I went here with my hubby the other night. We have lived here forever and went several years ago and were not impressed but lately I had heard a couple of good things about this place so we though, Lets recheck this out. We had been going to Don Cuco's and I was just sick of the over use of cilantro and the runny salsa. Honestly we kept going because the beers were large and Ice Cold!!. We arrived at Medranos and were seated right away, I immediately noticed that the decor had been changed, maybe they painted or something? It looked cute and I was pleasantly surprised. I consider myself a salsa connoisseur of sorts and they have very very good salsa, with warm chips, nice detail. The beers were huge and Ice cold as well. We ordered the appetizer platter and everything was delicious and swimming in cheese. SO GOOD. my rating is a 4 only because of the casualness of the restaurant, I only give 5 for super gourmet type stuff. But this is definitely the top of my list and we are looking forward to our next date night so we can go back ( we go out just him and I every other Wednesday). Pass it on. This place rocks!!!!
Review Source:Good parking, but a small place that fills up fast. Stake your place early. Great sound system, and some good karaoke singers gettin on it when I was there. $4 ICE COLD brews in the frosted goblet treatment. I didn't have any food, but the appetizers I saw people getting looked really good. I know there are a few Medrano's in the AV, but this has been my favorite one by far so far... so go get your sing on!
Review Source:Always, always, always sit on the restaurant side and NOT in the bar area unless you absolutely have to watch a game. Trust me, you will thank me. :)
My husband and I come here often and we love the restaurant atmosphere. The bar area, not so much.
The salsa is usually a good indication if the restaurant will be good for us or not and it is great! The portions are very good and the servers are very friendly. They do have daily specials and great buffet prices if that's your thing. Plenty of booths which is what we like and they do have a projector to watch television on. They have DirecTV as their satellite provider if you want to watch a game or fight.
I recommend their fajitas, beef or chicken! Love this place!
Delicious food and very friendly servers! Love this place, whether in the dining or bar area always good! Drinks are strong and cheap during happy hour! can get a little busy so service isnt always the best but what do you expect when there is one person working the whole bar!
If you arent here to drink and party go into the dining area. its awesome. definitely a go to for when i want great mexican food!!
Ate dinner there last night with a couple of friends. We are regulars at another place, but the food, service and drinks were not so good the last couple of times. The food here was very good and service fast.overall the place was very clean and all in our party were satisfied with food and drinks. The waitress did forget one salad and gave her a free margarita for the inconvenience. That's good service to me and a nice trade. The portions are big and I have a nice snack left too eat. The tortilla soup is the best I have had in a long time, Â lots of chicken, veggies and avocado's.The chips were hot and never an empty bowl. salsa was very good too.
Review Source:This is a great place for food, drinks, and karaoke. Â Happy Hour is from 1pm to 7:45pm... they have $2 margaritas and free appetizers. You can't beat it!
Karaoke happens every evening except Sunday... starts about 8:30 pm and goes until everyone stops singing.
come in and check it out!
Ate lunch here Monday. Â We choose the buffet instead of the menu.
The chips and salsa (actually salsa is better here than most Mexican restaurants) are wonderful.
We both enjoyed meat ball soup very much and salad from the bar - fresh lettuce - not out of a bag.
I choose shredded chicken, rice and beans. Â Everything was very tasty, but would have preferred fajita style chicken. And I was disappointed they not have chili verde which is a favorite of mine. Â But apparently they
rotate the entree choices daily.
Hubby choose chili colorado with rice and beans and some corn on the cob. He like the chili colorado, but did not care for the corn - overcooked.
He also choose some fruit - honeydew melon and said it was good
Servers were very attentive - often refilling water glasses and bring more salsa...
Nice place to stop- where there is ample parking- for a quick reasonable priced meal....
I will try a menu item next time.
I have never had a bad time at this place- even on a slow night. You can always meet a new friend everyone is so friendly. I usually come to the bar for HH. I honestly can't stand their margaritas so I order a beer or the "BOWL". One of the BOWL drinks will have you feeling quite nice. The most I've drank in one night are two BOWLS and I had to call it quits or i may not have made it home. Lol! Mia (the waitress) is awesome she has a feisty attitude and always says something to make you laugh. make sure to tip here big. the food they serve for HH is pretty decent for free food. My favs are the nachos and the jalepeno pork. YUM! Kareoke nights are so much fun. I think it's on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. One down fall I would say is the Juke box. The music in there is so dated. but hey when you're drunk and having fun, you really don't notice.
Review Source:This is one of my favorite spots in Lancaster (which is saying a lot, trust me. ;) I used to come pretty often too when I was living in the AV; I especially made sure to come for Sunday brunch. I actually really like it and its super good priced!
They also have a pretty raging bar right next door, Friday nights here they're packed! Â They also do karaoke which is fun in big groups =]
The food here is super yummy and the portion to price is very good! The staff are ALWAYS friendly and very attentive at that. I eat salsa like crazy when I come here and not once do I ever have to ask for a refill because they're quick to refill it due to their attentiveness.
*don't let the couple bad reviews throw you off, try this place out for yourself.
Hands down, the best Mexican food in the AV! I'm not sure what the few bad reviews on here are about, but their experiences definitely don't match mine. Can't please everyone I guess.
I met some friends there last night for dinner and was immediately impressed by the service (top notch, attentive and friendly), the salsa (the best I've had in CA) and their margaritas (well made and big too). I ordered the chile verde which one of my favorite Mexican dishes. It was wonderful! Very flavorful and a generous portion, with plenty of complexity of seasonings that aren't just masked by heat. I also had the tortilla soup which came with my entree order and it was also very impressive. My girlfriend got a taco plate, and from it I could tell that the teco shells are homemade. One person in our party ordered the fajitas, which also looked very tantilizing. There were a few other menu items that also piqued my interest which I will try the next times that I come here. Next on the list that I try will be the pollo al ajo.
My favorite place for salsa and soup! The chicken tortilla soup is addicting. (hint: drop a spoonful of the salsa in the soup). The customer service beats all other restaurants. When I come back to the AV to visit, I make stop in for soup. I dont even have to order, they seat me and know exactly what to bring me every time. THAT is customer service!
Review Source:I'm not sure why?, but this place was packed on a early Saturday evening so the wife and I decided to sit in the rather dark bar area since it was pretty empty, hey but we have sports on several TV's.
I really don't understand most of these reviews nor the crowds this place get's the food at "El Toreo" across the street or several other locations is hands down better than this crap!.
Albondigas - http://www.yelp.com/biz_… Bland and lacking in flavor, meatball had zero spices along with the broth, I got one word for you guys "SEASONING"
Enchiladas ( Chicken Mole ) - http://www.yelp.com/biz_… The Mole was very bitter and the chicken was just boiled and shredded again with NO SEASONING, these were horrible!, and the beans were not completely cooked as they were still hard, Hmmm isn't the cook supposed to taste and check the food?, how can you send out hard beans?
Since the tacos here are $2+ I just opted for a burrito.......
Burrito ( Carnitas ) - http://www.yelp.com/biz_… WOW........ and that's not a good wow, I'm not sure how they take a piece of pork that is generally tender, juicy and full of flavor and turn it into something so flavorless, though the refried beans inside the burrito had some flavor, unfortunately it was not a good one!
I guess this place caters to and survives by all the older White people in the area that like bland food, they probably think this is the best Mexican food on earth because they do have a following.
The best part of this meal was I got to watch some College Football
I am not for Lancaster but I have been living here for almost 8 years. I have tried Mexican food from many places throughout California, and I have to say that Medrano's is one of best I have ever tried. The food is always good and the prices are unbeatable. I love going to Medranos for the lunch and drink specials. I like the family owned style of the restaurant. It's not over the top like some places in Los Angeles but the food is so
much better than those over priced places. I would recommend Medranos to anyone who wants good Mexican food.
The lunch gang always chooses this place when we can't make up our minds! Â So we pile in on this place at least once a month mostly because 1) it's in the center of town, 2) lunch is all-you-can-eat for about $10 and 3) it's got everything you would want in your Mexican restaurant. Â
I'm talking about great Mexican food, well, I'm a gringo so what do I know? Â I know what I like and what I like is tender and tasty pork, steak and chicken dishes. Â And lots of them. Â Just ask for some fresh tortillas and make yourself a great bunch of soft tacos or fajitas. Â I could live on the spicy jalapeno chicken dish alone.
I'm also talking about very friendly and attentive staff. Â So some of the drink-refillers or bus-boys don't speak a word of English. Â Eh, just point. Â The crew always keeps your iced tea topped off, grabs the empty plates (and we do make a LOT of them ;) before you get back from the buffet and are never too busy to answer questions or to just yak about the AV's events.
Gotta get back to work within the hour? Â No worries here. Â But you'll eat so much good food here it will soon be siesta time back at the office!
There is also a pretty big bar on the other side so you can enjoy a cold Dos Equis Amber with your chocolate-banana dessert while watching the Dodgers game. Â Another Medrano's is opening soon on the west side--hope it's just a good.
There are two types of Mexican restaurants. Type one is the type of Mexican restaurant, where your grandparents, parents and now, your generation have been visiting for years upon years because their food makes you have an orgasm every time you eat it. Type two is a Mexican restaurant that you go there solely to drink. They have tequila and cheep cerveza. The bartender is used to the local borrachos. The only thing that is even remotely edible is chips and salsa to prep your stomach for the insane binge drinking you are accustomed to doing.
Medrano's is definitely the second type. Drunken Lancaster bar whores lined the exterior of the building on a Saturday night. The cloud of cigarette smoke we walked through to get to the door was enough to choke a horse. The place was pretty packed, but I don't think it was for the food. They had a poster on the wall with an enforced dress code stating: no wife-beaters, tennis shoes, baggy pants, etc. There was no wait to be seated and as we sat down at our half-moon shaped booth, I suddenly heard "The hills are alive with the sound of music" playing on repeat in my head. The place looked like a bag of Riccola cough drops and I was on guard through the entire meal waiting for the Swiss Miss maid to pop out from around the corner and start yodeling. Awkward.
Have you ever had a plate of carnitas with rice and beans and fresh corn tortillas? Have you had carnitas so tender and juicy, it practically melts in your mouth? Has it been so flavorful that its like a little Mexican family is having a fiesta inside your mouth? Well, I have, and it was definitely NOT at Medrano's.
I ordered the Albondigas soup and the Carnitas plate. The soup was not exciting at all. Two meatballs and some veggies with not much seasoning. The plate was greasy, dry, flavorless pieces of meat that they called carnitas. It was pork and onions. Not even the onions had flavor. How does that happen? It tasted like it had been sitting and then had been reheated from a week ago's leftovers. The rice and beans were terrible also. The only thing worth while was the tortillas. They tasted homemade. Miguel had the Enchiladas Suizas with rice and beans. I was so nauseaus from my meal that I couldn't even taste Miguel's, but he said that it sucked also. I barely ate anything and practically left an entire plate of food. We paid for our meals and left.
Thanks, but no thanks. We'll stick to the Rusten House or Taco Bell.
Again, mixed feelings...
I can't believe I'm having such a hard time finding a good Mexican place in the AV!!!!!!
The good stuff: Â Â the bar was packed and looked fun (but we were there for dinner), the murals all over every surface including the ceiling were CRAAA-ZZEEE in a good way, the chips and salsa were good, and they serve Negro Modelo.
The bad stuff: Â Â the guacamole was terrible. Seriously, for five bucks (!!!) it was a tiny bowl of avocado mixed with maybe sour cream and nothing else....terrible! I can make it myself 100 times better for half the price. Â I mean really, how do you f#*# up guacamole? It's usually like pizza or sex: even when it's bad, it's still good, right? Not this stuff...it was like green grout. I dumped a bowl of salsa in it, and it was edible. The food, which took ETERNITY to come out, was really the worst I've had in a long, long time. Enchiladas that were slimy and flavorless, and the rice had peas and carrots mixed in which I think might be a traditional thing, but I still hate it.
My recommendation: go here for happy hour, to the bar... have some beers, enjoy the chips and salsa, and go somewhere else for dinner!
We were out Saturday night and decided to check this place out based on a friend's recommendation. Plus we wanted "karaoke" and this place had it going. Place is not to big and not to small. It's decent. Margaritas were average. The guacamole dip was a joke. But the chicken tacos was the bomb. Service was great and the place gives you that small town feel. We enjoyed watching folks take turns singing and had a blast. Everyone was friendly and had a good time.
Review Source:i'm from texas, and hispanic, and therefore a bit of a mexican food snob. Â luckily, california has plenty of good mexican food. Â medrano's is an example, even though it is way out here in the middle of the antelope valley.
the bar is always packed there - looks like fun. Â i mainly go for the food. Â although, i'm not opposed to a sauza hornitos margarita with a side car. Â but i digress.
the food is really good and authentic. Â i've never had anything there that i wasn't happy with.
the service is amazing!
we're on our way there now!!
With a Happy Hour that goes from 2pm to 8pm, how can you stay away? Â What are you scared to spend your lunch break and then some pounding drinks? Â Wuss! Â Luckily I don't work down the street anymore or my liver would be leading a revolt against me right about now. Â Hows this:
$2 Beer on tap & margaritas
$3 mixed drinks
For 6 hours!!
If you go on Monday, when the game comes on you can also get $2 shots and try to win prizes or free food. Can't go wrong there. Â Stretch your drinking from 2pm til the game ends. Your AA sponsor can be your designated driver. Â
Karaoke on Fri & Sat nights is always lively and packed. The usual mix of regulars, American Idol wannabes and drunkies. I prefer the latter. Always good for a laugh and sometimes you find a diamond in the rough.
The food is pretty tasty, the service is prompt and the bartenders are friendly. So you're guaranteed to have a good time as long as you're willing to let go and have some fun.
Medrano's was started by one of the guys who worked over at Nico's, and he actually did a great job in turning it into a profitable business.
The food is very good, although I did find a piece of hard plastic or china in my food last time I ate there. That can happen anywhere, though.
