Nice Place, rather far off the interstate, and tucked away in a strip mall.  Food was good, I have had better sauces.  First place like this I have been that served cabbage as part of the vegetables.
No choice of salad dressings offered, serving sizes were adequate, vs some places I have been that are enormous.   The Orange sherbet was good.

This review is long, but stick with me, for your own benefit.

I stopped in here a few months ago and had one of the worst meals I've had in Macon...which is really quite an accomplishment, given how bad most of the food is down here.

The restaurant wasn't very busy. There was one couple sitting at the sushi bar, one 4-top and one 2-top sitting at the tables, and a small amount of people sitting at one of the hibachi grills. It took about 10 minutes for us just to get some menus, at which time we placed an order for some edamame (because our two year old loves the stuff and it helps keep him pacified/occupied when we go out to eat at japanese restaurants). We then waited for another 15 minutes before someone came over to take the rest of our order, which consisted of some chicken yakitori as an appetizer, 4 sushi rolls, and a handful of nigiri.

We then proceeded to wait. And wait. And wait. And wait some more.

I tried to flag down the waitress multiple times to find out what was taking so long, and was repeatedly ignored. Finally, after we had been there for an hour, I asked her why we hadn't even received our edamame yet. She told me that "the kitchen was very busy" before briskly walking away. 5 minutes later, we FINALLY had our edamame, which had barely been seasoned. So to recap...we were in a non-busy restaurant and it took us a solid HOUR to get something that takes all of 3 minutes in a steamer to prepare.

Then our first round of sushi came out. (Mind you, I still hadn't received my appetizer order of chicken yakitori yet). The sushi looked about as unappetizing as it could. Hastily thrown together without the least bit of care for presentation or detail. Uneven slices of fish. Rice falling off the nigiri. The tako/octopus had obviously been frozen and run under warm water to defrost it, as the outer edges were room-temperature bordering on luke-warm, while the middle was freezing cold, soggy, mushy & waterlogged. The masago & tobiko were both really fishy and mushy...they lacked that 'pop' that they're supposed to make in your mouth. They were mushy & mealy and tasted like the owners probably picked it up in the bait section of the Bass Pro Shop down the road. And I'm not even joking or making light of the situation, as that is my honest conclusion as to the quality of the fish eggs.

Then my chicken yakitori showed up (more than an hour after I ordered it). The chicken was still raw in places, it was smothered in some form of sickly-sweet barbecue sauce that was unlike any kind of yakitori seasoning or marinade that I had ever experienced before, and the vegetables were soggy. I think they microwaved the entire thing rather than cooking it over a charcoal or gas grill. Inedible.

Then the second half of our sushi order came out. Everything was absolutely smothered in a pink-colored sauce. Drowned in it. There was a puddle of pink sauce on the bottom of the plate. Once again, the sushi was thrown together without a care in the world. Lazy beyond belief. But the real kicker was when I noticed that some of the tuna & salmon in the rolls was grey and had a really strong fishy odor and taste. They served us ROTTEN FISH, and smothered it in sauce in the hopes that we wouldn't notice.

At that point we got up to leave. We spoke with the owner on the way out and explained how disappointed we were by the meal, between the wait times, the bad quality, the rotten fish, etc. Our food was still sitting there, mostly-uneaten, and yet he refused to go over and look at it. He implied that we were lying, and basically threw us out of his restaurant, telling us we weren't welcome back there.

So there you have it. If you want some of the slowest service in Macon (which is saying something) combined with some of the worst food in Macon (which is saying something) combined with some of the worst customer service in Macon (which is saying something), then by all means go to Mikata. It'll be a meal you'll never forget. As for me, three strikes (in one meal) and you're out.

I really hope this place goes out of business before someone winds up in the hospital as a result of having eaten here.

As for the reviewers who give this place anything more than 2 stars, I'm willing to bet most of them have never even tried real sushi. You'd have to be insane, or from middle Georgia, to think that this is what sushi is supposed to be like.
