Wow.  I can't really rate this place for food because we walked in to an empty restaurant, hung out, finally somebody wandered in and sat us, and they did bring us drinks.. but we were really hungry from a day of going to the tulip festival and stuff, and they never came back to our table!  We specifically chose the place for their vegan options, although looking at the filthy  (and misspelled) menu and the employee's children running all around the place, I was actually kind of happy we had to leave without eating.  I really wanted to like this place, but I would absolutely never go back.  We ended up at McMenamins in Oregon City, hardly the place I wanted to eat my Birthday dinner but better than Mill Town Pub.

Great food, good service and great prices was my initial impression.  However, on subsequent visits the food became worse.  On our last visit, the frozen French fries were not fully cooked and grossed me out.  I may give them another try, but won't be expecting much.

We were so excited to find a place that served vegan food that was more than just a standard stir fry - the menu seemed extensive - not necessarily super healthy, but fun pub-type food for vegans and vegetarians (chicken-fried tempeh w/ gravy!) -

We got there at around 1pm on a Sunday - it wasn't packed, a total of seven other diners, we made nine. The waitress was very nice and got our order promptly, brought our drinks . . . and that was the last time we saw her. 30 minutes go by and we haven't been served anything. 35 minutes go by and another woman comes out and lets us know that they don't have any mashed potatoes or gravy - which was the side dish that went with the chicken-friend tempeh and pretty much blew the fun of that dish.

That was a drag, but what was worse about it was that it turns out that our original waitress turned out to also be the cook - why she didn't tell us when we ordered that she didn't have mashed potatoes or gravy is beyond me. And, as a former restaurant cook, I'm also puzzled as to why she didn't just put on some potatoes to boil - in 35 minutes she could've made mashed potatoes and gravy -- we tell the new waitress that yes, fries will be fine and another 20 minutes later we get our food.

Nearly an hour of waiting for truly mediocre food. We live in Molalla and were excited to find a new restaurant to go to in Silverton - but we won't be back to this one.

I have always loved the idea of the neighborhood bar. Years ago they were everywhere. Save-the-world do-gooders and greedy lawyers have pretty much wiped them out with zoning laws and law suits. They were supported, for the most part, by folks who lived nearby, their neighbors and friends. It was a simpler, and in many ways, better world then.

I drove from Salem to Silverton specifically to try this place. Inside it's like a lot of places you've seen. The walls are dark forest green, there's a bar, some tables and a couple of pool tables. It was clean.

My server was a nice young lady who, when asked, checked with one of the owners, and told me the sandwich meat was processed. I passed on any of that and ordered a Swiss Cheeseburger and a side Salad. The patty was a large previously frozen and pre-formed of medium quality meat. The bun was good as were the fresh Lettuce, Tomato and sliced raw Onion. The Salad seemed to be fresh made of Romaine Hearts, Tomato wedges and grated Cheddar Cheese. A fresh ground patty would have been better, but is seldom found in a place that's first and foremost an evening watering hole. A question which always nags me, when I'm the only patron in a place at 12:30 PM, is whether I'm the only one here because the Burger is less than stellar, or is the Burger less than stellar because I'm the only one here. I don't want to give you the impression that it was bad. It wasn't, it just wasn't great.

I found it interesting that my napkin was marked "Massey Ferguson American Bi-Centennial 1776-1976". Thinking there must be a story behind this, I asked. The owner said a friend had some napkins in storage and had given them to her. It's not every day you can eat lunch with a 35 year old paper napkin.

A neighborhood bar can only be what it is. Don't expect it to be what it's not, and you won't be disappointed. The ones that remain are a fading part of Americana for which many of us have fond memories. These are nice folks holding up a dying tradition. I wish them success.
