So the new Molly's is much cleaner since it's pilgrimage down Lincoln Highway. Â However, the establishment has gotten much more out of hand. Â They are so big that there is way to enjoy yourself there. Â
I was waiting in line for the bathroom when another female came in and started vomiting everywhere. Â I understand this is a college bar but I can not honestly accept this behavior. Â She did not even make it to a toilet stall. Â Upon alerting the bouncer to this, he did nothing. Â They allowed this disgusting practice to occur. Â
Now they allow smoking outside. Â I am pretty sure it is supposed to be at least 15 feet from the door. Â Does Molly care? Â No. Â Smoke just billows in. Â My lungs just LOOOVED it. Â
The wonderful Molly's bus? Â Attitude and slow service. Â You work for tips. Â So act like you care. Â I understand you drive drunk people around but seriously, you can be cordial. Â This place knows they are going to get business so they could care less about how they actually treat people. Â
The music was WAY too loud. Â You can barely talk. Â The music is not always a great dance option. Â They just do not try hard enough. Â
My favorite? Â Random theme nights like Irish night in the middle of September...a gross green hat passed around all of the patrons. Â I strongly dislike this place. Â Please close it and put the rest of DeKalb out of their misery.
Not impressed. Â I ordered a Fat Tire from a male bartender. Â He happily got it for me. Â When I went to order another, the female bartender told me they didn't sell it. Â I said yes you do, I just ordered one. Â She exhaled loudly, then proceeded to stomp all over the bar, and slam my drink down on the bar. Â If she feels inconvenienced by getting people their drinks, then maybe she shouldn't be a bar tender.
Music was way too loud, and the punching machine in the back that hands out thongs if you beat the high score is offensive and repulsive.
I did, however, appreciate the drunk bus service that was offered].
I have a love/hate relationship with this bar. It's incredibly popular in Dekalb, but it can be a dive and there is often quite a few creeps roaming around. Service can be terrible so I try to avoid starting a tab on my card if humanly possible. It normally takes forever to close out. However, the outside patio is nice, and it is a fun vibe inside.
Review Source:The "staff" here can't tell the difference between vodka and rum. I don't know why they don't hire someone with actual bar-tending experience or someone older than 19 who has never waited a table in their life. When I went this last time I had to tell my waitress what the specials were, she didn't know what beers were on draft or when I ordered a common drink, what it was. I then got another girls credit card back to sign out that was at our table (I never opened a tab).
I mean, I know it's a college bar, but hell- the other college bars that are DeKalb seem to be able to keep their stuff together more than this joke of a place. I wonder if it has been since the place was sold to the new-er owners? It just isn't any good anymore.
Molly's is a college bar, so although our expectations weren't high to begin with, our group of 7 all left totally appalled at the service we had here. Â To begin with, our waitress was dumb as a brick. Â She apparently worked there for four years but wasn't able to name the beer they served, so we finally walked up to the bar to look for ourselves. Â The idiot bartenders couldn't work the TVs, and we were left to watch the first quarter of the Bears vs Packers game with no sound. Â We kept asking them to adjust this, and instead the a-holes changed all the channels in the bar to a different game. Â We were finally smart enough to leave and give our business to a different bar down the street.
Review Source:A follow-up to my previous review....10 years after my freshman year at  NIU I finally Rode the Rail. It's 10 draft beers on tap that upon completion (via a punch card verified by your bartender) you get a t-shirt.  Let's say, from what I remember this was a great success!  Surprisingly enough, the shirt was white and STILL IS! (That's kinda' a big deal for me!)
Review Source:Well.. out of all the college bars in DeKalb, I avoided Molly's as much as possible.
Why you may ask?
First of all, how can you enjoy yourself when the place wreaks of puke the minute you walk in? Gross! Â Second, the bartenders and servers are generally inexperienced and leave you standing with money in your hand for a while before the acknowledge your presence. Â
If you get to Molly's on a night that's not so busy, it can be tolerated.. or if you're lucky to get a table on the patio during the nice and warm season.. otherwise, the majority of the school year, you're stuck inside the puke infested building.
I have had my fair share of times where I was able to drink enough to enjoy myself and did have fun competing in a texas hold em tournament, so I can't say it's all bad at Mollys.
I suggest hitting up Fatty's down the street with a nice beer garden or Otto's for some live music.. hell, even Stanley's for some good beers and pizza.
Probably the best bar to go in DeKalb. Â Bartenders are very personable, there are usually good deals and the drunk bus service is reliable unless it is a special occasion where it is packed (last thursday of school). Â
Kareoke nights is tuesday nights. Â Good music any other night. Â Good location. Â They usually show UFC fights with only $5 cover.
No cover most nights.
