Beer update: Â after chilling in the refrigerator for a couple of days I decided to pop the top and give it a shot. it was amazingly good. I like wheat beers and this is one of the great ones. It is not a pretty beer it has a cloudy appearance and almost no head. I poured it into a pilsner glass. There is not a funky aftertaste which a lot of microbrews have. I would recommend this beer to everyone (over 21 yrs old) and will probably buy a bunch of it next time I am in the area.
Review Source:"Meers" Mining Camp Restaurant is one of the true restaurant treasures we have here in this great country the United States of America! Older than Oklahoma since 1901. Meers is listed on the National Registry of HISTORIC Â places. The place is OLD indeed! Uneven floor boards is its charm & cant be changed or updated as it is a Historic Building! It is also the only restaurant in the whole United States that serves 100% fresh (never frozen) ground organic grass fed longhorn beef from their OWN herd of longhorns!
Farm to table. Â Let me say that again, locally sourced from their FARM to TABLE!
In today's world we have fast food burgers, diner burgers, gourmet burgers, craft burgers the list is endless.  But NONE of those burgers can possibly compare to the quality of the longhorn organic fresh ground  beef that is leaner and healthier for you period.  For starters BEEF comes from old dairy cows that have been fed hormones & antibiotics and we all know that the residue of these chemicals are NOT GOOD for us! And BEEF even organic beef, a 3.5 ounce serving has 20.7 grams of fat when the longhorn organic grass fed all natural beef has only 3.7!!!!!
Yes, you know exactly where the Longhorn BEEF comes from and it's 97% LEAN!!! Â No other restaurant in the whole United States can say that! And for me personally, that is what makes it The BEST!
Food network stated the same thing on their show. Bon Appetit Magazine named Meers as one of America's top restaurant and it has been consistently in the top 10 best burgers in America year after year.
Meers is located right smack in the middle of the Wichita Mountain wildlife refuge.  It's miles and miles from any city. Btw, Carly N. It's in a giant COW & BUFFALO PASTURE Girl! Lol  The reason there is no wifi and phone reception is bc there is only a dial up connection available. That's why it's CASH only! Duh! There is a cash machine but it is also on the dial up and it takes like 20 mins to get it to work.  They don't split checks bc it's CASH ONLY!!! Work that out amongst yourselves Duh!
The cowgirls that work here will be more than happy to make change for all y'all!
These ladies work very hard out here in the country and with only a population of 380 year round they appreciate your tips and kindness as its their only seasonal income and cowgirls like bling too! Be kind to your servers or they might stomp a mud-hole in your arse and walk it dry with those boots! Lol  With no phone reception and wifi y'all are screwed! Lol (wink)
So, if y'all want a craft burger/fancy pants burger like with pretzel buns, foie gras, fried shallot, and cranberry fennel aioli please stay in the city with your high heels, high standards & high flutin tootin attitudes these cowgirls & cowboys don't know nutin bout that "foodie" crap. Â I been a gourmet chef for 25 years and I never once heard anyone jump up in the mornin and say "omg I have to have that burger with the foie gras" lol
But, if you want fantastic American grub, a real American cowboy & Indian "experience" in the only restaurant in the whole USA that serves farm to table kick ass burgers & beer, especially local made MUSTANG beer that is made from Oklahoma grain! WOO HOP HOO! Â (drink a 6 pack of those and ya might wake up naked next to the creek in a fire ant bed wit temporary memory loss lol) Anyhoo, ya'll dust off yer cowboy boots, throw on yer oldest pair of Levi's & ride on over! As long as ya got the grace of God in yer heart, cash in yer pocket and no cow crap on yer boots yer mighty welcome at this fine historic establishment!
I was just there for the weekend and had a few Meers burgers when this military guy from Ft. Sill was talking to the cashier about how great the burgers are and that the original Meers burger is not even on the menu! The really good one is the "seismic" burger but dressed with just lettuce tomato pickle onion not all the other stuff. Just a regular topped "seismic" is called a "prospector" It's a full one pound when the regular Meers burger is 1/2 pound. Â So depending on how hungry you are. Â The giant buns are made especially for them and they are delish!
The "frickles"(bread & butter fried pickles) are amazballs! The chicken fried steak, amazballs! And if you drive all the way here you better NOT leave this place without trying the COBBLER!!!! It's triple threat Amazballs! They make their own homemade ice cream that is a rich & creamy "experience" from the heavens!!!
Also, The blues festival is going on in medicine park Labor Day weekend & the flute festival is the last weekend in September. Â Put THIS on your bucket list!! See you there!
I had been meaning to check this place out for a while, I had been to the Wichita Mountain area before but had never gone inside to eat there, it is on the corner of the end of the road leading out of the wildlife refuge in the area, when you walk in you are greeted by this long stair ramp like thing that leads to the top of the restaurant, there was a line to my surprise so we had to wait for our seat, and a huge thing to remember about this place it is CASH ONLY
So... me and my friend get to the of the place and were told to go to another room, we walked into the other room and we had assumed we were in the dinning room as we saw there was dinning chairs, much to our surprise we were NOT in the dining room yet, we were in a holding room waiting on a a table to open up! It wasn't too much longer though they called our names for our table
The place is what I would define as rustic... gives you that old miner kinda feeling to it, old signs everywhere, wooden floors, chairs, tables, etc, a head of a longhorn cow is in 1 room
I was told there was a buffalo burger offered at this establishment but to much surprise I did not see it on the menu! What was another thing I did know about however was a 16 oz burger that is uniquely cut into 4 sections, I did order a burger however I did not order the mammoth size that this place has become known for
When you order you also order sides individually so you there are no "combo" meals so to speak, I ordered a side of cheese potatoe wedges, I also ordered a coke which comes in a Mason jar! Something much appreciated since it was a hot day!
The condiments and "napkins" were a interesting offering... they were in a metal wire cage like contraption that served well for holding things in place, the "napkins" were actually paper towers stuck on a wood pool for you to roll off for however much you needed. One thing that was awkward was the placement of our table, it was on a uneven side of the wood floor where it started to slope, so my chair felt like it was going to fall at some points, but I kept my balance
Now the most important part of my review... food quality.... to be honest... the food quality was ok, was nothing super special to be honest, and that was kind of a disappointment given this places reputation, I was expecting this place to be a awesome/fresh tasting burger and dont get me wrong it was not bad, but it didnt blow me out of the water. The potatoe wedges with cheese fries were okay as well... but again didnt blow me away
As a previous poster mentioned... this is a once in a lifetime experience... you go there cause it looks fun from the outside and is unique looking... but would you go back for the food quality? That is up to the person I suppose, but I most likely will not
