I have been to Mexican Village several times and it was an ok place. It's a typical chain style Americanized Mexican restaurant. One thing that turned me off was I had friends that were servers here and the management would call them in to work before dinner rush and if there weren't enough customers they had to sit there but not clocked in, which I'm pretty sure is a violation of labor laws. Food is ok but nothing special same with the drinks.
Review Source:Based on a number of the negative reviews, I was hesitate to try Mexican Village even with the recommendation of a great friend.
I am so glad  that we did.  The decor is cheesy and enjoyable, our server was very attentive, and the food was tasty.  We were there for lunch and ordered off the lunch menu and the regular menu.  The enchiladas were great, the fajitas were well liked; however we missed them being served on the sizzling platter, and the carnitas received a thumbs up.  The only disappointment was the tacos that my daughter ordered.  She is a plain jane and ordered them with meat, cheese, and sour cream only.  The meat had some chunks of onion that she picked out before eating.
Overall, a nice experience and one that I would be happy to repeat.
I love the decor of Mexican Village, it is cheesy and really fun. Â The food, though, not so much. Â Honestly, if I bought that salsa at WalMart to eat at home, I would take one bite and throw the whole jar away. Â It tastes really gross. Â About the only things I can get down there are the fried ice cream and the alcoholic beverages. Â So I might go there for a drink or dessert, but I would never go there to eat ever again. Â Save yourself and head somewhere more authentic, there are plenty of great Mexican places in the area.
Review Source:Used to eat here quite a bit in college. I thought the food was fairly decent, not the best I've ever had,but certainly not the worst.
Yep, I even celebrated a birthday here with the old college roommates with the cheesy sombrero photo.
The interior is quaint. Â
Food is pretty good. I usually  order the steak fajita taco salad. Pretty satisfying. The shell was crisp and flaky, not soggy. J was pretty satisfied with his tacos on our last visit.
Surprised that this place doesn't have better reviews.
There are really very few places that I will never go back to again...but Mexican Village is on that list...
We went for the 1st time for dinner on a Friday night. It came highly recommended by many friends and family. The parking lot was full, but we were immediately seated.
The decor was very colorful and festive. My husband did comment that the photography on the menus was horrible.
Our server was in training but had a veteran server as her coach. We ordered the fajitas for 2 & water w/ lemon.
The chips and salsa & water came shortly after we ordered. It was at this point that I should have just got up and walked out. The lemon looked like it was a dried lemon slice that needed to be re-hydrated in the water. The chips were stale and tasted like they came from a bag of restaurant style tortilla chips that were purchased at Sam's club, opened and then forgotten about until we ordered. The salsa, well, I am not even sure that we were served salsa...maybe tomato puree with a couple of onions thrown in the mix? Our water was empty, our servers were no where to be found.
We were starting to question if our food would arrive at all when our servers stopped by (forgetting to refill our water glasses) to tell us our food would be out shortly...and about 10 minutes later, it was.
I have never ever ordered fajitas that didn't come to the table on a hot sizzling plate, until I ate here.
The tortilla shells were cold, thick and fell apart when I tried to fold them. The steak looked a little bit like beef jerky. The raw red onion and green pepper that was thrown on the top of the pile only made me wish I would have walked out after we got the chips and "salsa".
The Village is great place for birthdays. Â Kind of a tradition in Kato. Â Get your photo taken with a sombraro on with your friends. Â The food is typical mexican food. Â Chips and salsa at the beginning, and I've seen many a people order a side of ranch. Â I prefer the hot salsa. Â The portions are huge, so be prepared for leftovers or split an entree with someone. Â Their Cancun (seafood enchiladas) are really good. Â The fried ice cream is the best I've had...Amazing. Â The decor is really bright with lots of plants and a fountain. Â Servers are always friendly and I like sitting at their little bar.
