This is one of the only outdoor-friendly hangouts in Norman and for good reason! The patio is large with an ideallic ambiance for evening dining, drinking, or dating. Smokers are usually peppered across the patio, but the smoke doesn't linger too bad and one can typically find a table out of the carcinogenic path.
You just have to get a Swirl (be careful of the imminent brain freeze that comes with it!) and an appetizer like the queso dip! But don't count on having a mind-blowing meal, nor noteworthy service. You come for the ambiance, good company, and reasonable drinks... nothing else :)
Pretty good food, reasonable drink prices - you can get a Lionshead beer for only $2. Â They don't have beer on tap for some reason though. Â I really enjoy watching all the hot college girls walking around there getting drunk as heck. Â Sometimes I flirt with them and give them a little wink if their dress is short enough. Â The service is usually fast even if it's busy there. Â The train comes right by this place about every 45 minutes, so ppl talk even louder, but it's not really a big deal. Â It is worth it for the girl watching experience.
Review Source:The second star is for the strong drinks and cool patio. If you just want to get blitzed, this is a fantastic place to go (good queso too, assuming you have them actually heat it up twice).
The burgers and fries are mediocre, everything else is just plain shit. If you're drunk it might be good, just make sure you drink for an hour or two before ordering food (beyond the queso).
I actually love the staff, too bad about the food. So for a "bar" it's 4-5 stars, for a restaurant it's a 0.
Been here a few times and today was my first time actually eating than drinking. Must say I didn't care for my nachos with black beans & sour cream, but my waitress was a sweetheart & let me choose a different item plus took the nachos off. This is what customer service is about. They offer speedy service & nice selection of meals.
Review Source:I love this place! It is probably my favorite place to go to in Norman because it has a fun atmosphere and affordable (and tasty) drinks and food! Having a few frozen drinks on their patio during warm summer days is the best! The service has also always been really good. I've gone there uncountable times and I haven't had a bad experience yet.
I used to HATE queso until my friend made me try The Mont's Queso. It's really good and so is their salsa. It's super tasty and refreshing.
So if you haven't been to The Mont yet, try it out soon! Next time you go try the Chili Con Queso, the Green Chile Pot Roast Burrito with a "Lava Lamp" (frozen margarita with a Corona)!!!
The Mont has the best patio in Norman.
This is a great summer spot and everyone loves their frozen drinks (specifically The Swirl). Â Their food is good and it is better than I expected. Their green chile roast beef burrito is really good, but it took someone else convincing me to order a Mexican dish from their menu. The Green Chile Sauce is amazing.
Overall this is one of the best summer spots in Norman because of their patio and drink selection, but do not go here if you are going here looking for spectacular food.
I went with a group of friends in the colder months so there was no outdoor seating at the time. The inside is a bit small and you kind of feel like your on top of the next table. That being said our waitress was very nice and timely. I ordered the fried pickles as an app and they were sooo good. I ordered the BBQ burger as my meal and it was just okay, nothing fabulous, but I would eat it again. The drinks were priced really well and the overall bill I thought was on the cheaper side.
Review Source:Came in off a recommendation from a friend as I was in town from Dallas. Had the Mont burger (basic bacon cheeseburger), chips and salsa and opted for a side of mac n cheese instead of fries per the waitress' recommendation. I'll be damned if that wasn't some of the best mac n cheese I've ever had! I'll be back next time I'm in town.
Review Source:I'd agree that the food here isn't as bad as some people are saying. For gods sake people, this isn't some 5 star fine dining establishment. I lived in Norman for several years, and frequented this location quite often.
The "Swirls" are the MVP here for sure, but I've had the wings, burgers, chicken nachos, and they were all fairly decent. It's definitely worth going and trying a swirl at the very least. Boomer!
The MONT'S food sucks. It's cheap and tasteless. Get drunk of the swirls and the food might taste a little better. The waitresses are all bitchy and rude and if you ask them for a straw or something they will snap back at you and take their time to bring you one. Don't try to use the restroom here because its seriously the smallest one I have ever seen. Also my friend opened up her menu and there was a dead cochroach inside of it!
Review Source:The Mont.
I grew up and around Norman. I've always heard how much people loved this place and I've been there quite a few times myself.
The problems I've noticed with this place on numerous occasions -
The service is horrible. They are not quick to serve or ask what you'd like. They are somewhat friendly, but most of the people working here are college kids that don't seem to really care about their job.
The food quality/taste is very mediocre. I've had burgers, sandwiches, fries, chicken fried steak, nachos, etc. Nothing has been great. It's basically the typical bar food you get around most places in Oklahoma.
Everyone comes here for the patio and their famous Swirls. The swirls are good, I will definitely give them that.
So if you're looking for a nice patio sitting with your friends with some delightful margarita swirls and some cheap "so-so" food, go here.
Maybe choosing to go to this place on a game day was my first mistake?
The Mont, well if you're looking for mediocre food, obnoxious college kids, loud dining, and elbow to elbow eating space, this is the place for you.
I was not impressed, it's a college hangout, that's it. Nothing more. If I go back, it'll be to try the nachos that EVERYONE seemed to order, they were on almost every table.
Other then that, my chic hen sandwich was nothing special, clearly a once frozen 50%rib meat I'm guessing chicken breast. The hubs wasn't too keen on his pulled pork sammy either.
I'm telling you, the food is better than people are saying. Â Don't get me wrong - it's not GREAT food. Â But I thought the green chile burrito and the sour cream chicken enchiladas were both WELL above-average for bar food. Â The queso is quite good, and the fried stuff is, well, fried stuff. Â Don't expect gourmet, but don't be afraid to order the food.
USED TO get bad service from time to time, but the last 4 or 5 times it's always been at least good.
We had horrible service. We waited an hour for our food and had to ask for it  to go because we had to get back to training. Our waitress was rude and took no responsibility for our wait. However the manager was kind and gave us the food for free due to the long wait. Might try again.
Review Source:Lives up to its reputation. The drinks are good, the swirl is special, and the patio is unbelievable. The food's good for bar food, and though it may not be worth waiting during prime dinner rush, early- or late-evening it's easy to get in and enjoy a nice night. The only downside to the Mont is the waitstaff, which tend to be undermotivated college students; but if you can put aside some subpar service, it's a great place to grab a drink with friends.
Review Source:Pulled in by the Swirl. Â Everyone always gets a swirl. Â It's a thing.
But then you get hungry and you look over the menu. Â Part of me wants to ask if they just went to Sam's Club and put everything they could buy on the menu, but that wouldn't be fair. Â This is one of those rare places where the freshness of the ingredients and the seasoning really does make a difference in the quality of the food. Â I've had the Cuban Sandwich and the Chicken Grande. Â Both were fairling amazing compared with other bar food menus and even with some finer dining menus. Â
Since returning to Dallas I've actually been hungry for the Chicken Grande, which was a huge fresh char grilled chicken burrito. Â
Also, this is a great place to watch a game. Â The crowd was fairly diverse. Â Am I getting older or are college girls just getting younger and younger. Â They looked about 12 years old to me.
My favorite place to grab a drink in Norman. I almost always stop at The Mont when I am in Norman.
I always get a swirl and some chips and queso. Both of these are what the Mont is known for. The queso is top notch. The swirls are strong and might be the cheapest and tastiest buzz in Norman. I love this place and would recommend it to any who wants a place to grab a drink and an appetizer. The bad part is I can't really say much for the rest of the menu. I have had a few things other than what I have previously wrote about. Nothing really sticks out as great nor was anything really that bad.
This place is one of the best bars in Norman and I would recommend that everyone should stop here once and grab a legendary SWIRL!!!
I literally lived at The Mont when I was in school. I'm not exactly sure how I always made it home but I never had any problems getting there!!
I'm sure every review has mentioned the swirl, which is definitely the cheapest buzz in Norman. More than two always made me sick to my stomach. Which is why you need to try the brandy ice. Not the best brandy ice in the world but they do a decent job and very few bars will make it.
Almost all of the food is pretty meh, even for a bar, but I was always a fan of the reuben and the cheese fries. (you can order a 1/2 order of the cheese fries if you want to avoid being sick).
I suggest getting to know the waitstaff and hosts if you go frequently. I knew almost all of them by name and I rarely waited for a table even when there was a long wait, got free drinks, free shots, free food and excellent service.
Cheers!
BTW, if you get bored you can play The Mont Bingo
Drink if...
someone honks, someone yells, a train goes by, an emergency vehicle goes by, there is a wreck, and I'm sure there are more but it has been too long.
This place is the heart of Norman, OK. It's one of those places that you have to try if you're in town, and one that you have a connection to you if you're from town. It's on the corner of Lindsay and Classen which is pretty close to Campus Corner and pretty close to OU. To really experience it's charm, you absolutely must go during the summertime. The outdoor seating is larger than the indoor seating (excluding the bar.) There are vines and plants growing from every direction which come together and form a canopy over the entire length of the patio. Sitting outside will just automatically make you happy.
Okay here are some more details:
- Go there for a 21st celebration. They have a huge list of specialty shots (not unlike O'Connell's or Seven47 on Campus Corner.)
- Go there for a weekend night dinner. They have the most amazing swirls that will knock you off your feet.
- Go there for a pre-game gathering. Almost every Sooner and their extended family are there before the game. You have to get there early or it's a no-go.
- Go there for a yummy lunch. The queso is quite addicting and the chicken ceasar salad is full of thick dressing and sweet chicken. (I've also heard really good things about their burritos.)
I think the Mont was started by some local college frat guys. You can tell that the restaurant caters to the college crowd. The service is awful but it almost doesn't matter. Anyone who visits the Mont isn't there for a quick in-and-out meal. You go for atmosphere and you stay because it makes you comfortable and lazy.
Four stars for the many many good times I have had here... but I generally go for the main drawcard... the outdoor patio. Great place to be in the summer when its sunny with a bit of breeze and they have the misters going. There's usually some good beer specials too... and honestly after you've tried a swirl beer really is the way to go.
The food is OK and usually hits the spot after you're a few (or many) beers in but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. The place winds down a lot in the winter and you won't really see me there when it's cold... I find the inside seating kind of dark and dingy.
Ehhh.... The food here is mediocre at best. C'mon people. I know that the atmosphere is great and all and its a historic landmark in Norman and that everybody loves those tasty knock-you-on-your-ass swirls, but the food here is not good. Everything is fried stuff with low grade cheese. That said, It is a great place to get hammered with some friends on the patio on a nice day and enjoy some great drinks. They should really stick to the liquid menu and just forget the food altogether.
Review Source:If you are visiting Norman, OK this is an institution. Â There are things you should expect to do here.
1.) Have  a Swirl...yes they are very sweet but have at least one.  Some people like to drink one for every letter in their name...be cautious if doing so.
2.) Have some queso with or without sausage or the chicken nachos (awesome finely chopped jalapenos) DO NOT GET guac here...you will only be disappointed.
3.) If you want a meal the club sandwich, a burger, or the enchilades are tasty. Â
4.) DO NOT EXPECT GOOD SERVICE...IT IS PART OF THE CHARM FOR THEM TO TREAT YOU POORLY.
5.) Expect to hear a train or a fraternity boy yelling out a window while you are on the patio....sometimes both.
It is a college town and the prices are cheap!
If you go to The Mont you HAVE to get a swirl, their signature drink. They also have one of the best patios around. Food-wise I would definitely go with the burrito or something else off of the "Mexican" side of the menu; although, the "American" food is good too.
Also, BEWARE OF THE PRE-GRAT.
The food really isn't horrible, and the overdressed, too-cool-for-school Greeks aren't ugly. Â It's the too-cool-for-school staff, crowding, and and utter lack of anything worth fighting the nasty parking lot for that make The Mont awful. Â Ever go to a place that was really snooty, but you couldn't figure out why? Â The staff were overly made-up young women who didn't know what was in any of the 76 shots, let alone the spinach salad, and the birthday t-shirts are the most popular entree? Â The Mont is the varsity wrestler whose Members Only jacket that place secretly wants to grab in the locker room.
High school students traditionally drive by and yell to those eating on the Patio "the Mont serves ass!" Â This describes the patrons at least as well as the food.
I've been going to the Mont for years, and I always have a good time! Their patio is really nice (lots of plants & even a little pond with waterfall!) and has a great mister system for during the hot summer months. Their food is good, but if you're looking for a 4-star gourmet meal, you'd be in the wrong location by going to the Mont. I recommend their queso for SURE, as it's delicious. I've never had a bad meal from the Mont, though. The Swirl (frozen marg & frozen sangria swirled together) is a signature drink for them, and one you should try at least once.
Review Source:Okay this is weird. Â If the Mont didn't serve food, it would be 5 stars. Â The food actually takes stars away. Â You're like, "how can food be less than one star?" Â It actually takes stars away. Â If you have eaten at the Mont, you know what I'm talking about. Â And if you've cooked at the Mont, you know I'm being nice.
But why would you eat there? Â This is the best bar in Oklahoma, with the best patio in the world. Â The signature "Swirls" are refreshing and the tropical rainforest mist is intoxicating. . . or is it the other way around? Â Oh yeah, its definitely the other way around! Â The Swirl is a frozen drink so strong I think you could set it on fire. Â If that is not your style, there are 151 other ways to get your drink on, which I believe is still quasi-legal in OK.
The service is top notch. Â And by top notch I mean typically really sexy women, who work hard, may or may not have a good attitude, and are adept at handling the fact that a large number of men will most likely profess their love for them and/or want to play a round of mental or physical grab-ass on a nightly basis.
I recommend nachos if you find yourself so hungry (or. . . ahem. . . drunk) that you have to eat. Â I also guess I should clarify. . . the food is not DANGEROUS. . . the kitchen was ALWAYS CLEAN. . . its just that the food is. . .so not good. Â If I want to eat anything I'll eat my ice.
But why would you come for the food?
Strolled into the Mont with Joel T on a Monday night  at around 10pm just for kicks.  I was looking for something to eat and some whiskey, Joel T was looking for a sexual encounter and some whiskey.
We ended up order Makers on the rocks (I sissied out on the second and got a makers and water) and they were good drinks for the $5.50 cost. Â Kudos barrista.
I ordered the Theta Burger that had some ingredients on it that I've never had in that combo: Â BBQ sauce (of course got a side of it for my fries and it was warmed it and damn good), shredded Chedder, red onion, and mayo. Â Was 1/3 pound and ran me $5.99 pluss $1.99 for the fries. Â I felt it well worth it.
Crowd was pretty diverse mixed throughout the bar and outside. Â I loved the decor: Â A lot of wood and intricate moldings around the arch-ways. Â Was dimly lit (just the way I like it) and had some cool Sooner stuff scattered around it. Â Looked to have some really cool/large booths in the back that reminded me of the inside of the bottle in the "I Dream of Jeannie" tv show.
I would recommend the place for the decor, the food, and the variety of crowd. Â Drink selection was ok, service was ok.
There are not a lot of places like THE MONT.
It's at a crossroads in Norman, Oklahoma where you'll find some of the most beautiful women the world has to offer, and some of the nicest people. Â The drinks far surpass the drinks of any other Oklahoma spot, and the ambiance of The Mont is unmatched in it's region. Â The Mont was a place that embraced me and honestly got me through some tough college moments. Â I love The Mont, and every time I go back to Oklahoma, I give it a visit, and it still holds true to what it always was, the perfect campus bar.
Not being from Norman, nor anywhere in Oklahoma, I happened to be in town, and for reasons not discussed here, I really needed a drink. Â If you can give The Month credit for anything, it's that they can serve a decent margarita without blinking. Â They lack a good swirl though, which is sangria and frozen margarita--sangria should never be frozen, but I digress.
The bar area is separated from main restaurant to keep out the under-aged college students. Â It has two strong smoke filters running for my smoking buddies ease of guilt and college games playing on all the screens.
This place was Norman's saving grace from being just another small town in the middle of nowhere. Â Now I'm eager to check out more of the college locale.
