Took my grandson there for lunch. Â It was Friday at 2pm. Â He ordered a cheeseburger and fries. It was huge and he loved it. The wait staff was attentive. The food was great and we opted to sit outside on sidewalk. I took a chance and added the Milan fries to my sandwich (BLT) and was delightfully surprised. Â It was my first visit to this restaurant. Â I liked it enough to return with my wife and brother on Saturday. She had the chicken Marsala which she enjoyed and my brother had the prime rib. The service was again very accommodating and immediate. Â The atmosphere was subdued and this made for quiet and easy conversation. There was no noisy clatter, chatter or obnoxious music for which I was thankful. The table was set with linen and not paper and the flatware had heft and good balance (as opposed to the more typical stamped 16 gage stainless steel). Â I cannot comment on the adult beverage offerings as my wife and I have given up that delightful side of life for the sake of Someone whom we both love. Â And so our total bill for the three dinners came to 52 dollars with ice tea. Â Oh, and speaking of ice tea theirs was excellent. Â You should also know that I am 64years old.
I look forward to trying many more items on the menu in the future.
The Milan Grill used to deserve the 3.5 star rating, but this is no longer true. Â (Notice the dates of the more positive reviews.) Â Since reopening several years ago, the Milan Grill has lost its initial momentum and dedication to good food preparation and service. Â A recent change of ownership has resulted in an even steeper decline and I fear that the restaurant will close for good before the end of the year. Â
Although we used to frequent the restaurant, dining there at least once a week, I believe tonight's visit will be our last as there have been problems in every element of restaurant operation for our last three visits. Â Food preparation was poor, despite the fact that we ordered tonight's specials hoping to make it easy on the cooks. Â The onion rings were dripping of oil (surely indicative of the oil temperature being too low) and the deep fried fish tasted unsafe to eat. The service was abysmal. Â Although there were only a few tables occupied (another bad sign), the three servers were much more interested in congregating around their cell phones trying to figure out how to use a new app than providing service such as drink refills to their customers. Â The restroom smelled bad, the stall door was in disrepair, and there was a large hole in the restroom wall that had clearly been there awhile. Â To top it all off, for our third visit in a row, there was no manager or owner to be seen or to whom to express concerns.
If you're looking for a meal in Milan, I'm afraid I'd list the Milan Grill as the last resort option and even advise one of the local fast food joints instead. Â So sad! Â Milan has really needed a restaurant and it's a heart breaker to see this one go down the drain.
I'd like to give 3.5 stars, but there it is, just 3.
It's a very nice looking place, cozy, clean and all. Â Was not very crowded and we were seated soon and served not too long after that. Â I didn't have anything to eat, but a friend who had their Southwestern salad enjoyed it. Â It was also quite large as were all the other dishes I saw being delivered. Â The size reflected to price, which was reasonable.
A downside was their beer selection. Â Two for the six taps were out and of the remaining four, only two were craft-type beer. Â Not very good ones at that. Â Another negative was trying to get out of there. Â Eight tables left at about the same time and the poor lone waitress was trying to keep up. Â When she brought the bills for our table, she didn't have ours. Â We waited too long for that to come, mainly because our friends were undercharged and getting it corrected presented a challenge for two of the staff. Â That's too bad because were got pretty good service prior.
Not sure if we'll be back.
I wasn't sure about this spot after reading the other so-so reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised. Â The restaurant is a quiet spot and the service was excellent. Â I ordered the Monterrey Chicken, which was on special. Â My friend ordered the Turkey Reuben and we were both extremely happy with our decisions. Â The dinner also began with 2 homemade garlic butter rolls, which were served warm. Â They were delicious. Â The meals were an average of $10 per plate, which for dinner, you can't really complain about. Â BTW, they are open until 11:00 p.m. every night but Monday (and maybe Sunday?).
Review Source:I've had both good and bad experiences here, leaning far more towards the good. As someone who works evenings, I was upset with the changed hours when it would close at 9:00 on most nights. This is because I never have a guarantee of getting out of work on schedule, and if I'm feeling lazy I want an option other than pizza.
The menu changes at certain times of day and that can be confusing. Staff is pleasant and get to know repeat customers by appearance if not name. Food is good and more variety than other nearby restaurants. Unfortunately, sometimes it's obvious they're operating with a skeleton crew.
I have lived in Milan for 4 years and finally tried this place and it was a disappointment. Â It was a sunday and very few customers in the restaurant so I expected fast service. Â There were only ten customers or so and I see why. Â First, it took 10 minutes to get spoken to and there were no kids menus. Â Second, it took an hour for 2 sandwiches with cold fries, an overdone kids burger and kids spaghetti with no sauce. Â Finally, after horrible service and below average food we were offered a whopping 10% off. Â
In my opinion it was a complete waste of my time and money. Â I shouldn't have to worry about it much longer because being that slow on a weekend they should be gone in no time.
I have officially GIVEN UP on this place.
I have been here honestly probably 20 times. 1/3 of my visits have been OKAY.
Let's start with the wait staff. Ha, joke. It's has the  most sluggish, deer in headlights servers I have ever seen. Every time I have ever dined there, its never been busy. But somehow, I wait for a bar drink for an average of 10 minutes, even if I'm sitting at the bar. My food usually comes out fast, but that's nothing to get excited about. It's poorly slapped together, seasoned horribly, and the quality sucks undeniabley. I don't know if I get the old crap every time I go in, or what.
Its like a rollercoaster in there. Sometimes the foods good (still with crappy waitstaff) and other times it sucks (STILL with crappy waitstaff)
I used to order the Greek salad with salmon. That was the only really good thing so I stuck with it. HA low and behold, the last time I ordered it, the salmon was not seasoned and the lettuce was wilted. JOKE. Who doesn't season salmon?!?!
I also love calamari. Ordered it once. SICK. I felt like I was eating a tire. BUT I heard afterwards, it was delicious. I figured hell...give it another shot. It was GREAT!!! Went in again, stuck w the calamari....FRICKEN HORRIBLE!!!!!
I will never go back. That place is a joke, and I really am shocked anyone likes that place
Tried this place out for the first time tonight and we were quite underwhelmed. We were hoping for a much better experience given the reviews, but were sorely disappointed. My husband ordered the black and bleu pasta--way too much cream sauce and the pasta was overdone. I ordered the marinated steak with a baked potato. The potato probably needed about 3 more minutes in the oven and the steak was rare as opposed to medium. The marinade was okay enough. My daughter had the spaghetti with marinara and she said, "I prefer store bought sauce" after taking a few bites. So sad. My son's chicken tenders and fries were probably the best part of the meal, but he did not get his meal until about 20 minutes after we received ours because the kitchen mistakenly cooked chicken wings instead of tenders during the first go around. The waitress was very nice, but was not very knowledgeable about the menu. The kitchen was dealing with 2 parties of about 20 kids and therefore took forever to actually get our meals. And, some guy, I'm assuming the manager, seemed to chat it up with a couple of other tables quite a bit, encouraging them to check in on 4square so he could give them a free dessert, but never acknowledged us even though we had checked in. But, we realized we needed to have 3 friends check in at the same time with us--so alas, no free dessert for us. So, given the fully disappointing experience, 1st and last time at Milan Grill. Oh well.
Review Source:My husband and I were visiting relatives from OOT and they took us to Milan Grill for dinner. I was pleasantly surprised by the diverse menu, including good vegetarian options, and even more so by the food. Their wine list and beer diversity are a little puny, but tolerable.
My vegetarian gyro was the BEST i have ever had-- seriously, I have been craving it all the way back in Virginia. ;) Plus their sweet potato fries were killer. Yum yum!
Next time we are in Michigan visiting relatives, I will request Milan Grill for sure.
OK, I gave it 5 stars because it's in my hometown, but if you know Milan you know it has NO RIGHT hosting such deliciousness. Billy and Miss Joyce (goodbye!) are some of the friendliest folks around, and the food is a wonderfully surprising mix of seafood, pasta, etc.
Prices are great, the atmosphere is urbane but not at all pretentious, and the Crab Balls are the best I've had outside of New Orleans. Actually, they're the best I've had even counting Nawlins. Crispy, spicy, bursting with crabmeat and very little breading. Pop one in your mouth and just try to keep your eyes from bugging out.
Like I said, Milan has no right to such deliciousness. I hope they appreciate what they've got and Milan Grill stays around forever, because I know where I'm eating when I come home to visit Mom.
I went to this place for the first time a few days ago and I've decided that I'm for sure going to go back and I've already tried recommending people to try it. Â The server was so nice and so was everybody we encountered. Â The food was different - yet different in a good way. Â The food is home made so some of the classics are changed up a bit but I couldn't complain. Â A nice little place and I loved the decor.
Quality of food / taste - 5/5
Staff friendliness / knowledge of menu - 4.5/5
Price / "Bang for buck" - 4/5
Menu selection - 5/5
Atmosphere - 5/5
We were on our way home from spring break and were quite tired of eating out. Â We came in with low expectations but ended up really enjoying the meal....our 13 yo had fish fillets with mashed potatoes which were quite good. Â My husband had eggplant Parmesan and I had a "Michigan salad" which had chicken breast pieces, mandarin oranges, and cranberries. Â Everything was great and was the next best thing to a home cooked meal!
Review Source:Amazing food? Yes. Great prices? Yup. Wonderful, friendly staff and cozy atmosphere? Check and check.
I went a few months ago with my girlfriends and loved it. Last night, on a whim, I made my husband go with me. We both had prime rib and not a sound was heard but nom-nom-nomming. My husband *never* gets excited about food and he kept exclaiming about how good everything was. The ranch dressing was homemade, veggies were perfect, and how about the Creme Brulee? Our waitress was fabulous and I recognized our waiter from the other visit, who came over to chat.
You could go to some chain restaurant, wait in line for 30 minutes, and eat bizarre reconstituted food...or you could go on over to the Milan Grill, snuggle into a booth with special folks, and *really* enjoy yourself.
Sunday fried chicken plate special. Sooo yummy I'm hungry thinking about it right now. Ms. Julia cooks a mean plate of crispy not greasy fried chicken with collard greens and mac-n-cheese. It is big enough for two and my husband and I polished it all off in one sitting. I also had some of the excellent sweet potato fries on the side. My friends had a wrap and some soup that they also thought was excellent. Big thumbs up for this restaurant getting it right.
The staff was very friendly and the interior of the restaurant is nicely decorated. What a surprising find in tiny Milan! We hope to go again soon.
Yay for Milan, MI joining the 21st century! Â My sister has lived in Milan for 15 years so I'm there all the time. Â One thing I can say about it is, every time I set foot inside the town limits, I feel as if time has stopped...in 1978. Â Don't get me wrong, it's fine, but Milan definitely does not have the draw and charm of some of the other nearby small towns (i.e. Saline, Tecumseh, or Dundee).
Enter The Milan Grill. Â Somebody with a few bucks in their pocket or really good credit decided to take 3 empty business spaces, tear down the walls between them, and turn it into a bigger bar and grill. Â Â
That same person either designed or hired a designer to revamp the place with such a cool, modern look that it stands out from the surrounding businesses. Â I was also very impressed by the layout and colors they chose. Â Warm colored walls with dim lighting instantly make me hungry, and I felt my stomach growl at around the 3rd step inside.
The place was packed, but we were seated within 5 minutes. Â They have quite an extensive menu, ranging from higher end salads to unique sandwiches and classic entrees.
We started out with the pulled pork nachos. Â Â What a fabulous idea! Â Pulled BBQ pork over nacho chips, and topped with melted cheese, tomatoes, and lettuce. Â Between the 6 of us, that dish lasted about a minute and half. Â
I ordered the baked mac & cheese. Â I see this item in more restaurants and I couldn't be happier. Â It's one of my favorite meals of all time and if I see it on a menu, it's only a matter of time before there's a bowl sitting in front of me waiting to be devoured.
This dish was a little different because it had bacon in it. Â It was pretty good, but was so overly thick and creamy, and had such a unique taste, I could only finish half before I was done. Â I thought it was quite good, but sad to say I've had better. Â Since the remaining portion is sitting in a styrofoam box in my fridge as we speak, I'm willing to give it another shot.
The other entrees around the table included: herb garlic chicken, chicken fingers sandwich, fish and chips, pepperoni pizza, and prime rib. Â Everyone seemed very happy with their meals and everything looked and smelled delicious.
The hubs and I shared a peanut butter pie sundae for dessert. Â Â This was a slice of peanut butter pie, cut up into chunks, and mixed in with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream. Â Â Again, simple food, but put them all together and they make a happier family than the Brady Bunch. Â Â
Hubs and I became like movable mannequins where nobody said a word, we both stared into the distance, and the only movements were arms bending as spoons went from sundae to mouths. Â
Our server was incredibly friendly and personable and she did a great job. Â Keeping the 6 of us hydrated at all times, and making sure the bread refills did not stop until our dinner came was a high priority on her list, and we all made comments on how much we liked her. Â
All in all, a great experience with great food. Â I didn't order any cocktails but saw some pretty cool martini's floating around, and they looked like they had a full bar with top shelf liquor. Â
The Milan Grill is exactly what this town needs since I keep seeing new housing developments popping up in the area.  It's obvious  more people are moving there.  It's a nice, safe community that's close to Ann Arbor.  I hope this restaurant is just the start of a town-wide facelift and I applaud the owners for taking the chance and seeing the potential.
