Milan Grill

Took my grandson there for lunch.  It was Friday at 2pm.  He ordered a cheeseburger and fries. It was huge and he loved it. The wait staff was attentive. The food was great and we opted to sit outside on sidewalk. I took a chance and added the Milan fries to my sandwich (BLT) and was delightfully surprised.  It was my first visit to this restaurant.  I liked it enough to return with my wife and brother on Saturday. She had the chicken Marsala which she enjoyed and my brother had the prime rib. The service was again very accommodating and immediate.  The atmosphere was subdued and this made for quiet and easy conversation. There was no noisy clatter, chatter or obnoxious music for which I was thankful. The table was set with linen and not paper and the flatware had heft and good balance (as opposed to the more typical stamped 16 gage stainless steel).  I cannot comment on the adult beverage offerings as my wife and I have given up that delightful side of life for the sake of Someone whom we both love.  And so our total bill for the three dinners came to 52 dollars with ice tea.  Oh, and speaking of ice tea theirs was excellent.  You should also know that I am 64years old.

The Milan Grill used to deserve the 3.5 star rating, but this is no longer true.  (Notice the dates of the more positive reviews.)  Since reopening several years ago, the Milan Grill has lost its initial momentum and dedication to good food preparation and service.  A recent change of ownership has resulted in an even steeper decline and I fear that the restaurant will close for good before the end of the year.  

Although we used to frequent the restaurant, dining there at least once a week, I believe tonight's visit will be our last as there have been problems in every element of restaurant operation for our last three visits.  Food preparation was poor, despite the fact that we ordered tonight's specials hoping to make it easy on the cooks.  The onion rings were dripping of oil (surely indicative of the oil temperature being too low) and the deep fried fish tasted unsafe to eat. The service was abysmal.  Although there were only a few tables occupied (another bad sign), the three servers were much more interested in congregating around their cell phones trying to figure out how to use a new app than providing service such as drink refills to their customers.  The restroom smelled bad, the stall door was in disrepair, and there was a large hole in the restroom wall that had clearly been there awhile.  To top it all off, for our third visit in a row, there was no manager or owner to be seen or to whom to express concerns.

If you're looking for a meal in Milan, I'm afraid I'd list the Milan Grill as the last resort option and even advise one of the local fast food joints instead.  So sad!  Milan has really needed a restaurant and it's a heart breaker to see this one go down the drain.

I'd like to give 3.5 stars, but there it is, just 3.

It's a very nice looking place, cozy, clean and all.  Was not very crowded and we were seated soon and served not too long after that.  I didn't have anything to eat, but a friend who had their Southwestern salad enjoyed it.  It was also quite large as were all the other dishes I saw being delivered.  The size reflected to price, which was reasonable.

A downside was their beer selection.  Two for the six taps were out and of the remaining four, only two were craft-type beer.  Not very good ones at that.  Another negative was trying to get out of there.  Eight tables left at about the same time and the poor lone waitress was trying to keep up.  When she brought the bills for our table, she didn't have ours.  We waited too long for that to come, mainly because our friends were undercharged and getting it corrected presented a challenge for two of the staff.  That's too bad because were got pretty good service prior.

Not sure if we'll be back.
