BEWARE tourists!!! This place is for regulars only!! As in people who live in Petoskey or close by!
It's so unfortunate as this place as the ability to be completely awesome!! Â MP and BIL had been twice before in the week before taking me one night. Â Translation 3x in ONE WEEK!!
We arrived a little after 11pm and walked right up to the bar.  The bartender ignored us.  I tried to flag him down, again we were ignored.  When he finally came over he said we could grab a table and the waitress would be by shortly.  Great, we don't want a waitress.  We want to hang out at the bar.  So we asked if we could order drinks and he (yet again) told us to sit at a table and wait for a waitress.  We asked  (yet again) if we could just order drinks from him, as we didn't want to sit.  A woman sitting at the bar perks up and says "HE SAID SIT AT A TABLE AND A WAITRESS WILL SEE YOU!" Oh.  Nuh-huh girlfriend.  So I turned to her and said "We HEARD him the first time." Then MP said "I guess we're not welcome here".  The woman looked over with just a blank face, tried to recover herself.  I guess she didn't think we would talk back!?!  Then (if you can believe it) MP tried again to order a drink and the bartender told us that there were people sitting in the bar seats we were currently standing BEHIND!  Then walked away to clean dishes.  Ugh.  Enough.  Clearly they didn't want our business.  You'd think after seeing MP and BIL that they would have recognized that we were returning customers! Nope.
So, here we are. Â In this awesome bar. Â Vintage popcorn machine in the back and shelled peanuts to be eaten! Â Ridiculously amazing decor, TV's everywhere....just standing in the back watching the rest of the NBA Finals Game 7. Â We decided to stay - Â out of principal, but we didn't order a drink.
MP and BIL said it was such a shame, as they had a great time the other two times they were there. Â But I wasn't with them then, so my review is on my experience.
I did eat some popcorn and the actual waitress was very nice, she even came over to us standing at the bar and asked if she could get us some drinks. Â For that, this gets 2 stars instead of one. Â When she saw our stank faces, she went over the bartender and yelled at him. Â Guess what he did...nothing.
We ended up going next door to Leo's....spent the next two hours there and almost $75! Â
Your loss Mitchell. Â See you never.
Great beer on tap, good food, friendly service, cool atmosphere. Â Perfect! Â My husband and I split a burger and the walleye dinner. Â The burger had such great flavor and was cooked to a perfect medium. Â The walleye was delicious but my husband complained that it wasn't cleaned properly. Â He kept picking scales off as he ate. Â I didn't notice, but I was a few beers in at that point. Â My favorite was the onion rings. Â They were perfectly crunchy but not overdone where the onion is mushy. Â I highly recommend them.
Review Source:Being city dwellers, we neglected to realize everything in Petoskey closed at 9 pm, and when we ventured out for dinner, the only place open was Mitchell Street. However, this didn't turn out to be a bad thing.
The restaurant has a casual pub atmosphere complete with jukebox and peanut shells strewn on the floor. All sorts of vintage paraphernalia adorned the walls, which we found fun to look at (giant moose head above the bar anyone?). Our server was pleasant and the food was good. There was a wide variety of beers available as well.
Fun experience, good food and bring coins to pay for the parking meters.
I came here on the recommendation of a friend who knows her way around Petoskey. Initially I was a little put off by how DARK this bar is. I was walking with a cane following surgery, and found myself a little scared that I might not see something. I like a cozy dark bar as much as anyone, but this was over the top! Â
I ordered the olive burger on the recommendation of another reviewer. First you should know that I eat 3-4 burgers a year max. They aren't high on my hit list. Second, I am not terribly fond of olives unless they are good. This selection was risky at best for me. BOY, DID IT PAY OFF! the burger was juicy, the olive mixture with some mayo etc. was heavenly, the bun was good quality, yum! I can't stop thinking of it, and may have to take my husband there soon!
The service was friendly and kind. I have no complaints at all, but nothing special. This was just a nice unpretentious place where you can go to heaven with a burger! Â I give them four of five stars only because the darkness of the place was a bit intimidating for a person dealing with getting around.
My husband and I ate dinner here after a full day of biking on the Little Traverse Wheelway followed by mini-golf. I like the cozy pub feel, with old-fashioned photos on the walls, dark wood booths, and a super-friendly staff.
We were surprised at the number of vegetarian options for a pub in a small northern Michigan town. In addition to the veggie burger, they also have a veggie sandwich, grilled cheese, vegetarian nachos and a number of other vegetarian appetizers big enough to serve as a light dinner.
I had the Whoppin' Walleye, and the amount of food you get for the price is ridiculous. I suggested my husband get his veggie burger sans sides so he could help me finish off my meal, which included a lightly-breaded but huge piece of walleye (delicious), fries, garlic bread and cole slaw.
They also have a good selection of Michigan beers to go with your food; Hubby had an Oberon and I had a Soft Parade from Short's Brewing.
Check out my profile and notice I'm fairly stingy with the 5-star reviews. I cannot say one bad thing about this place - friendly and quick service, good food, good beer selection, moderate prices. It was a great way to wrap up our last full day vacationing in Petoskey.
We stopped in here late on a Monday night after being told they served food late. The place was packed with people clearly enjoying themselves but in a way that was completely inviting and not obnoxious. There was great music coming from the juke box giving the place a laid back feel. Expecting the typical bar fare, I was pleased when I got a huge and completely delicious tossed salad to start. The ranch dressing was clearly house made and incredibly rich and tasty. I also got the fried mushroom appetizer and was super surprised to have hand breaded mushrooms rather than the typical frozen premade kind you generally get at bars. Paired with that awesome ranch dressing they were delicious. He got the veggie burger with onion rings which was also very satisfying. The server was extremely attentive and welcoming. This would definitely be a place to visit again for both food and a good beer selection.
Review Source:Stopped in here on a trip from Munising to Detroit. The food was really great. The atmosphere was perfect for what me and my girlfriend were looking for: unpretentious bar, good food, good beer, good service. Seemed like a bit of a diamond in the rough up in Petoskey since the other dinner places we looked into all seemed a bit to self-important. This was well worth the stop. I would recommend it to anyone, and I will definitely go there again if I find myself back in Petoskey.
Review Source:Have always enjoyed going here. Â Went last week for the first time in a couple years (but haven't been in Petoskey in a couple years either). Â Still loving the cheese curds and potato skin appetizers. Â Maybe it's because this is the first place I had potato skins when I was in high school, but it has remained the gold standard for perfectly crispy, cheesy, bacony skins. Â Burgers are great too. Â Love the pub atmosphere - dark with quirky wall art. Â If you go - get the basics and you can't go wrong.
Review Source:i have to say, this place was really good. Â it's nice and dark, and you can eat peanuts and throw the shells on the floor. Â the draft beer selection was yummy--you can never go wrong with short's or bell's. Â
i had the chicken chow mein salad and my boyfriend had the veggie sandwich and onion rings. Â all were delicious! Â
now mind you this isn't fine dining. Â but it's damn good. Â and our server was great!
This is a fun place to be. The food is your traditional pub food style. I recomend the fried onon rings and mushrooms and on a healthier side the oriental salad is super fantastic! All the staff are great but my favorite is Dianna. Absolutly have to stop in either with friends or to make some new ones!
Review Source:Decent food - it is not overwhelmingly delicious, but I won't turn down an invitation to meet a friend there.
Also, it is loud, rather smoke filled, and the lighting is poor. Rather boring, you can get that anywhere. There are much better restaurants in Petoskey.
Of course, if you just wanna play it safe, this is the place you want to be, I guess.
