I feel like one's standards have to be adjusted a little at the shore. Everything is a little more laid back, the service isn't really on point, and you're not getting fancy cuisine. Still, if there was another breakfast spot this close, I would go there instead. It's not that Meg's is bad; it's simply ok and nothing more.
There's obviously a wait on summer weekends but I feel that could be alleviated if they had small tables they could either use as is or push together for large parties. The fare is pretty standard- omelettes, pancakes, salads, sandwiches, although I had a really good banana Nutella French toast special once.
But it's the sum of little things that give the overall experience a negative tone. I am the most sympathetic towards working women (girl power!), and small business owners, but when your kid is screaming it kind of ruins my meal. There's generally a lot of screaming kids here but I guess that can't be avoided in a family shore town. Almost every time I've come they've missed a little something on an order, and sometimes it takes a few tries to get it right. I know its a busy place but little things make a huge difference. I plan on returning and hope to upgrade my review if things improve.
I'm a local (Toms River) and love to support our local businesses. I've eaten breakfast here and it's been really good. Not amazing, as other reviewers have said, but good. The staff seemed pleasant, but not overly friendly, and the waitress did get an order confused but it wasn't a big deal. There were 8 of us who were waiting to be seated together, and the wait was rather long because they put one couple (yes, 2 people) at their largest table to sit and eat. Thought that was odd, but otherwise worth the wait. I will go back again.
