I feel like one's standards have to be adjusted a little at the shore. Everything is a little more laid back, the service isn't really on point, and you're not getting fancy cuisine. Still, if there was another breakfast spot this close, I would go there instead. It's not that Meg's is bad; it's simply ok and nothing more.
There's obviously a wait on summer weekends but I feel that could be alleviated if they had small tables they could either use as is or push together for large parties. The fare is pretty standard- omelettes, pancakes, salads, sandwiches, although I had a really good banana Nutella French toast special once.
But it's the sum of little things that give the overall experience a negative tone. I am the most sympathetic towards working women (girl power!), and small business owners, but when your kid is screaming it kind of ruins my meal. There's generally a lot of screaming kids here but I guess that can't be avoided in a family shore town. Almost every time I've come they've missed a little something on an order, and sometimes it takes a few tries to get it right. I know its a busy place but little things make a huge difference. I plan on returning and hope to upgrade my review if things improve.
I'm a local (Toms River) and love to support our local businesses. I've eaten breakfast here and it's been really good. Not amazing, as other reviewers have said, but good. The staff seemed pleasant, but not overly friendly, and the waitress did get an order confused but it wasn't a big deal. There were 8 of us who were waiting to be seated together, and the wait was rather long because they put one couple (yes, 2 people) at their largest table to sit and eat. Thought that was odd, but otherwise worth the wait. I will go back again.
Review Source:I am a property owner in Lavallette for over 20 years. Â My family and friends go to Meg's quite often because we like to support the local businesses and the food is good. The service is at Meg's is very good also. My biggest complaint with Meg's is the owner -- meg. Â We had lunch there on Sunday. Meg was there and was rude. Â She did not greet one customer that walked into the place nor did she say thank you when someone left. Â What is her problem?
Review Source:Ate breakfast there w family. Â Ok food, nothing special. Â Was looking forward to good homefries. Â They were bagged coated potatoes deep fried. Â Ok, but not what i was hoping for. Â Must have been 80 degrees inside. Â I asked if the AC was broken, but it wasnt. Â Shirt soaked like i finished exercising. Â Service not so friendly, no thank you come again. Â Skinny young gal was waitress and acted like she hated her job... Â Wont be coming back.
Review Source:I loved it here. The food was fresh and delicious. Â The staff was friendly, the dining area was inviting and clean. Â The broccoli and cheese omelete was delcious as was my husband's greek omelette. Â I even bought a t-shirt from Meg's and it's so comfy and soft! Â We will be back, probably every morning of our stay!
Review Source:Been going to Meg's for years. Â It is hands-down the best breakfast spot on the island. Â Not that they need the press - good luck getting a table on the weekends in the summer -- but I felt like giving props to a favorite spot. Â I have had way more breakfasts at Meg's than lunches, but they have a nice lunch menu also. Meg's is just a laid-back, good quality, small-town place.
