Sushi was decent. Â We went as a group so the wait was very long, but the atmosphere was enjoyable. Â The aesthetics were weird since it was a dance floor that they happen to set up as a dining room. Â Not a bad experience but not earth shattering either. Â There is much better food elsewhere on Westcott.
Review Source:Metro missed on all cylinders. From the very beginning. Food was mediocre at best. Received some of the smallest chicken wings I have ever seen. No Draft beer. Service was horrible and annoying. Management was benign and short and somehow they don't have hot sauce even though I ordered buffalo wings. And to top it off the place was empty. Would avoid at all costs.
Review Source:(Review is for half-priced sushi nights)
To call this place a regular sushi restaurant would be misleading. Â It's more like a mediocre American twist on sushi, shoehorned into a lounge/bar space.
On the upside, there's no shortage of experimentation seen in the rolls here. Â One roll even uses beef tenderloin as the main ingredient (try finding that elsewhere). Â
The problem with their sushi comes down to the basics. Â The variety of rice used is correct but undercooked. Â There's not enough rice vinegar and sugar added to the sushi rice to make the rice stick properly. Â Moreover, the ingredients used present a challenge to keeping the whole roll together in one piece (and it doesn't help that the rolls are sliced too thin). Â Additionally, don't expect the raw fish to be sushi-grade.
Another problem is the prices. Â At $6-10 for nigiri and $7-16 for specialty rolls, Metro Lounge has priced themselves right up there with San Francisco and Los Angeles-area sushi joints (areas that are well known for their top-quality sushi). Â Unfortunately, with high prices come high expectations, which are definitely not met. Â Frankly, at these prices, I would expect to see a Japanese sushi master with at least 10-years of apprenticeship training behind the sushi bar.
However, there is a silver lining in all of this. Â The sushi isn't terrible and you can definitely satisfy your sushi cravings if you come here for half-price sushi nights on Mondays and Tuesdays. Â Although you're required to make a drink purchase to get the half-priced sushi, the pricing comes right in line with quality expectations on these special evenings.
And if you're looking for a strong drink to wash down your sushi, their potent martinis cannot be missed either.
Overall, three stars. Â It's top-quality sushi for Syracuse (with extra points for creative experimentation with the specialty rolls). Â But you can bet that sushi like this wouldn't past muster in a large cosmopolitan city. Â I'll definitely be back, but with my expectations in check.
Had dinner last night before the hold steady show. Â Bartender was cranky because they were understaffed, but eventually warmed up. Â Started with the chicken dumplings and they were very good. Â Â My wife had the buffalo chicken wrap, way over spicy plus it was more of a chili powder than a wings sauce. Â I had the red chicken curry, sauce was a little too heavy and there was way too much rice. Â Sauce did have a good spice to it but not overdone. Â Could have used more veggie, it only had chicken tomatoes and potatoes in it, over not bad.
Review Source:Metro was our neighborhood bar for my grad class and I have a lot of fond memories of that place. Â Loved that it was 50 feet from my apartment, and loved it when it wasn't crowded. Our group would take over the pool room and would hang out all night. Good times.
Lots of locals. And no SU undergrads. Sweet.
Their sushi isn't anything to write home about. However, super strong drinks for reasonable prices - $6 for a long island - made this place a gem. Perhaps a little pricey for Syracuse for beer, but the mixed drinks...woot. Those got some of my class in trouble. The bartenders were extremely nice and took care of us regulars (in terms of drinks, and cutting us off/switching to water), despite our rowdiness. Â
Decor: I don't know what it is about their theme, but the nautical bar is super fun to sit at and great for ppl watching. And they have a really cool bathroom sink (I know I'm a dork).
Also, Metro has live music (reggae and salsa mostly) on specific nights. Those days get super crowded, but it's nice to mix it up once in a while.
Ah Metro how I miss you. I'll definitely visit next time I'm in town.
Slow service: it took over 30 minutes to get a beer, they weren't busy.
meh sushi: poorly constructed, presentation was weak. Â At least the wasabi was hot. Â Several peoples order came on the same plate- this wasn't what they intended as was shown by their rough handling of the sushi onto a new plate.
The rest of the place was alright- kind of classy. Â It was clean....
metro used to be club 505, and for that it automatically gets three stars just for replacing that place. Â
it gets its fourth star because the place is really great. Â it just opened a few months ago, but give it some time...metro will be a great place to have drinks and hang out. Â
the sushi is OK, the prices are great and the food is fine. Â definitely better than going downtown (where there's never parking and the sushi is overpriced), and better than going to wegmans and getting prepackaged sushi, obviously. Â so yea, im glad metro opened on westcott. Â it's a place to have good food, and there's a large bar and pool table in the back...it's a nice option to have a drink if you dont feel like going to marshall street or downtown
