I stopped by here this past Thursday evening for dinner with my fiancé.  We had never heard of the Monterey Pub before I won a gift certificate to it a few weeks ago. We were surprised at its location on the Mexican War Streets as it seemed to be surrounded by residential places.  Even so it looked nice.  Whenever we went inside, the first thing that it reminded me of was an English or Irish pub with the large amounts of wood and wooden booths.  They also seemed to have a nice selection of beers with guinness and big hop on draft and chimay in bottles.
My fiancé and I decided to split the fried green beans as an appetizer.  The green beans came out in a short amount of time with a dynamite sauce which was a tasty hot sauce.  They were still hot temperature wise whenever they came out and had a tasty breading much like that which is on mozzarella sticks.  I couldn't really taste the green beans but saw that they were there and did not really mind since the breading and dynamite sauce provided some great flavors.  For my entree I ordered the Wil Smith's Stoner Pie which was mashed potatoes, corn, gravy and friend chicken.  It was good as you would expect and I was very full by the time dinner had completed.
The bottom line for me is that I will definitely be heading back here in the future. Â I am surprised that I had never heard of Monterey Pub before the gift card but am glad that I received it. Â The inside is quaint and the food good although it probably won't be the healthiest meal you'll ever eat.
Best neighborhood pub in the city! Â The bartender is attentive and the waitress is awesome. Â Good beer selection, but then I'm a beer snob, I'd rather drink water than Coors light etc. Â
The food is good too., Â I'm usually there on Fridays after work, there has been no noise issue at all. Â I wouldn't want to go anywhere else to unwind on a Friday afternoon.
