We went for open jam night last night. Being an experienced musician, I am in a rock band myself. First of all I waited over an hour to be called up to play, then they didn't like the way I started the song & told me someone else will be playing instead! They said I'll play the next song, but the current musician just kept going. WTH!! I am a professional who enjoys playing in open jams. Gypsy Rain, the host band just calls upon people they know and are friends with. They continued rotating their musician friends and to hell with everyone else. This is NOT the first time my girlfriend & friends have been there. But with this kind of treatment we will not be back!! It's a fricken open jam!! It should be an opportunity for any musician to come out & show their talents, not be made to feel like it's a damn concert or competition where one is expected to perform in a certain manner because it's a paid gig!!!! This poor kid who played earlier in the night who was performing his original stuff gave it all he had. I think it's great he had the guts to try, not many people can do that. By the third song, which is typically what people play per set, Gypsy Rain couldn't get their SHIT together with the sound!! It was almost as if he screwed up the soundboard on purpose to embarrasse the poor guy until finally after the 'THIRD' interruption &feedback the kid just quit. You want people to frequent your establishment & bring in new people, because it definitely wasn't very busy last night, get it together with your host bands. There are way to many places we can go, we don't need to come to Monty's. Whiskey River in New Port Richey has excellent food, great venue, and they really welcome everyone with open arms, just to name one.
Here on St. Patrick's Day. Nice comfy Irish Pub with SOFAS!!!! I felt like I was at home! Mostly everyone was drinking as it was St. Patrick's day and this is an Irish Bar. I didn't see anyone eating a Corned Beef dinner so my heart skipped a beat! But then I found out they did have Corned Beef dinner and I had a plateful for $6.00 and it was of course, Delicious!!! I missed the Miller Girls and the Bagpipers I heard they had most of the day!!! Timing is everything!! There was a big crowd and they had a live band that was very good!!! They also had a DJ. I ended up staying almost the whole night. I met the owners. They were very nice. I met Rory and his sister and niece who are bartenders here, so it is like a real family business. I heard it was an older crowd during the day and at night there were some older folks like me, but a lot of younger folks and they were great to drink with!!! I will be back here soon!!!!! Happy St. Patrick's Day and Erin go Braugh!!!
