelp are pretty brutal but i highly recommend what i had

McP's Owners Please Take Note: Yelp and other on line Reviews DO Matter
The last time I was at McP's was in November of 2012. It was fine. I even bought a shirt, as I have happy memories of years past. I had my first Red Bull and Vanilla Vodka there, when the drink was brand new, and the wait staff and bartenders were excited about working there. It was the place to be in the late 1990's and early 2000's. Back to the present: notice I said, fine, not great. The waitress was very kind, but the place was dead. It was happy hour, and to be honest, the bartender gave off an off  an odd vibe. That's California-speak for: I didn't feel welcome.  In the past the food was great-nachos, quesadillas. The black and tans were the reason I came. What saddens me is that after reading the current reviews, and not just the Yelp reviews, my impulse is to spend my money elsewhere. I do not want attitude as a side order to mediocre food. When I go out, I want it to be a treat. McP's was always a treat for me, but that had changed. I never had a second thought about spending my money there. Please owners, read these reviews; take note, and give McP's some much needed CPR.

No stars! My husband really wanted to go there as he had been there before. We went in and there were many open tables yet the hostess suggested that we go upstairs. We did and there were at least 2 open tables. We saw no wait to be seated sign and we sat down! A very unfriendly waitress stormed over and told us they were on a wait, yet no one was waiting there! She offered us no alternative or wait time and walked away!  I will say this again the hostess told us to go upstairs. When we left the hostess was not at her post or we would have talked to her. I won't bother this place again! I suspect this is why every other place in town was lively and this one....not so much!

Stopped in on St Patricks day for something Irish. We had Reuben Sandwich and Corn Beef sandwich both were good. There are plenty of TV to watch, sitting was ackward, service was ok.

Apparently this place needs new bartenders. Having seen some of the other complaints about how people have been treated by bartenders, I can sympathize. My review has nothing to do with the food (didn't manage to eat any) or the waitresses/hostesses (pretty nice).

So, here's my complaint. Me and my friend wanted to watch a World Baseball Classic game on a Saturday night. Yeah sure, not the most popular sporting event, but whatever. Bearing this in mind, we went to a few places during the middle of the day to ask if they had MLB Network so we could watch the game. Finally we got to McP's, where the very nice waitress said they did. So we told her we'd be back later that night to watch it.

We get back, a bit before the game. The place is now pretty busy. We are seated by a TV, as we requested, but now they're having some difficulty changing the channel on that particular TV. Alright, no problem, these things happen. The same waitress we talked to earlier in the day knew we were there to watch that game, and that if we couldn't get it, we'd leave. She told the bartender, who was in control of the TVs, if he would change one of the other TVs (this place has a lot). From across the room, I very clearly heard him say "Absolutely NOT."

OK, they don't want to change any of the other TVs, which, by the way, were not being watched by anybody that I could see. But whatever, they don't have to change the TVs if they don't want to, the price being, we decided to leave.

On the way out, we walked past the bartender. My friend looked, just LOOKED at the guy, and he snorted really loud, rolled his eyes, and said, "What the hell is HER problem?" I was surprised and annoyed, and looked at the bartender, who now turned his attention to me. Immediately he goes full Jersey Shore, "What, WHAT? You got a problem? You got somethin' to say?"

So, yeah, I told him, it's pretty stupid to treat your customers that way, cuz you lose business. They lost ours, and, dear reader, if you're smart, they'll lose your business too.

Went to Tahoe with a group of friends over the weekend and while we were walking around downtown on Saturday night, we saw this place and decided to hit it up.

One of my friends who was ahead of me decided to just order all of our beers and I gave her my money. She paid the bartender for our three beers, and we watched the bartender pour two of them. She grabbed the two and walked outside. The bartender looked at me and I told him that she had just ordered my beer. He said he had poured it already and she had just walked out with it. I said no, he poured two, there was one more he hadn't poured yet. But he refused to pour it. So I went outside and got my friend to come back in with me to prove he hadn't poured it. And he STILL refused to pour the beer WE HAD ALREADY PAID FOR. We insisted we weren't jipping him and he truly had not ever poured us a third beer. He finally rolled his eyes, poured the beer, and slammed it in front of us, telling us to take the beer and to never come back. Um, excuse me? We still tried to insist that we weren't trying to be problematic or to start any trouble at all, that it was just a big misunderstanding, but he flat out ignored us and told us to leave.

I will never return to this bar, except to find this asshole of a bartender and spit in his face. However if you decide to come here anyway, the dude has long black hair and wears glasses. Go ahead and spit in his face and tell him I sent you.

Good place to kick back and enjoy a few rounds.  You can even order food if you get hungry.  The chicken nachos were great.  Piled high and layered with ingredients throughout.

There is a pool table downstairs.  Firepits outdoors.  And a live band on the weekends upstairs.

It's a dive bar.  So come here with the right expectations and you should have a good time.

The paper said happy hour until 6 no dice over at 5.  21 dollars for a soggy burger chips a cup of soup and a hard cider.  I noticed the male bartenders must be friends with the owner because they are always rude.  I would have given it 1 star except for the pretty waitresses.

Three stars based on the food and ambiance of the place, upgraded to four because of (a) live music several nights a week including Monday, and (b) because of a friendly, highly competent waitperson who was working her backside off but remained cheerful and attentive despite the workload.

Because of the live music went twice on a hyper-extended weekend; first time it was bar snacks and beer, the second dinner and beer. Snacks (pub spuds aka potato skins and chicken satay skewers) were decent although nothing to become emotionally attached to. Dinner was on about the same level -- Shorty loved the Athenian Pasta which had enough garlic in it to be able to smell it while it was still in the kitchen; my Irish Meatballs although nothing spectacular were definitely filling, a good base to do some drinking on top of. Speaking of drinking beer was reasonably priced; on the other side of beer drinking their bathrooms were well-maintained, albeit a weird hike downstairs.

Catch Mark Wilson on Mondays if you can -- he's quite talented and a lot of fun. And if anybody from McP's management is monitoring this, drop me a note, and we'll try to figure out who the waitperson is, she deserves a raise.

A group of us went on Sunday (9/9/12) to watch football and have a few pre-noon adult beverages.

Our server was very accommodating.  She put on all of the games we asked for and even turned off the music and replaced it with Commentary from the Red Zone channel.

We did not try any food as we came straight from breakfast.

The drink prices were great (4 Corona's for $10).

Great place for bringing a group and sitting outside in their "beach area"... I was here with family during a wedding weekend mid-august. We went twice! It is conveniently located across from the outdoor Heavely village which has many touristy restaurants and shops but this bar is mainly for the locals. Good vibes and live music!

Local dive bar - but not in a good way.

Be prepared to wait for service, as it's always understaffed. Management should know better in a resort town - especially for what they're charging.

The greasy food is meh and overpriced: $9 for nachos, $10 for a burger, $15 for a French dip. Mine arrived lukewarm, and I decided not to send it back because it took so long in the first place.

This place needs a good cleaning, half a dozen more employees, and a wider beer list.

So I have always driven by this place and finally decided to stop and unfortunately that was a mistake. The first problem I ran across was an Irish pub with only two draft Irish beers. I ordered chips and salsa for my family and they brought out chips with warm Costco salsa. I ordered the guacamole burger and got a Costco burger. Also I wish they had fries here (kettle chips only). My brother and father ordered the Shepherds Pie and it was very greasy an they couldn't even finish it.

The price killed me when it came back as $65 for 3 adults and a child's meal.

The bonuses were fantastic service and really good live music. I would treat this as bar to get beer at versus a restaurant to take my family too.

Great place for Live Music and good food! They have a fantastic outdoor area with bon fires and wood picnic tables. Upstairs has seating on their outdoor deck so you can people watch on Tahoe Blvd./Stateline.

The service was very fast.  I had Shepherd's Pie and it was filling and a little salty, but it was great comfort food. Big portions. Though the waitress forgot the entree salad.

    Prices are reasonable.

There is dancing if the band 's music allows for it. The music was classic rock when we went.

The crowd is casual.  The decor and feel of the place is perfect for the Tahoe scene. Wood facade and  low lighting.

The one downfall is that they have a small bar on the first floor with a pool table, which you have to walk through...so the space gets a little tight. There are some TV's in their to watch sports. But again, it's a little cramped.

Great place! The best salt rim on my bloody mary, great corned beef, and awesome service.

Glad we found this place on our vaca, looks like it would be a fun spot at night too. This will become a regular place we'll go when in Tahoe.

The day waitress was working her butt off.  Nice summer day plenty of visitors to the lake and you would figure that the management would get a clue.  It took about ten minutes to get water and menus.  Once that was doen we were given great service, I would give the waitress a 5 star.  Maybe the bartender needs to get out from behind the bar and help out with some tables.
The food was OK.  Nothing great, typical pub food that was heavy and filling.  We might be back for drinks during the evening but we will see.
Place gets three stars for the hard working waitress.

Have been here before for Guinness and good live music.  Despite Yelp reviews, thought I'd try it for dinner.  Big mistake.

Staff seemed to outnumber the customers - despite that, not particularly friendly nor helpful.  Too early for the band - AWFUL music being played (Hansen?  Are you serious?).

"Pub Salad" was warm and wilted - likely straight from a plastic bag that had sat in the sun too long.  Shepard's Pie (a "house specialty") was gooey, salty gravy (straight from a jar, no doubt) with hunks of broken up hamburger tossed in, covered by luke warm mashed taters.

Sorely disappointed.  Was hoping the food here would match the great pub grub at McPs in Coronado (awesome burgers).  No dice.

If you go, drink and listen to the local musicians.

    Good times when visiting Tahoe.

Great band this past weekend, with some good blues and more.

Beer selection is so-so, with Stella being the only decent option for me.  Ditch the Shock Top and replace it with Blue Moon is what I say.

Our ladies were off the hook on Friday night, ending the evening with a dip in the pool.  I knew I should have brought those jello shots!

This place is located so close to my favorite hotel that I ended up stopping in again. Big mistake. Same ordeal, no interesting people to talk to, lots of tight knit groups moving between casinos, and $8 for a Guinness Draught with 4 inches of foam on the top..... really? Who taught you how to pour a beer? "Pub" my butt!

If it wasn't for the sweet location, this place would be out of business in a single season.

I always seem to end up coming for lunch and a few beers every time I'm in Tahoe. It's across from the Heavenly gondola lift and all the high-end retail shops.

The food is always good and the beers are always cold. But like in most establishments in South Lake, it's hard to find good help. Last time I was here, I waited for at least 30 minutes for the bill to arrive! (Guess the server didn't want a tip) A few more minutes and Mc P's would have bought me lunch!

Overall, a good place, but lacks customer service goes downhill when it gets crowded.

We stopped by here on Sat night.  We only came by for drinks.  We showed up with our dogs  so we sat outside.  We had always seen what looked like fire pits outside to it looked inviting.

The fire pits (2) are very small.  It gives some ambience but you will not get warm.

The drinks were ok.  My wife ordered an Irish Coffee and it was terrible.  An Irish Pub that can't make an Irish coffee???  I can see why its a popular place, its right across from Heavenly Village and it has its own private parking.  And for that you will pay just about as much as Fire + Ice in the village.

Cozy bar with lots of TVs.  Full bar with an attentive bartender.  Music just loud enough but not too loud that you cannot have a conversation over a table.  Interior is more along the lines of divey bar than anything nice.

Simply put, just a good place to have a couple drinks and to get away from the droves of Casino-douchy-tourists or the Heavenly-Village-family-tourists.

    I'll be back for sure.

In Tahoe w no less than 5 of my favorite Paddys, looking for a quality session, we were insulted this place even suggests any resemblance to anything Irish pub-y. But ok, I'm past that. Now if only they had some staff that treated you like they wanted your business...

We had two beers and headed to a nearby casino bar. Seriously.

I took a walk down here to eat lunch and to get away from the smelly casinos.

We walked upstairs to sit on the patio. Everyone was very nice and it was an interesting crowd. I ended up ordering a beer and tacos. My boyfriend ordered a burger.  Eveything was pretty mediocre. Nothing really to write home about. The chips and salsa weren't even that good.

I have heard that this is a 'hoppin' place later at night. I'd sure come back here instead of waiting in line at the hotel bars! I think they have pool tables too!

My recomendation: Go for happy hours and drinks...not sure what else you'd wanna try..

    Food = unhappiness

Service = slow. We waited over an hour at 1pm on a Friday in a moderately busy outside dining area. Inside and by the bar was empty.

If I could give McP's zero stars, I would. For the food, that is.

Seriously, the food here was so unfathomably terrible that, for the first time ever, we had to send it back- and didn't want anything else in its place. The craziest part was that as soon as my boyfriend mentioned to the waitress that we weren't satisfied with the food she immediately understood, said that it was fine, she'd get it out of our way and take it off the tab- like it was something that happens often there.

I got a cup of the french onion soup, which I suppose was tolerable. It was kind of bland broth and they just slapped a slice of deli cheese over the top, which promptly clumped into a giant mess and was difficult to break into smaller pieces.

I ordered the chicken satay, which admittedly probably wasn't the best thing to order at a pub. But my boyfriend had the BBQ chicken quesadilla which was equally deplorable. The chicken tasted like it was microwaved, and the peanut sauce with it seemed soupy and artificially flavored. The quesadillas had the worst quality cheese ever and tasted just as microwaved as the rest of the food.

It was embarrassing to have to send food back, but the price they wanted for such low level food was ridiculous. At least our waitress was pleasant and respectful.

Don't EVER go here for a meal!

This pub was by far the friendliest bar we found in South Lake Tahoe. The crowd is fun and the drinks are cheap.

They have a covered patio that's nice to sit on and they have live music.

    I'd come here again.

Shame on us for ordering chips and salsa at a pub, but gawddamn you got the nerve to put Pace and Mission tortilla chips ON YOUR MENU??

I have no doubt that was effing PACE.  As my buddy said, "Umm, that's not worth the calories."

My burger was overcooked and dry too.  The bacon on it was great though.

Live music and drank were fine, but I think this is one of those SLT joints that knows they got you trapped and thinks it's okay to serve up a big plate of mediocrity.   Or maybe I just can't get over the Pace thing.

Dude...  Who the hell is cooking that disgusting food?  I ordered some nachos, and they tasted like straight up ass.  I mean disgusting.  I remember when I was a kid my parents would save stale bread and chips so I could feed them to the ducks...  It seriously tasted like they accidentally used their duck chips for my nachos.  Plus they were like almost 15 bucks since I had them add steak.  And dont get me started on the steak.
All in all, a waste of money.
Dude who poured my guinness did it so it had a littl shamrock in the foam.  That was the highlight of the experience.

Came here twice with Badri N. during a Tahoe trip.  It was walking distance from our cabin, so we found it on a "bar crawl" back from Harrah's.  Fortunately, McP's was on the same side of the road as our cabin, so after doing a quick jaywalk across Lake Tahoe Blvd., we were there.  Across the street, at the Embassy Suites, there was another bar, but we didn't venture in.

McP's was slightly crowded on the Saturday night we went in, but we didn't real know that until a little later.  We went up to the bar and ordered our drinks, and Badri N. was so impressed that the guy serving his Guiness took the time to pour the beer so that the outline of a shamrock formed in the foam of his beer.  I didn't get such service, but then again, I just ordered a Stella.

I noticed a sign pointing out stairs, so we decided to go upstairs, and that's where most of the crowd was.  It had a nice, covered, patio area to the side, and there was a band playing towards the back of the room upstairs.  There was an HDTV mounted fairly high on the wall that we were able to get a good view of it, even though we were seated way on the other side of it.

The next day, Badri and I wanted to go to this BBQ place nearby, but it didn't open until 3 pm, so we just kept walking up towards the casinos, and realized that McP's served food too.

I can't say the food was awesome, but I did have BBQ on my mind, so I ended up ordering the full rack of BBQ ribs.  They were good, but nothing special about them.  I ended up giving the leftovers to some homeless people in front of a Raley's later.

I like this bar, but the food wasn't all that great, so if I were to separate into two reviews, I'd give 4 stars for the bar, and 2.5 stars for the food.  Therefore, overall, I'd give a 3 star review overall.

Went here on two occassions this weekend - this review is a combination of both experiences.

Returning from Harrah's after a heavy meal followed by cigars and single malts, McP's presented an inviting break from the dreary cold of South Lke Tahoe - it was packed, even at the late hour.

Signs advertised great food, drinks and live music - McP's delivered on all three.

That evening, I got a Guinness and the bartender scored big bonus points because he poured it PERFECTLY - what a draw!  And he finished it off with the most perfect shamrock I have seen this side of Dublin!  Plus 2 stars just for that!!!

We moved upstairs where there was a live jazz band performing.  We hung out on the outside patio for a while (it is covered for winter) and then left.
~ 5 stars for ambiance, location, drinks, bartender

We returned next day for lunch.  I had the Gyros... yeah, I know, odd choice for an Irish restaurant but they had very few Irish selections.  Michael C. ordered the full rack of ribs.  His salad was good, mine (Greek salad) was meh at best - and the dressing was decidedly unappetizing.

The gyros were great - I think the meat was fresh off the spit - not the thawed kind.  The ribs were great as well - not too spicy, cooked till the meat fell off the bone - very tangy!  Of course, there were leftovers that went to a lucky dog that wew found outside with a homeless person.
~ 3 stars for the food

Waiter was very helpful, funny and attentive.  He was checking up on us regularly and made sure we got a box for the leftover ribs.
    ~ 5 stars for service

Overall, this would get a 3 stars from me.  Live jazz is an automatic plus 1.  Shamrock in my Guinness is another plus 1.

Shamrock in my Guinness - I like how that rolls off my tongue...  I wish I was in Irelend!!

5 solid stars - you can bet yer knickers I'll be back next time laddie!  Slainte!

Man oh man! I love Irish Pubs!!! Beer, meat, and potatoes. Could you ask for anything more?? Really?? Seriously, a Shepard's Pie with a pint of Guinness and you have a Bucky who is all smiles! So when we were deciding on a place for dinner tonight, McP's was at the top of my list. My mouth was salivating in anticipation... til I saw the menu. For dinner instead of Irish eats I had chicken satay, a gyro, and a Fat Tire. Now I try to keep my potty mouth in check in a lot in my reviews but WHO THE FUCK calls their establishment an Irish Pub and then has NOT ONE DAMN IRISH ITEM on their menu. Quesadillas=Yes. Hamburgers=Yes. Ribs=Yes. Philly Cheesestakes=Yes. Bangers n' Mash=No. AAARRRGGGHHHHH. St. Patrick Wept!

And the food was decent at best. No good.... angry.... irritated.... blork....ioaiuwiuhfaiuFSHIOUKKJLBVLJHVKJGCKGJCBVKAEJWB

I don't know if I went on a good day or not or my friends and I were just so starving after a day on the slopes that we would have eaten anything.

After walking around Heavenly Village for a while and finding a minimum of a 30min wait everywhere else, our 5 person group settled for McP's. The smell, walking by, was fantastic, and they had beer. What else could you possibly want? There was even a band that was warming up at about 9pm but we were way too tired to stick around for it.

We were told that there was a 20min wait but that we could got to the bar. At the bar, we found a table and that became our table. So basically we got a table in about 4min.

Because we were all about to die of hunger, we ordered some veggie nachos ($10.95). They were actually really good. It was a huge plate of chips, beans, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, jalapeos and a bunch of other things. Either way, it was great and it really helped with the hunger.

I had a Fat Tire, which was on tap, and a Meatball Supreme ($8.95). Basically, it's a meatball sub. It comes with chips and potato salad. The bread was pretty standard but the meatballs were really great. My boyfriend had the Philly Cheesesteak which was really well done.

All in all, the staff was friendly, the atmosphere was really lively and the food was pretty good.

Solid 3 star dinner.  I didn't realize it was such a hot spot in Tahoe, but the place was packed at 8pm.  We waited about 10 minutes for a table and were whisked upstairs which seemed to be a tad quieter.

Drinks were quickly brought over to our table and we ordered a plate of nachos to start.

Our meals came out relatively fast - tacos, burrito, pasta and ribs. And once we started in on our dinner, our appetizer was served.  Nothing like a huge heaping pile of chips and cheese while your having dinner.

The food was fine, we caught up with our friends while having dinner and watching a bit of ESPN.  The bill came around and it wasn't outrageous like so many of the places in Tahoe, so all in all, it was a good dinner.

Because of the general crappiness of this place, we invented a new drinking game called 3:55.  So two stars for that.

We had been planning a power hour all week (60 shots of beer in 60 min), and an irish bar looked like the perfect place.  Especially on a Monday night when it wouldn't be so crowded.

They had pitchers in plain view, but told us they weren't serving them.  Ok, so $4 pints of coors light it was.

We ordered some crappy apple pucker shots for the shot glasses.  But they came in brandy snifters.  Not so good for power hour.

Mid shot I came up with the idea for 3:55.

3:55 involves a brandy snifter and a buncha beer.  Every 4 min, you chug your 4oz of beer for 60 min.  A lame takeoff of power hour.

We weren't even being obnoxious*, but the busboy kept trying to take away our brandy snifters.

Anyway, one hour and $75 later we were moderately rip roarin, and went to go hit on some cocktail waitresses at Harrah's.  I could tell they were totally diggin my beer gut.

    *I swear.

I'm absolutely baffled by the mediocre service we received at this bar.  Seriously.  The patron to wait staff ratio was nearly one to one.  When you're only responsible for a few tables, what's the excuse for disappearing for over twenty minutes?

The saving grace was that the bartender made really delicious coffee drinks.  One extra star for that, I suppose.

I spent a night theorizing what McP's is short for.

Maybe it's short for McPricks. Because that's the type of people who populate the place. Or McPickup. Because it's packed with pricks trying to pick up. Or maybe McPoseur. Because the pricks on the pull are primarily poseurs from Heavenly.  Or is it McPricey? Because poseur pricks on the prowl purchase pints for $7.  Oh, I know, it's McPass. Because next time I promenade by the premises I'll pack in the penchant to partake of the pickup with pricks and poseurs popping back pricey pints of poorly-poured piss.
