Its almost Chipotles....same concept. Â I had carnitas tacos and can say the pork was not true to tradition. Â I'd rather they call them "Pork" tacos so to not mislead as true carnitas are fried. Â I think the meat was microwaved too, maybe not but tasted like it.
High applause for the level of freshness and attempts to provide some level of healthy food choices in Elkhart. Â Will most definitely try again on the next visit for a second shot.
What can I say, this place is amazing!!! Everything I have had there is out of this world. They have the best guacamole i have ever had. Everything is made to order, so it is all very fresh. They now have beer and wine, and also have the best sangria i have ever had! I just can not say enough about this restaurant. I usually do not write reviews, but felt Mod Mex  deserved one!!
Like one reviewer said earlier, do not judge the place from the outside. The inside is very nice and they will be working on the outside. Everyone at Mod Mex is so friendly, you need to go and try for yourself!! You will not be disappointed!!
Wow! Mod Mex is a really good restaurant. Â We tried it for the first time tonight. Â They were surprisingly not very busy. Â As good as this place is, they should be jam-packed. Â I have eaten at a lot of Mexican restaurants all over this country; Â this one is my new favorite. Â I must say, I love their take on Mexican - it's Mexican with a modern twist... hence the name. Â If you've had Mexican food, you'll like their creations. Â If you have not, don't be intimidated. Â This is not like some of the Mexican restaurants you'll find in rougher areas, like out on Western Ave. in South Bend. Â It is a nice, clean, and friendly place. Â
To the food, we started off with a Guacamole Sampler, with 'fresh as fresh can be' tortilla chips. Â The sampler comes with your choice of three guacs. Â We chose crab meat, mango infused, and goat cheese. Â It was so good and fresh - Â a true delight for the senses. Â Now for 3 people, the appetizer was a lot of food. Â You could easily share this with a larger group of 5 or more people. Â Then we had some super hot fire shrimp - Camarones a la Diabala. Â (I ordered it hot, you can also get mild or medium.) It was good and hot! Â We also, had a chorizo and cheese dish with tortillas. It was actually an appetizer, but my wife ordered it as her meal. Â Our third dining partner had the pork mole. Â Wow, it was an excellent mole and full of flavor. Â
Give this place a try for lunch or dinner Elkhart. Â The food is good and of good value. Â It is owned by two very enterprising young men who definitely have a creative talent for excellent interpretations of Mexican food. Â Also, they have super friendly wait staff. Â This is the new hip and cool place to be. Â I hope lots of people try this jewel of a place and realize what a neat restaurant this is in Elkahrt. Â We drove from South Bend and we will definitely be back!
P.S. this is not on Toledo out by Memorial High School, rather it is on Teledo, East of Goshen Ave., right across from Sautter's Floral and Greenhouse. Â Why are you still reading this review? Â Go out there and try it!
Mod Mex is our new favorite Mexican restaurant in Elkhart. The flavors were very intentional and the modern Mexican cuisine is new and refreshing. The ingredients tasted as fresh as they come, and ambiance was nicer than most other Mexican restaurants in Elkhart. Don't judge it from the outside, this place deserves a chance from everyone who enjoys Mexican food!
I had the steak burrito with lime & cilantro rice, black beans, and a honey chipotle sauce... So good I went back there for dinner... The same day!
Give it a try... The staff is nice and friendly as well and prices are worth the fresh ingredients and for casual nicer dining. Not your average Mexican restaurant!
